- 1. Makerere University is Uganda's largest and oldest
university. It was first established as a technical school in 1922.
Makerere University offers Bachelors, masters and PhD programmes.
Makerere University has approximately 40,000 students of whom 5-10%
are graduate students. Female students comprise about 45% of the
total student population. Approximately 12,000 students graduate
from Makerere University annually. There are approximately 3,500
International Students at Makerere University, from over 10
countries in and outside Africa. See Chart below;

are Academic Staff, 11% Administrative Staff and 29% Support

2009, the university adopted a system that saw to the merging of
former faculties into colleges. They include; College of
Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES); College of Business
and Management Sciences (COBAMS); College of Engineering, Design,
Art and Technology (CEDAT); College of Health Sciences; College of
Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS); and College of Veterinary
Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity (COVAB). The school of
Law which was a department of social Sciences broke off to become
an independent entity. All these colleges are shown in the video.

At Makerere University, it never passes without the hot
presidential elections that determine the students leaders
annually. A number of prominent politicians in Uganda have gone
through the political circles at the Ivory Tower. The race for
