Message from the Commodore❱ ❱ ❱

We have been fortunate to have some really nice days in January and now early February. I am sure all of us are starting to think about the fact that it won’t be long before we can get our boats wet and that list of what we need to do to make that happen.

NSA had two really fun parties at the Afterdeck in the last month. First was the Winter Party on January 24 which had a fun crowd, great live band, and really good food. Many thanks goes out to Renae Pusateri for organizing and hosting the party. The second was the annual Superbowl Party on February 1. The game was great which provided a really good atmosphere for a lot of fun with a lively crowd in attendance. The pot luck appetizers were really good also. Our 50th Anniversary Social year is off to a great start and hopefully you all can attend some of the many upcoming functions this year.

Speaking of the 50th Anniversary year there are a few dates that you need to mark on your Calendar for our signature events this year. The first will be June 20 for the 50th Anniversary Blessing of the Fleet. Not only will we be do-ing the annual boat blessing but we will be encouraging members to decorate their boats for the parade by the Blessing Boat. We will have a photographer on the boat to take pictures for all who attend as they sail by. Then after allowing time for everyone to enjoy sailing, we will have an early evening Wine/Ap-petizer Pot Luck Party at the Afterdeck. The next weekend, June 27, there will be a Poker Run Fundraiser which in years past has been a lot of fun. July 25 we will be celebrating a 50th Anniversary reunion weekend event. More informa-tion will follow in the coming months on exactly what will be happening those dates. We hope to contact past members and invite them to return for at least one of those dates. Progress is being made on developing a contact list for these past members and we may ask for your help with addresses and emails. Marlys Pierce will be putting together a member’s cookbook. Special merchandise with a 50th Anniversary logo will be available throughout the year. The logo will be unveiled in the next Mainsheet or before.

NSA Learn to Sail Classes are coming together nicely and we have received some reservations for the classes. There is still a need for more instructors for both the small boat and keelboat portions of the class. Please contact Kent Carter if you are interested in either taking a class or becoming an instructor. If you know anyone that is not a member that might be interested please send them the information from this mainsheet or direct them to the NSA Website for more details.

Cindy and I are off to BVI for a few days so we will be thinking of all our friends and fellow sailors as we cruise through the beautiful blue water.

The Winter Party went well. A big thanks to Dean and Renae Pusateri for putting on a great party. We had about 42 members present. The band, Blue Eyed Soul, was excellent. I highly recommend them for other functions. Calendar sales are slow. We’ve sold between 25 & 30. We may want to lower the price pretty soon. I have been making calls to fill hosts po-sitions for the years’ coming events. I still have 2 or 3 open-ings-if anyone knows someone who is interested have them give me a call. Slip exchange meeting March 7th.Comments:

Wonder whether we should go back to some kind of so-cial event tied into the exchange? Desserts/soup/chili? Doug would provide the ice cream if others would bring cakes, etc. Originally it was a soup competition.Vice Commodore: Jaime Kissinger

KBRSThe 2015 KBRS committee will be: Jack Kramer, Frank

Couch, Gary Shepard and Tom OlsonRegattas:

We are looking for a Regatta Chairman to fill this fun and exciting job. We already have someone who will handle all the food and kitchen duties.

We are preparing to have a CPR/AED class at the Afterdeck.Commodore Elect: Andy Woodward

I need a list of all the work credit members and their assign-ments to the various committees. Where are the vacancies and what are your needs?Past Commodore: Paul Faber:

Afterdeck Windows TaskforceTaskforce members include Paul Faber; chairperson, Andy

Woodward, David Parrish, Doug Veith, Jim Carlisle, and Dale Gronniger. The first committee meeting is set for February 12. lt is my goal to present a window recommendation to the board at the April meeting.

Old Business:Plans for the 50th Anniversary celebration are moving right

along. Marlys Pierce is gathering recipes for the planned cook-book. We think we will have more than one event to celebrate and would like to have a more upscale dinner, but try to keep the cost in the $20 range. We would like to try to encourage past members to attend and would like to honor our worker of the year trophy maker.

Adult Learn to [email protected] Lund has a 115 hp. two stroke motor and we are in a

search for a suitable prop for it. We will task Patrick to job of mixing the fuel as needed.

There are some supplier issues regarding the construction of the new toilets by the shelter house boat ramp. We want to be sure the pit toilet remains until the new one is built.

