Day 1 (Tuesday 18/2/2014):

1.Visit to Tervan Medhe forest research center: Information about different seedlings raised in forest

2. Visit to Tilari Dam:

"The construction of the dam began in 1986 & completed in May 2009.”

S. Paramasivan was the managing director of the Tillari irrigation development corporation.

Presently, the dam water meets the drinking water and industrial demands of three talukas in North Goa: Bicholim, Mermen and Bardez.

“The total irrigation potential of the Tillari irrigation project in Goa is 1862 hectares.”

Day 2 (Wednesday 19/2/2014): 1. Visit to forest research center Padve[Majgaon]

We had visited forest research center Padve – Majgaon with forest guard Mr. D.A.Pednekar and Mr. P.P.Sawant. He had given us information as follows:-

Different medicinal plants in forest nursery with their uses.How to make seedlings in nursery. Information about coupe marking:Coupe marking is done in following ways

1.Take map of that area.2.Take working plan of that area.3.See coupe before counting trees. 4.Detailed information about products. 5.B-form Preparation.

2.Forest research center Phondaye:

Then we had visited forest research center Phondaye with research forest guard Miss. Pooja More. She had given information about teak seed orchard as follows :-

‘A seed orchard is a key element in a successful tree improvement program.’

Objective: Seed orchard can be produce genetically superior

seeds, in which forest productivity will be enhanced. The germination capacity of the seed is better than

normal seed. The harvesting is easy.

Methodology:

o Establishment of seed orchard is based upon the following steps-

Selection of plus tree.

Site selection – location, layout, pit digging,

Preparation of grafts.

Planting designs.

Collection of scion wood.

Fertilizers.

After care.

Day 3 (Thursday 20-02-2014):

1. Visit to Forest office Kudal. We had visited forest office Kudal Division

Sawantwadi, Range Kudawal, total forest area 9300 ha.

There we met forest officer Mr. S.P. Kadam. He provided information about working of forest department.

He had also given information about wildlife conflict, Olive ridley turtle & different wild animals in Sindhudurg and their conservation.

Some cases handled by them related to wildlife conflict.

2. Visit to Bamboo konbac Industry. Then we had visited Bamboo KONBAC Industry in Kudal MIDC, there we have

gathered information as follows – "KONBAC", came into existence in 2004 to play a

significant role in this market. KONBAC is training local people for manufacturing

bamboo crafts, furniture, and structures. KONBAC's target is to provide at least 250 work days in

year to each household.

Processing Bamboo- KONBAC have superb facilities for the primary processing

of bamboo. This processing is mechanized and includes the use of

machinery like lathes for Cross cutting, External knot removing, Splitting, Internal knot removing etc.

Grading, sorting & drying are done carefully to get perfect texture & colour for each product.

Environment friendly adhesives are used in the preparation of products.

All products as well as the raw material are carefully stored in humidity controlled warehouses before and after the manufacturing process.

3. Visit to saw mill Process in sawmill – trees are selected for harvest. felling the trees & bucking them to length. Logs are loaded into the truck. Lags are transport to the swa mill. sorting the logs by species, size and end use

is known as Decking. A saw uses to break the log into cants Drying removes naturally occurring moisture

from the lumber.This can be done with air-dried.Transport the finished lumber to market.

Day 4 (Friday 21-02-2014):

1. Visit to Insuli biodiversity:

We had visited Insuli with Mr. S.G. Patil, D.A. Pednekar,

P.P. Sawant, he had given information about

biodiversity in Insuli forest & he also added

information about important of Garcinia

xanthochymus tree.

When we reached insuli plantation we saw footprints

of elephant.

2. Visit Devasu Teak seed plot:

Then we had visited Devasu Teak seed plot with P.P.Sawant sir where we got information about Teak trees.

He had given information regarding plus tree, selection criteria for plus tree, selection of candidate tree, marking of plus tree.

He also added information about pre-treatment given to teak seeds. The mixture of cow dung, soil and boric acid should be prepared then teak seeds

are soaked in the mixture for seven days. Then seeds are taken out from mixture and dried for seven days. This process will be repeated for three to four times and then sowing is done. If we apply this pre-treatment to teak seed then we will get maximum 50%

germination.

3. Visit to Amboli forest range

Then we had visited Amboli forest range with P.P.Sawant sir.

There we had got information about their Official work.

Then we had visited a natural plantation of narkya tree in Amboli.

There is natural plantation of narkya on 5 ha area. This area was selected as

reserve forest in 2006-07.

There are about 521 seed bearing trees.

There we found the Sphagnum moss on the narkya trees.

Pre-treatment given to narkya seeds are acid treatment, hot water

treatment and cold water treatment.

Day 5 (Saturday 22-02-2014)

1.Visit to Madhyamik Vidyalay Degve: There we had conducted awareness

programme related to forest and wild animals.

The principal of the school Shree. Shinde sir was also present for the programme.

2. Visit to Khavad Talkat forest nursery: Then we had visited Khavad Talkat Reserve forest, there we had taken

different information about forest medicinal plant. Name plates has been given to all the plants in the nursery. It is a beautiful garden.

Day 6 (Sunday 23-02-2014)

Visit to Padve Majgaon research nursery: We had visited padve Majgaon research nursery with

Mr.S.G.Patil & Pednekar sir he had given information about how weeding is done in polythene bags in nursery.

We estimation the growing stock of casurina equsitifuliaby using Quarter garth formula in nursery.

Quarter girth formula- (g/4)²L. We saw giant squirrel.

Day 7 (Monday 24-02-2014)

Visit to Deshbhakt Shankarrao Gavankar college:

At the last of the programme we had visited

Deshbhakt Shankarrao Gavankar College

Sawantwadi.

They gave us information about management and

marketing.

There we got detailed information about

environment & their conservation.
