A request for push mowersfor the boat yards

The club is in need of a few mowers this year. If you have a

decent operable mower not being used that you could donate to the

club please contact Dale Gronniger 316-371-7891; email

yardmaster@ninnescah or contact Patrick Adams, Property Manager.

A MESSAGE FROM THE YARDMASTER

As we are starting a new season, the Yardmaster wants to remind every one of a few things:

Club rules require that we check our boat and trailer at least every two weeks. If you are already mowing your yard at home, it’s a safe bet your yard space needs attention too. We mow for fire hazard as well as appearance. Please do not use Roundup or other herbicides, as they will only kill the grass, create dry areas that will burn easily, and only the weeds will return. During the heavy growth times, for fire safety, it may be necessary to mow more than just once a month.

Yard spaces will be inspected on the first Sunday of the month. If the growth is heavy, thick or high enough to touch the frame of your trailer, it will be mowed for you and you will be billed.

Please take note: Extra reminder notices won’t be going out this year.

Have you checked your boat LATELY?

TAKE THE EASY WAY OUT!AVOID WORRYING ABOUT MOWING!

Sign up to have contract maintenance mowing for your space for only $146.00 per year!

Contact Dale Gronniger by emailing [email protected] or call

CURRENT FEES:     Mowing Maintenance Fee $146.00     Mowing Yard Space Empty $ 42.00     Mowing Yard Space Full $ 61.00     Mowing Yard Space Immobile $ 98.00

Please consider the following: • Mowers are provided in the sheds in each yard. Please check the oil in the mower before using. • Be sure to move your trailer to mow and bring your weed eater from home. • Keep your space clear of junk and debris that will damage the mowers. • The only tie downs allowed are those that are set in concrete. The twist in doggie style are mower killers, and do not hold in our Kansas storms. Please report any missing tie downs. • The yard spaces are for boats and trailers only.

Page 6: Main0616

YARD MATTERS: • The notorious spring storms are coming, make sure your trailer and boat is properly tied down

and your trailer tires are inflated. • Mark your trailers with name and phone number. • Lock the gate on unoccupied yards. • Take your used oil and batteries with you.

CAMPING MATTERS: • All State park rules apply, including attended camping units every 24 hours. • All campers must have camping stickers. • Your canine quadruped must be on a leash.

NSA ELECTRICAL SERVICE FOR CAMPERS: • The sites are open to members and non-members alike. The electric fee: • For NSA members: $9.00 / night and is paid to our Property Manager with a check or cash,or sign a receipt at the bathhouse and be billed. • Please review the procedure posted on the electrical outlet post. • Display your receipt copy in the roadside window of the camper. Air Conditioning on boats: • The annual fee is $110.00 • The per night fee is $9.00 (the same as with electrical camping) • Display your copy of the receipt in the starboard cabin window. • Ice is for sale in the basement of the Afterdeck. Pay cash or sign a receipt and be billed. You’ll

need a basement key for entrance, and a yard key for access to the icebox. • Always lock the Afterdeck and boat yards if you are the last one out.

Ahoy SailorsDo you have a boat at home or in a yard space you just don't use and don't know what to do with it ? You could try and

sell it , with all the work that comes with selling a boat. Better Yet Donate your unwanted boat to NEST and get the value in a TAX Donation and deduct it from your taxes.

For more information about donating your boat contact us at NEST. We will use the proceeds to help fund adult and junior learn to sail programs at Cheney Lake.

New Member? Consider NSA Mentorship"Do I mow my assigned storage yard space? Which launch ramp can I use? Can I run the crane myself?" New members sometimes have lots of questions. Sometimes, you don't know who to ask or maybe you are a tad bit embarrassed to ask. Not to worry. We want you to become familiar with NSA as soon as possible, so that you will feel comfortable, confident, and realize just how much this unique sailing organization has to offer the entire family.

We would be happy to assign you a personal mentor for 12 months (or less, if you wish.) The mentor would serve as your guide, assistant, and teacher, according to whatever questions or concerns you might present. Although you may find answers to administrative questions in the NSA Yearbook, we encourage you to press your mentor for guidance on

such things as listed below. The list is not all-inclusive, and they are only suggestions. You may have concerns that are not on the list.

You may contact the mentor program facilitator, Rob

Gate and fence repair at the club…

On Saturday May 28th ( yes, during their holiday weekend) A number our folks pitched in to help replace a broken gate and hang some fence fabric on the west boat yard. The gate was broken beyond reasonable repair and we replaced it with another unused gate from the east boat yard. It gave us the opportunity to widen the gate and install it in a way to avoid the same kind of damage in the future. If you are a user of the west yard you will easily notice the upgrade or maybe you can just appreciate the effort it takes to keep the club in ship shape for your enjoyment. John Vredenburg and crew were also getting a jump on the shoreline debris clean-up that will be necessary due to the high water. This will be the next very big job for us as (crossed fingers) the lake goes down. If you find time to help out feel free to adopt some shoreline clean-up and help us reclaim our facility from the high water aftermath.

Please thank these folks when you see them. They volunteered a beautiful morning

Board of Governors Minutes June 2, 2016 Yardmaster:D.Gronniger

May has been a busy month. Nancy and Rob Fresh have been busy replanting flowers in the new whisky barrel planters along the docks and at the afterdeck. They look great. Would remind our members to water them when necessary.

Most of the cost of barrels have been donated, I'm still looking for a few small donations to finish it up. Sharon Goodwin has the shower house planters looking good again.

We held two volunteer clean up days in May - the 14th and the 23rd. We had a strong turnout of folks and accomplished a number of tasks including the start of a broken gate replacement on the west yard. On Saturday May 28th we got a crew together and mostly completed the gate / fence project. It gains us a wider access gate for the big boats. We used a wider gate from the far end of the east boatyard instead of replacing with new. New fence fabric will cover all the repaired area.

I will add that it was on a holiday weekend and we had a very good showing of sailors on maybe the nicest day we have had in a while. An article will be in the Mainsheet to acknowledge and thank everyone for helping with these projects. The next Yards mowing inspection will be Sunday June 5th. Contract and delinquent mowing will follow as soon as possible. Thank you.

The fleet will have extra boats available to loan out for those who want to participate but do not own a Snipe.

CLUB WIDE VOLUNTEER CLEAN-UP DAYS

From the Yardmaster.

Thank you again to all the folks who turned out to help on the

May Volunteer Saturday workdays held on the 14th and 21st.

Camping and beach areas were cleaned up, trees were trimmed and hauled off, grounds were leveled. Afterdeck basement and equipment sheds were cleaned in advance of our inspection from the landlord. A much needed gate replacement and widening project was started on the big boatyard.

Thank you also to Rob and Nancy Fresh for installing and planting the new flower barrels around the slips and Afterdeck. And thank you to those of you who generously donated money and materials to replace the aging barrel planters.

Sharon Goodwin has been busy planting and refreshing the planting areas by the restrooms / shower house that we all enjoy.

It put us in good shape for the holiday and gets the summer off to a good start. When you see these folks please give them a hearty THANKS! For their hard work.

I am in awe of the many others who do so so much behind the scenes to make it happen, Please forgive me if I have missed someone.
