The decision to send their child abroad for education is the biggest and riskiest decision parents can make.

magman, with a decade of foreign-educational experience in China, has a proven history of student-placements in Tier1 and upper Tier 2 foreign secondary schools.

The magman Foreign School Program addresses the three requirements necessary prior to the student commencement date in their foreign school, they are:

1. magman Foreign School Placement Program - Locating and applying to schools-of-best-fit to the student in consultation with the parents and the student. If the family is planning to visit the schools selected we will assist by arranging appointments with the schools.

2. magman Foreign School Interview Preparation – Preparation for the critical foreign schools interviews with a foreign school representative and the enrollment-assessment tests (Entrance Exams).

3. magman Transition Program - Designed to assist students transition from a very formal Chinese education system to a very different education system to maximize the classroom readiness of the student.

Please note, magman is not an “agent” it does not seek commissions from schools or exorbitant fees from local families for placing students in foreign schools.

试以及入学考试做好准备。

3. magman 外国学习过渡课程 – 帮助学生从传统的中国教育体系过

渡到有着天渊之别的外国教育体系,以便让学生尽快适应课程的学

习。

magman不是“留学中介”,既没有从学校获取佣金,也没有通过把学生介

绍到外国学校从而获取寄读家庭高昂的介绍费。

Foreign School Placement Program 外国择校服务

For the student to be successful in their new foreign school the selection of the right school must be based on student / school compatibility, not the financial gain of an intermediary.

Introduction:

magman is not an educational-agent; our motivation is to ensure a successful partnership is formed between the student, his/her family and the foreign school. As a non-agent we do not seek nor accept commissions from foreign-schools.

magman has a history of over ten years working in education in China. One of the educational responsibilities magman undertakes is assisting it's students in getting placed into foreign schools for further education. Overseas schools that magman has worked with can be found in all native English speaking countries.

For your information, there are generally three levels (Tiers) of foreign mainstream middle and high schools:

Tier 1: The schools of the highest academic and cultural level.

Tier 2: Good schools below Tier 1.

Tier 3: These are the average schools, the ones that most agents deal with, because, to attract students the schools have to pay commissions.

magman deals only with Tier 1 and selected Tier 2 schools. The upper level of Tier 2 schools rarely utilize agents because, like Tier 1, they do not pay commissions; also, the work involved in gaining acceptance can be daunting to say the least, most agents cannot justify the time expenditure.

‘Where, When, Why and How of Foreign Middle and High Schools’ is a detailed publication magman developed for it’s students and families. The booklet outlines all the necessary information required for making a decision about foreign education. This booklet is given free to all magman families.

Advice: - In order to provide advice, which is current and correct the student will undertake the magman Assessment Test. Then, in discussion with the family, we compile a detailed biography of the student and match the student to the school/s (not the other way around). Once the selection of potential schools is completed magman advises the family on the best way to apply.

Application: - To simplify the application process magman will provide a checklist of all the document requirements to complete the relevant forms and will processes all

the necessary paperwork related to the application process, including the translation of Chinese documents into English.

Interviews: - The school-interview (mandatory in Tier 1 and Tier 2 schools) is of critical importance in the enrollment process. magman offers an intensive two-day interview preparation course which will give the student greater confidence to excel at their interview. If the family intends to travel to the destination country to visit the selected schools they are applying for and complete the interview at the school, magman in consultation with the parents, will arrange the appointments at the schools to fit in with their itinerary.

Assessment: - Many Tier 1 and Tier 2 schools apply their own assessment tests in English, Math and Science. magman offers the Interview Preparation Course programs for these “English only” assessment exams. If you wish your child to be offered a place in a good school, exam preparation is critical if they are to successfully compete for a place against students from around the world.

Liaise: - When the student has enrolled in their chosen school, magman maintains communication with the school to monitor the student’s progress in their new school.

Visa’s - magman does not provide or in any way assist in the application for Visa’s for students. This is the sole responsibility of the parents.

1) Based on an understanding of the student and family requirements selects a number of potential schools from which six are selected for application.

2) Requests confirmation of a vacancy for the relevant grade from the six schools selected (1 above).

