Your smile is very important part of

your body which affect your

personality. The only thing that you

can wear it 24x7 is your smile.

Health of your teeth is intrinsically

connected to the health of your whole

being and vice versa. For example, if

poor nutrition can weaker your

immune system and which makes you

more susceptible to additional health

problems including gum diseases.

Did you know what you eat has tremendous effect on your teeth?? We

have to think on following things:

*Avoid food that contains acid, sugar and stickiness. Chewy and gooey

(sticky foods) stick to your teeth. Because of this saliva cannot do its job

properly and wash the cavity causing sugars.

*Eat carbohydrate rich food. But bread or pasta is harmful as sugar because

they promote acid causing bacteria.

*When u eat carbohydrates, combine them with foods like cheese to

neutralize acid.

*Add fresh unprocessed food to your diet. Try something like crisp and

fresh raw veggies or crunchy fruit as snack between meals.

*Drink tea instead of soda! Soda contains acid that causes teeth erosion.

While black tea can kill the growth of cavity causing bacteria.

• Use Xylitol based gum and mints after meal. It not only freshens

your mouth but also helps in to prevent formation of cavity.

Xylitol is non-fermentable and cannot be used as energy source for

bacteria. Xylitol helps in remineralisation of teeth. It increases pH

to neutralize decreased pH (acidic) after meal.

• Garlic, apples, grapes, shiitake mushroom, cocoa is food that fights

or combat cavity causing bacteria, bad breath, gum disease. This

food contains compound that may prevent cavity causing bacteria

from sticking to teeth. Try to eat your treats (sweets) only once a

day to limit the time sugar or acid is left on your teeth.

Vitamins: Vitamin C- promotes gum health and quick healing of wounds.

To take vitamin C eat peppers, oranges, grapefruit, strawberries and kiwi.

Vitamin D is required for absorption of calcium so add it. Food containing

phosphorus and vitamin A and vitamin B can also protect your enamel.

Hence, add some fish, milk, sweet potatoes, spinach to your everyday diet.

*Calcium- Dairy products and beans protect and rebuild tooth enamel and

protect jaw bone. Add more milk, cheese or yogurt to your diet.

Most important thing is...after eating; don't forget to brush

your teeth or at least rinsing or proper gargling your mouth.
