Citat: I highly recommend Tinkercad for noobies to 3D design. I teach middle and high school students and this is perfect for them to get started designing right away without having to learn about a bunch of tools. It is intuitive, free, and offers much more than 3Dtin, which is good for primary students to get started with. The basic concept is that you grab different shapes, drag them onto the work area and manipulate the shapes in easy and intuitive ways. Om 3D-Software:

For at der kan printes en plastdel, skal emnet tegnes i et 3D-program.

Der findes flere, der er egnede, men fælles er, at de skal kunne eksportere til en ”.STL”-fil.

Denne fil skal så behandles af et andet program, så Makerbot-3D-printeren kan forstå det. Dette

program hentes på fabrikantens hjemmeside. Programmets opgave er, at gøre emnet egnet til 3D-

printning. Fx skal der jo laves understøttelse af emner, der har dele, der rager ud i luften. Maskinen

kan ikke printe oven på ingenting.

Tinkercad is a free, easy-to-learn online app anyone can use to create and

print 3D models.

Citat: I highly recommend Tinkercad for noobies to 3D design. I teach middle and

high school students and this is perfect for them to get started designing right away

without having to learn about a bunch of tools.

It is intuitive, free, and offers much more than 3Dtin, which is good for primary students

to get started with. The basic concept is that you grab different shapes, drag them onto

the work area and manipulate the shapes in easy and intuitive ways.

løsninger hvor konstruktionsdelen ikke fylder alverden vil jeg mene at

Efter der er tegnet en 3D del, skal delen

eksporteres til en ”.STL” fil. Denne type fil-

eksport er inkluderet i alle CAD-

designprogrammer.

Hvis delen er lavet i Autodesk Inventor, skal

filen eksporteres som vist:

Eksemplet er fra Autodesk Inventor 2015,

men det skulle fungere på nogenlunde samme

måde i alle versioner af Inventor.

Først klikkes der på I pro menuen i øverste venstre hjørne, derefter åbnes menuen ”Save As”, hvor

man vælger ”Save Copy As”.

Dette er vigtigt, eftersom at ”Save As” ikke giver andre muligheder end en Autodesk Inventor (.IPT

fil).

Under ”Save Copy As” gives muligheden for mange forskellige filer. Alle delene gemmes i STL

filer. Autodesk Inventor er bare et eksempel, da muligheden burde findes i de fleste 3D

programmer.

Konverteringssoftware:

Når STL-filen er gemt, skal den læses ind i et program fra Makerbot, og konverteres til vores

Makerbot 3D-printer.

Når der er tegnet I et 3D tegneprogram og fremstillet en .Stl-fil, skal den gøres klar til printning.

Det sker med programmet ”Makerbot Desktop 3.9.1”.

Start Makerbot-programmet:

I fanen i toppen vælge menuen

”Prepare”.

Derefter trykkes der på ”ADD FILE”,

hvor STL filen vælges.

Det tegnede del skal lægges ned på den største

flade, så det ikke skal printes ” ud i luften ”.

Hertil er der nogle kontroller:

Kvaliteten kan indstilles:

Det anbefales at bruge standard indstillinger, da

”High” tager næsten 3 gange så lang tid.

En figur på ca. 3cm x 17cm x 0,5cm tager 1 timer og 16 minutter at printe under standard.

Raft bør være til, da det er et underlag, der printes under delen. Det gør, at man nemmere kan fjerne

udprintningen fra underlaget efter printningen. Og er desuden beregnet til bedre at holde delen fast

på pladen under printningen.

Support Supports er beregnet til hvis delen har ting der stikker ud midt i luften. Her

kan det være nødvendigt med støttepæle der kan rives af efter udprintningen.

Man kan jo ikke printe flydende plastic oven på luft.

Derfor skal der printes noget luftigt plast, support, til at understøtte

udhænget.

Skrå emner kan dog godt printes. Hvis udhænget er mindre end 45 Grader,

skal der vælges support.

Her er vist en test-udprintning,

hvor de skrå sider bliver mere og

mere skrå. Under 45 grader bliver

kanten ikke så pæn.

Og her er det brækket væk.

Det nederste flade lag kaldes Raft. Det skal

altid med, når man printer med support.

Infill:

Hvor meget skal

Infill is a support structure that is printed inside an object to increase its

strength. It's usually extruded in some kind of pattern; the MakerBot Slicer

uses a hexagonal pattern for infill by default. Typically, the setting you would

be most likely to adjust is infill percentage. A completely hollow object would

have an infill of 0%, while a completely solid object would have an infill of

100%.

More infill will make an object stronger. Less infill will make it lighter and

quicker to build. Before you build something, think about how much infill it

will actually need. Objects for display often won't need more than 10% infill,

and even objects that are going to see hard use rarely need more than 80%

infill. Not using more infill than necessary will help you save time and plastic.

Number of Shells:

Normalt er 2.

Each layer of a given object consists of two parts: shells and infill.