3) Upon confirmation of a vacancy, magman completes all necessary paperwork including:

a) Translating of all necessary Chinese documentation into English.

b) Completion of all required forms, applications and supporting materials.

c) Lodging all forms pertaining to b) above to relevant schools.

d) Liaising with all schools so as to ensure prompt responses to lodged documentation

e) Organizing assessment and interview dates and related itineraries.

f) In regard to assessment tests, magman endeavors to host the exam in magman’s head office as opposed to in the target school.

g) Keeping the family informed of all communications with the target schools.

Foreign School Placement Program外国择校服务

我们基于学生的能力与学校的匹配情况来为学生选择最好的外国学校就

读,我们以学生的学业成功为己任,而非为了从中谋取利益。

简介:

magman不是一个学校中介,我们的主要职责是地把学生、家长、以及外

国学校联系起来。作为一个非学校中介,我们是不会向外国学校收取佣金

的。

magman在中国有着超过十年的教育经验。其中包括了帮助学生申请就读外

国学校。与magman合作的外国学校都可以在以英语为母语的国家中找到。

外国主流的中学教育一般分为三类学校:

一类学校:具有最高的教育造诣以及文化氛围的长青藤学校。

二类学校:仅次于一类学校优质学校。

三类学校:这是普通的学校,也是大部分学校中介所推荐的学校。因为这

些学校可以通过支付佣金的方式来招收学生。

magman只与一类学校和二类学校打交道。二类学校中较好的学校一般不会

通过中介进行招生,因为他们与一类学校一样,不会支付中介的佣金。而

且,这些学校对入学者的申请审批时间会很长,因此大部分中介对此无法

估算。

选择哪里的学校,在什么时候申请,为什么要选择外国学校,以及怎样挑

选学校 ….. 针对这些疑问,magman专门撰写了一本择校指南,为学生与

家长在选择外国中学和高中进行指引,详细地列出在择校中的重要信息。

这本小册子是免费赠予magman家长的。

建议: 为了正确与准确地为学生提供入学建议,magman需要对学生进行

测试。随后,我们与家长见面会谈,整理出学生的简历,并根据他们的能

力与学校进行匹配。(其它学校中介则是反过来,拿着学校的资料找学生

的)。当找到适合学生的学校时,magman将会协助学生与家长以最有效的

方式申请学位。

申请: 为了简化申请程序,magman会提供清单,列出申请学校所需的相关

试’。如果你希望自己的孩子能够在众多

的外国学生所参与的考试中脱颖而出并获取入读优秀学校的机会,那么为

考试作好充分准备是至关重要的。

联系: 当学生获得学校录取的时候,magman会继续与学校和学生保持联

系,并跟进学生在新学校的学习进程。

签证: magman 不能提供学生签证服务,这是家长独自承担的责任。

我们向第(1)步骤中精选出来的六所学校发函咨询是否有学位。

我们收到学校的确认后,将准备以下材料:

把所有所需的中文材料翻译成英文

完整填写所有的表格、申请表以及相关材料

把所有(b)中提到的材料整理好,提交给相关的学校

与学校保持联系,以便尽快确知所提交材料的审阅进程

安排评估与面试日期以及相关日程

关于评估测试,magman尽可能安排在自己总部而不是在申请学校进行

把与学校的联系的情况及时通知家长

Interview Preparation Program面试准备课程

The magman Interview Preparation Program is a five hour a day, five days a week monthly immersion program designed to develop the skills necessary to maximise the opportunity conferred by the school interview, in addition to develop skills in English reading, writing, speaking, mathematics vocabulary familization with Verbal Reasoning Testing; all skills required to perform well in both the interview and the Assessment and Entrance Exams for foreign Tier 1 and Tier 2 schools.

magman的面试准备课程为每天五小时,每周五天的全月封闭课程。该课程通过培训学生面试所必备的能力来让他们在学校的面试中得到最好的发挥;同时提高学生在英语阅读、写作、口语、熟悉数学词汇与口头分析考试方面的能力,让他们在一类与二类学校的面试和入学考试中取得优秀的成绩。

A weekly timetable (see the sample timetable at the end of this section) is provided and will be adjusted as required to suit the student’s needs plus weekly reports to parents, of their child’s progress.

The school interview, either face to face or via Skype, is the ultimate determiner of acceptance into the target school. A student who has a great academic, social and athletic history in China may lose out because of a poor interview; conversely, a student that has a less than an ideal history may, in the interview, exemplify a trait that appeals to the interviewer.

