Wildlife Sanctuaries and National parks existing in thiscountry (Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh,Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarh, Delhi,Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu &Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh,Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram,Nagaland, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim,Tamilnadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal)should be known with regard to the understanding in athorough manner about the various wild animalspecies belonging to multiple species.
WILDLIFE RULES, ACT AND ORGANIZATION
This module is designed for students to knowabout various important acts and rules includingdifferent types of organizations pertaining towildlife conservation and zoo set up.
The objectives are To reveal about wildlife protection act and
different organizations both at national and atinternational level.
To know about Zoo – set up To understand about various roles played by
various units in zoo
WildlifeWildlife (according to Wildlife Protection Act)
According to this act, “Wildlife” is defined as“any animal, bee, butterflies, crustacean, fishand moths and aquatic or land vegetation”.Thus it is to be understood that Wildlife is theterm that embraces all life forms that are wildor care themselves.
Important sections are to be understoodaccordingly by the attending veterinarian also.
ACTS AND RULES RELATED TO ZOO AND WILD ANIMALS
Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 This was amended in the year 1991 and 2002.
According to this act, “Wildlife” is defined as “anyanimal, bee, butterflies, crustacean, fish andmoths and aquatic or land vegetation”. Thus it isto be understood that Wildlife is the term thatembraces all life forms that are wild or carethemselves. There are many important sectionsof this act which are to be understood.

Declaration of Sanctuary The State Government may by notification
declare its intention to constitute any area orarea comprised with any reserve forest orterritorial waters as Sanctuary if it considers thatsuch area is of adequate ecological faunal, floral,geomorphological, natural or zoologicalsignificance for the purpose of protecting,propagating or developing wildlife or itsenvironment.
Acts And Rules Related To Zoo And Wild Animals Section-27
Restriction of entry in Sanctuary No person other than
1. a public servant on duty
2. a person who has been permitted by the Chief Warden or theauthorized officer to reside within limits of the sanctuary.
3. a person who has any right over immovable property within limitsof the sanctuary.
4. a person passing through the sanctuary along a public highwayand
5. The dependents of the person classified in class (1), (2), (3)
Shall enter and reside in the sanctuary, except under and inaccordance with the conditions of a permit granted under section28.
Acts And Rules Related To Zoo And Wild Animals Section-28
Grant of permit The Chief Wildlife Warden may on application grant to any person a
permit to enter or reside in a sanctuary for all (or) any of the followingpurpose:
Investigation or study of Wildlife and purposes of ancillary or incidentalthreats.
Photography
Scientific research
Tourism
Transaction of any lawful business with any person residing in thesanctuary.
A permit to enter or reside in a sanctuary shall be issued subject to suchconditions and on payment of such fee as may be prescribed.
Acts And Rules Related To Zoo And Wild Animals Section: 33-A
Immunization of Livestock The Chief Wildlife Warden shall take such
measures in such manner as may be prescribed,for immunization against communicable diseasesof livestock kept in or within 5 kms of thesanctuary.
No person shall take or cause to be taken orgrazed any livestock in a sanctuary withoutgetting it immunized.

Schedule I to VI are dealt by Wildlife Protection Act 1972 withamendments during 1986 and 1991. Important animals ineach schedule are given below:
Schedule I Part I – Mammals
Indian chinkara, Indian lion, Indian wild ass, Indian wolf,leopard, leopard cat, Lion-tailed macaque, Loris, Gaur orIndian Bison, Cheetah, Indian gazelle, Dugong, Nilgiri Tahr,Niligiri langur, Musk deer, Sloth bear, Tiger, Wild Buffalo,Mouse deer, Hog badger, Hispid Hare, Chinese pangolin, Crab-eating macaque, Desert fox, Fishing cat, Four-hornedantelope, Indian one-horned Rhinoceros, Rusty spotted cat,Serow, Swamp deer etc.
Part II – Amphibians and Reptiles Pythons, Water lizard, Gharial, Estuarine (or)
Salt water crocodile, Golden Gecko, Green seaturtle, Leathery turtle, Logger head turtle,Hawksbill turtle, Indian egg-eating snake.
Part II A – Fishes
Whale shark, Shark, Ray, Sea horse, Giantgrouper.
Part III – Birds Hornbills, Mountain quail, Peafowl, Andaman

striped palm squirrel, Black napped hare,Common Indian hare, Desert hare, Himalayanmouse hare.
Schedule VI Birds like Coots, Cranes, Cormorants,
Flamingos, Ibises.
Ladies slipper orchids, Red Vanda, BlueVanda.
This is act to provide for constitution ofbiological diversity, sustainable use of itscomponents and fair and equitablesharing of the benefits arising out of theuse of biological resources, knowledgeand for matters connected there with orincidental threats.
Following Are The Important Definitions In This
“Chairperson” means the chairperson of the NationalBiodiversity Authority (NBA) or as to case may be of the StateBiodiversity Board.
“Member” means a member of the National BiodiversityAuthority (NBA) or a State Biodiversity Board and includes theChairperson.
Bio-survey and Bio-utilization means survey or collection ofspecies, sub species, genus, components and extracts ofbiological resource for any purpose and includescharacterization, inventorisation and bioassay.
“Value added products” means products containing potionsor extracts of animals as well as the plants in unrecognizableand physically inseparable form