Scheduled Afterdeck Events include: Feb 28 Cheney Lake Assoc., March 7 NSA Slip Exchange Meeting April 4 NSA Judging Seminar. And there are three exclusive rentals in April: the Pretty Prairie high school prom on the 11th and two weddings-the 16th and the 25th. May 2 Cheney Lake State Park Meeting.

No report on the WiFi Regarding the Afterdeck windows: we have five bids in hand

and the committee will narrow them down to three and then invite those three to make their presentations explaining their product and time frames.

New Business:NSA Learn to Sail Motions:

Approve NSA Learn to Sail Classes as a recognized sailing course in accordance with Article V Sections 1e and 2h of the Associations By-Law. This would allow graduates of the Learn to Sail Classes to not pay the initiation fee and get ½ off a full membership in their first year of membership. This motion was tabled for a later discussion and vote.

In exchange for a two year commitment to assist in teaching the NSA Adult Learn to Sail Classes, waive the cost of the NSA initiation fee and membership dues for the first year for former Red Cross instructors Kathy Westerhoff and Ken Ratlief. All other fees will be at full price.

This motion carried. Kissinger/FaberWe have established a need for a computer projector to be

utilized for our various events. Jaime Kissinger has researched this and showed several examples to the board, but more study is needed.

KBRSAhoy there mate! Even in the middle of winter, the NSA "old salts" still like to get

together to "chew the fat" on Wednesday nights at Emerson Biggins Sports Bar & Grill starting at 5:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to spin a yarn of summer's past sailing days. It's a good time hanging out with sailing buddies drinking some grog and ordering some grub. You don't have to be a part of KBRS to join in with the camaraderie of the "old salts" of NSA. Emerson Biggins. Call Gary Cheatum if you have any questions.

To gain quick access to the NSA FB page click on the FB logo below. You can also go to the NSA website homepage and look for the instructions in the announcements on the right hand column. Once you get to the NSA page make sure you LIKE us and rate us a 5-star.

1980 O’DAY 23' SAILBOATThe boat is a centerboard model with the standard rig 1980 O’Day 23-2. The boat has custom cruiser/racer full cut sails made by Hild Sails in 1996. Up front is a 150% genoa that can be reefed to 100% on a Hood Yacht Systems roller furler. The main sail has stan-dard battens and one set of reef points. All lines have been run aft to the cockpit so that one person can easily handle the boat. The boat can also go almost anywhere due the shallow draft (2.26' with the centerboard up).

The cockpit features custom Marine

closed cell foam cushions made by JSI, a compass, and Autohelm ST30 Bitdata in-strumentation (which I was told worked but never messed with).

The boat also comes with an electric start 9.9 Johnson Sailmaster outboard motor. The motor starts and runs great. All of the fuel lines were replaced last fall and the carburetor and fuel pump were rebuilt (both with OEM kits). After having this motor I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to go back to a pull start.

The electrical system is also in working order featuring a marine deep cycle battery, trickle charger, working lights, radio and speakers. (The bilge was working when I purchased the boat but was acting up when I checked it the second time so a new one was purchased and hasn’t been installed yet).

The cabin interior is in good shape with all of the original cushions, a nice dinette table and one piece carpet (which prevents slipping).

It sits on a freshly restored tandem axle trailer (professionally sandblasted, painted, all new wiring, lights, bearings, races and seals replaced. The only thing I haven’t done yet to prepare it for a long haul is replace the tires).

The boat also comes with lots of extras: Set of hank-on original O’Day sails, and addi-tional 150% genoa. Swim ladder. Multiple sets of hatch boards (originals, plexiglass, and new unused teak). Set of new hatch runner boards (never installed)

I wish I could keep it but I am moving to Santa Ana for work and between the cost of living increase and how expensive it will be to keep it there I need to sell it. All reasonable offers will be considered. Please email me at [email protected] or call/text me after 4PM at (251)508-0156. 1979 CATALINA 27 The Catalina 27 features a spacious interior with 6' headroom. A forward stateroom con-tains a v-berth and locker, there is a separate head compartment, a dinette, settee berth and galley in the main salon. The dinette collapses to convert to an aft berth as well. It has cushions for the dinette. The cockpit area is large with storage seating. 9.9 outboard motor. Two main 150 sails two jibs and one spinnaker a rolling furler CID. All in great shape. Covers on all sails. Heavy duty trans-

port trailer. Extras: Microwave, Grill, AM, FM, CD radio and a GPS. $7,500. Please call 316-239-1472 or email [email protected]