Shells, also known as perimeters, are extruded outlines defining the shape

of the layer. Every object you print must have at least one shell.

Additional shells add to an object’s strength, weight, and print time. Two

or three shells are sufficient for most objects. Additional shells might help

if you see cracks between the layers of your printed objects.

Vha ”add file” kan man hente flere ”.stl” filer ind og evt. placere dem ved

siden af hinanden på ”printpladen”. Herved opnås, at de kan printes samtidigt.

Upload to library Vist nok på Makerbots hjemmeside, hvor man skal være logget ind.

Save file Færdige filer, beabejdet i Makerbot-programmet kan gemmes som

*.thing filer, og senere hentes ind igen.

I Preview-menuen konverteres plastdelen til lag-

opbygget.

Vha. slideren kan man ”se” udprintningen.

Eksport printfile

Eller vælg: Print / Export:

Når alt er indstillet, skal delen konverteres til en fil som

printeren kan læse.

Der skal gemmes en -.Makerbot-fil

Der angives også en ca. printtid.

knap der både kan trykkes på og

Hvis computeren skal sluttes til,

skal kablet på bagsiden bruges.

På bagsiden sidder der, ved siden af ”Power Input Port”, en kontakt til at tænde og slukke printeren.

Når printeren er tændt og der trykkes på

Filament Til at montere eller afmontere plastik. Ved montering skal instruktionerne på

skærmen følges, og plastikket skal trykkes langt nok ned til at maskinen tager fat i

tråden.

Preheat Til at forvarme varmehovedet.

Utilities Her gives nogle værktøjer som fx at stabilisere pladen hvis det skulle ske at den

printer skævt. Følg instruktionerne nøje ved stabilisering af pladen.

Settings Her gives adgang til generelle indstillinger for printeren – burde ikke være

nødvendigt at ændre noget.

Info Her gives generelt info om printeren.

Når USB stikket vælges under menuen Print, tager det noget tid at starte op, så vær ikke bekymret

hvis dette tager lang tid.

Når printet er færdigt kan det

godt være svært at afmontere

printet fra Makerbot pladen.

Vær forsigtig med

afmontereingen, da det blå

tape er dyrt og nemt går i

stykker.

Forsøg at fjerne printet med fx en spatel. Makerbot pladen kan afmonteres hvis det gør det nemmere

at fjerne printet, men sørg for at pladen sidder ordentligt fast i printeren efter, da den godt kan

sættes skævt i.

Go!

Grab an object in the real world you can drag over to your computer (a coffee mug works great). Launch a

browser and go to 3dtin.com and build a model of your object, construct it out of simple building

blocks(“voxels”). (We have tricks for using this tool here and here. When you are done with your model,

export it as an STL file. (And while you are at it, why don’t you take advantage of the option to save it directly

to Thingiverse?)

You aren’t done yet! Take your exported STL and bring it into ReplicatorG. Skein and print it out, taking

advantage of the simple STL manipulation tools in ReplicatorG to scale the object, orient it on the platform so

as to minimize overhangs. Make sure to use the Move > Put on Platform tool to make sure that your model is

firmly seated on the ground. Even if you feel your model is hideously ugly, print it anyway. It is tempting to

judge results by computer visualizations of models — but the printed results may well teach you different

lessons than you expect. And you aren’t done with this model, anyhow.

Level two!

Download and install Wings3D, a powerful subdivision modeler. You will be able to import the STL you

created in 3DTin into Wings3D and view it from all angles. Now, familiarize yourself with the process of

selecting points, lines, faces or entire objects and experiment with the range of tools available, deforming

elements of your original model. There is a Defined Hotkeys pane in the Help menu that will help you get

started.)

You may find yourself initially frustrated that every change you make is either too pronounced or barely

noticeable, but as you accostom yourself to restricting motion to a single axis or range of adjustment (as well

as locating tools for adding additional vertices and edges to the model), you will gain more nuanced control.

After hacking on your original model for a while, export an STL of the changed version with a new name.

(Why don’t you login to Thingiverse and add this second model as an STL to the 3DTin thing you put up

earlier?) You know what you have to do with it: print it!

Level Up: Level Three!

Now start a new empty file in Wings3D, and attempt to recreate the same model from scratch using whatever

methods of manipulation work best for you.1 Don’t be afraid to bruteforce it with only a few design tools at

your disposal (Move, Extrude and Cut, for example, will get you very far). It is better to get your hands into

the design process than to wait until you have “learned everything about the program.”

Join the OpenSCAD parametric design revolution by following MakerBlock’s excellent OpenSCAD tutorials.

Marius Kintel now maintains this project and has been hard at work extending and improving this useful app.

Even if you don’t plan to design with parametrics in mind, exposure to this tool via the tutorial series will

teach you quite a bit about 3D modeling and the power of constructive solid geometry as a design concept,

applicable to any number of other programs. You will be able to export STLs during the tutorials. What do

you do with them? Print them.
