Encourage students to practice decoding skills with this fun matching game about blends. Tie to writing by having students use words with blends in sentences or a short story.

STATION TASK CARD Unit 1 2 3 4 _________________ Station Activity Name: Make a Word Standard: Phonics and Word Recognition Skill/Objective: (COPY IN YOUR PASSPORT) Initial Consonant Blends Directions:
1. Spread the puzzle pieces out on the table in front of you. Work alone, with a partner or with the other students at your station. 2. Choose two puzzle pieces to make a word. Say the word aloud and be sure it makes sense.
3. Record the word on your Recording Sheet before returning the puzzle pieces to the table for others to use.
4. Record as many words as you can in the time allowed. Challenge: Use a highlighter to highlight the blends in each word you recorded. Look around the room for other words that start with these blends.
