• Read & highlight the Introduction

• Obtain all of the materials required for the lab.

• Trim your chromatography paper so that one end in in a point.

• Draw a faint pencil line and apply a drop of plant pigment to the line.

• Fill the reaction chamber to the black line with developer.

• Feed the paper through the slot on the cap so that the tip enters the developer.

• Fold the top of the paper strip and secure with tape to hold it in place while the solvent “wicks” up.

• Wait 5-7 minutes until the solvent / developer reaches the cap on the reaction chamber.

• Immediately mark the color bands on the CHROMATOGRAM before they fade.

• Measure the distances each pigment traveled from the original dot using the ruler provided. All measurements are in mm.
