Aim & Purpose

The purpose of this slide show is so that I can give a clear picture to my audience of what would be the best music genre magazine to create depending on their tastes and opinions.

I will give examples and also my main ideas for three different different genre’s of music. The features in these magazines will connect to their genre.

I will ask my peers their opinion of my ideas and from that I will gain the genre of magazine that best suits my audience or certain features that would make that type of magazine interesting. I am going to create my magazine for my peers, not myself, so this is why I am doing this.

Idea OneMy first idea was to create a trance magazine. There isn’t many trance based music magazines out there so this would be good for the market. My target audience will be from 18 - 25. Trance is a stage in a young adult’s life, (club life) which is why this audience suits this genre.

I would include images such as a trance concert with the lights and crowd. This would be difficult to take an image of however. Other images would include audiences, artwork, advertisements, etc. I could use the main image as a DJ and then put a background behind this.

Main features would include concert reviews, top 100 clubs, top 100 DJ’s, album reviews, information, etc. Would also include some technology features as this will link in with the audience.

A similar magazine is DJMag. This magazine has a tech/house/rave based genre. It has similar features to what would be seen in my magazine and also a similar style. Similar Magazine & Style

Idea TwoDrum & Bass is my second idea for my music magazine. D&B is growing in popularity which is why this becomes a good genre to bas my mag on. The target audience would be from 15-24. Teens and young adults are mostly interested in this style of music and they are mostly male as well.

The main image I would use would be a D&B artist as I would also use this artist as a featured article inside. Other images would include tech for advertisements, artwork, other D&B artists, etc. Things that would link to the genre and the audience.

Features would include the main artist doing a interview about there latest album. Other features would include festivals guide, a free D&B mixed CD and a section about software to create your own D&B music.

A similar magazine to the magazine I wish to create is called ‘ATM’. It includes similar features and uses the style of text and image to relate it to the genre.

Idea ThreeIdea three is for a slow rock/pop based magazine. Artists similar to that such of Coldplay and snow patrol. The audience would be a wider range of ages as some older men like this type of music because of how long the bands have been around. My target audience will be from 18-35 as this type of music has a much broader interest.

Images would include main artists, behind the scenes of artists recording music, artwork, advertisements, etc. Things that would link to the audience and also the lifestyle of a reader.

Features would include reviews of a bands concert, as rock and pop are big for concerts. It would also include latest album news and information on artists that are touring, etc.

A similar magazine for this idea would be the rolling stone. I would not use this style but the genre of magazine and some features are similar.

Peers Opinion & Overall Evaluation

From my peers opinion is that I should create the drum and bass magazine. They believe the features included would be good and it would be an interesting read. Also they believe that it is true in what I say that D&B popularity is growing. They think I should keep the use of the free CD and also try to make my main image look realistic.

To conclude, I will create the drum and bass magazine. It is a favourite of mine and I myself would read a magazine about this genre of music. My peers think that it would be best to use this. They are my anticipated targeted audience so it will be best to create something on their likes and interests as well.
