COMPARISON OF THE

PHILOSOPHER’S IDEAS

On Philosophy of Science

Page 9: Magnani & Agazzi's Comparison of Philosophy of Science

Philosophy of Science

According to Magnani

is concerned with the assumptions, foundations,

methods, implications of science, and with the use and merit of science. This

discipline sometimes overlaps metaphysics and epistemology, viz., when it explores whether scientific results comprise a study

of truth

Page 10: Magnani & Agazzi's Comparison of Philosophy of Science

According to Agazzi

philosophy of science, accepting in it also an axiology of science that could enable us to retain the cognitive value of science and at the same time to make techno-scientific activity

compatible with the satisfaction of a great variety

of values that inspire our societies.

ABDUCTIVE REASONINGis a form of logical

inference that goes from data description of something to a

hypothesis that accounts for the reliable data and seeks to explain relevant

evidence

SCIENTIFIC REALISM

he characterizes the scientific objectivity and

the defense of a "scientific realism“ is

based on a deepening of the notions of reference

and truth, with its implications of ontological type

There views are almost the same,

because it requires TRUE EVIDENCES and REFERENCES in order for them to

achieve a deepened and

reliable outcome.
