Q:Is it illegal to talk about prohibited topics

competitor asks for information or offers to

give me information about a prohibited topic?

A: Yes. Employees are prohibited from

    communicating about certain competitively

sensitive topics. This list of prohibited topics

    includes the following:

prices charged for goods or services,

    including physician services

costs of goods, supplies, equipment, or services, including

    physician services

employee salaries, wages, or benets, compensation

policies, stafng policies or terms of collective bargaining

    agreements, employment contracts or severance

    agreements

    terms of managed care contracts

terms of equipment, supply or service contracts

allocation among competitors of customers, services or

    territories

exclusion of any existing or potential competitor or

    supplier from the market

joint bidding or joint venture arrangements.

Generally, it is illegal to reach agreement or conspire witha competitor about prohibited topics. HCAs policies on

communications with competitors are purposely stricter than

the law requires, but sometimes just exchanging information

can expose the individual to civil or criminal liability.

If a competitor asks for information or offers to give you

information, refuse to provide or receive the information and

tell the competitor it is against company policy for you to do

so. For more information, see Corporate Policy, LL.GEN.003.

    ICU Clinical Manager

Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center recently announced the addition of Jarrod Wester as its new EMS

Coordinator. He will serve as our facilities primary point of contact, overseeing EMS relationships with

local and regional EMS agencies. He is also a key addition to Gulf Coast Regional Medical Centers

Emergency department, disaster response team and critical care committees, including STEMI, stroke and

    cardiovascular.

Jarrod has been working in the healthcare eld since graduating high school in 2001. During his senior

year of high school, Jarrod and a fellow classmate were the rst ever to complete a college level EMT-basic

course at Gulf Coast Community College, while dually-enrolled at Port St. Joe High School. Since then, his career has been centered on providing exceptional patient care, while advancing his licensure through

paramedic, critical care paramedic and most recently earning the challenging designation as a certied ight

    paramedic.

I want to be a part of a team that strives to continually be at the very forefront of innovation, and this is

why I have chosen to work with the men and women who make up Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center,

    said Wester.

When Jarrod is not teaching, training or providing critical patient care to the citizens of our area, he can be found spending quality time

with his wife Kory and three children, Maggie (6), Max (4) and Jase (2). Jarrod also enjoys running and is currently training for his rst

    10K race in early November.

    Jarrod Wester Named EMS Coordinator

As HCA employees, it is our top priority to take excellent care of our patients, but to also take care of each other. The HCA Hope

Fund was established in 2004 as hundreds of our colleagues were affected by the coastal hurricanes. Immediately following the storms,

HCA employees throughout the United States wanted to know how they could help. Contributions came in and were disbursed out

to HCA families that had been impacted. To these families, the contributions from their fellow employees represented much more than

nancial relief, they represented hope that life might soon return to normal.

Our colleagues are not just co-workers, they are our family and we have always rallied around one another when devastation strikes. So

what started as a very informal way to help one another, soon evolved to a formal non-prot organization, the HCA Hope Fund. Our

fund is supported by employees allowing us to do what we do best, take care of others.
