BAB I PENDAHULUAN Angiogenesis adalah proses terbentuknya pembuluh darah baru dari endotel pembuluh darah yang sudah ada sebelumnya. Proses angiogenesis sangat penting dalam reproduksi, pertumbuhan, dan proses penyembuhan luka. Pada proses normal tersebut, angiogenesis terkontrol dengan baik dan proses pembentukan pembuluh darah baru akan berlangsung dalam beberapa waktu hingga pada saat tertentu prosesnya akan berhenti. Beberapa penyakit pada retina mengakibatkan proses angiogenesis ini menjadi tidak terkontrol sama sekali. 1 Retina merupakan jaringan saraf berlapis yang tipis dan semitransparan, yang melapisi 2/3 bagian dalam posterior dinding bola mata. Retina secara metabolik adalah jaringan yang paling aktif pada tubuh manusia sehingga sangat sensitif terhadap penurunan kadar oksigen. Setiap perubahan kadar oksigen pada mata akan mempengaruhi retina. Hipoksia sistemik atau penyakit pembuluh darah pada retina dapat menyebabkan penurunan perfusi oksigen di retina. 2 Angiogenesis pada retina dapat terjadi pada penyakit- penyakit seperti Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR), Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), dan Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO). PENDAHULUAN
Angiogenesis adalah proses terbentuknya pembuluh darah baru dari endotel
pembuluh darah yang sudah ada sebelumnya. Proses angiogenesis sangat penting dalam
reproduksi, pertumbuhan, dan proses penyembuhan luka. Pada proses normal tersebut,
angiogenesis terkontrol dengan baik dan proses pembentukan pembuluh darah baru
akan berlangsung dalam beberapa waktu hingga pada saat tertentu prosesnya akan
berhenti. Beberapa penyakit pada retina mengakibatkan proses angiogenesis ini menjadi
tidak terkontrol sama sekali. 1
Retina merupakan jaringan saraf berlapis yang tipis dan semitransparan, yang
melapisi 2/3 bagian dalam posterior dinding bola mata. Retina secara metabolik adalah
jaringan yang paling aktif pada tubuh manusia sehingga sangat sensitif terhadap
penurunan kadar oksigen. Setiap perubahan kadar oksigen pada mata akan
mempengaruhi retina. Hipoksia sistemik atau penyakit pembuluh darah pada retina
dapat menyebabkan penurunan perfusi oksigen di retina.2
Angiogenesis pada retina dapat terjadi pada penyakit-penyakit seperti
Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR), Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), Age-
related Macular Degeneration (AMD), dan Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO).
Kondisi ini seringkali mengakibatkan proses angiogenesis yang tidak terkontrol pada
retina sehingga mengakibatkan munculnya pembuluh darah baru pada retina dan
selanjutnya bisa mengakibatkan kebutaaan. 1
Prose angiogenesis melibatkan berbagai growth factor. Pada retina, beberapa
growth factor terlibat dalam proses angiogenesis diantaranya Vascular Endothelial
Growth Factor (PDGF), Basic fibroblast Growth Factor (bFBF), dan Angiopoietin.
