This making of will have information on the short musical animation Albert.
Which is about a drunk who left the pub and making his way home. While making
the journey he started to notice some strange events in his area.
I mainly show and explain the creation development of Albert and the other
objects that are involve with the animation.
The selected music that was chosen for the animated short is entitled The
Elephant by Camille Saint-Saens. When I heard this piece I instantly imagined a
Person who cannot keep his balance, and what represented this to me was a
heavily drunk man.
The location of the animation is set in Victorian London. I felt that setting my
animation in a Victorian era would match with the chosen music, which it did. To
help bring that to life I created some objects that carries a Victorian feel. From pub
objects: chairs, tables and doors, to other objects that will interact with Albert. The
main object that will get involve with Albert the most is the Lamp Post, whos mainpurpose is to playful character.
I felt an animation style that will fit well with the short would be rubber hose
animation, because of how surreal the animation is that it works fine when Alberts
world becomes surreal itself.

The main character Albert is
meant to resemble a person
with balancing issues when
ever he takes a step.
Thats when I thought of
making my character a
drunk because it carries the
right characteristics that I
was looking for.

In Alberts earlier designs I was aiming to have him looking more realistic
while also at the same time having some cartoony appearance.
I thought making him fat and small would give of the impression that he
has balancing issues.

I decided on doing an alternate Albert. One that was the exact opposite in appearance by making
him slimmer and taller. I wanted to see what kind of effects it will have with the music. The overall
design came out fine but it did not have the right clumsiness I was looking for.

When looking at previous designs
of Albert I felt the art style used for
designing him did not represent me.
I then did some more redesigns andcame out with a more simplified and
cute version of Albert with detailed
textures to show what he is
wearing.
I chose different shades of brown
colours for his clothes because to
me it gives off the Victorian feelwhich is where this animation is set.

The Lamp Post is a playful
surreal object. It interacts
with the main character by
playing with him, much to
Alberts displeasure.I gave the Lamp post some
human quality by making
its overall appearance
resembles a three fingered
hand with the bulbs being
the tips and the stems as
the finger joints.