学校的面试,有面对面的,也有通过skype的,这是学生是否可以考取目标学校的关键。有的学生即使在国内的德智体方面都非常不错,但也会因为面试原因而落败。 相反,如果学生的在校表现并不是非常优秀,但他在面试中的出色表现也会给他带来机会。

Warning! A school that waives the necessity of an interview is a school that is more concerned about making money from the student than about the student’s academic and social welfare.

当心!如果学校没有设置入学所必需的面试,那么很可能这间学校更注重从学生那里获得经济利益,而不是注重学生的学业和能力优势。

How important is the school-interview?

Very important! It is important to recognize that each school has its own evaluation system leading to an interview and then to acceptance. Although admission committees strive to be as equitable and objective as possible, interview presentation is critical. Applicants will be confronted with different types of interviews and these interviews will be weighted differently in the overall evaluation by each school.

Although Chinese students generally perform well in mathematics, it is not the mechanics of maths or science which can hinder a students progress through the assessment process, but a lack of knowledge in mathematics and science English vocabulary. At magman we strive to improve and increase the students knowledge and understanding, which in turn promotes excellence in the assesssment performance.

虽然中国学生在多数情况下数学都不错,但在入学考试中往往不是数学或者理科能力,而是缺乏这方面的专业英语词汇而让学生在考试中吃亏。magman将尽力帮助学生去提高他们在这方面的理解能力,使他们在评估中表现出众。

In addition to English, Mathematics and Science, foreign school’s Assessment Tests and Entrance Exams often include a test in Verbal Reasoning, our course will familise the student with Verbal Reasoning and prepare the student for any future tests.

除了英语、数学和自然科学,外国学校的入学考试通常还有一门科目:口头分析。通过我们的培训课程,学生将对口头分析有一定的了解,并为日后的考试做好准备。

Verbal reasoning is understanding and reasoning using concepts framed in words. It aims at evaluating the ability to think constructively, rather than at simple fluency or vocabulary recognition.

In general, the purpose of the interview is to assess the applicant’s personal characteristics. The most common characteristics foreign schools are looking for are:

Transition ProgramPurpose and Aims

The principal purpose of the magman Transition Program is to maximize the success potential of your child once they arrive in their selected foreign school and that school’s culture. The magman Transition Program recognizes the huge academic and cultural challenges that young Chinese (Asian) students confront in their foreign education adventure; the magman Transition Program empowers the Chinese boys and girls with the skills necessary to succeed.

ACADEMIC: The more rapidly that a student can be class room acclimatized in all subjects, the more quickly they will reap the benefits of their foreign education and achieve a standard of high academic and personal excellence. The most common scenario for a young Chinese heading overseas is that prior to enrollment they undergo a local ESL program and/or take part in an English summer camp; alternatively, the school they are enrolling in may provide an ESL program for them. Prolonged ESL studies in isolation of the core subjects to be studied in their mainstream education like math’s, history, science etc., is demotivating, confidence sapping, and from a student’s perspective, a waste of time. The ESL or English summer camp is unable to arm the student with the vocabulary, logical thinking, and academic skills that are vital to their success in their destination country and school.

The magman Transition Program positively reacts to the greatest challenge that ALL Chinese students face… vocabulary; specifically, it’s application. In order to put the necessary vocabulary into the context of it’s relevant subject, magman, in cooperation with the destination school, not only enhances and prepares the student with the necessary vocabulary; but just as importantly, magman provides a good grounding in those core subjects about to be studied, facilitating a smooth transition into the class-room.

In addition to “academic preparedness”, magman prepares and coaches your child in the critical skills that are vital ingredients for success in the foreign school of choice; techniques which are alien to Chinese schooling. The western education concepts of independence, self-management and autonomy in study are key attributes for your child to master in order to excel, not just in middle and high school, but in university as well.

CULTURE: One of the prime reasons why many Chinese/Asian students fail is attributed to a cultural ignorance of the destination country. The alien nature of the country of foreign study, results in many, if not all Chinese students seeking out their Chinese peers and creating an artificial cultural Chinese raft in an unknown foreign sea as a comfort zone for themselves. The quasi-Chinese environment that most Chinese students create, seek out and hide in is one in which English is all but ignored and one in which a China-town mentality emerges and flourishes. In insulating themselves in their Chinese-world in the destination country and school, any good that an expensive foreign education may achieve is diluted to the point of ineffectiveness. Basic to any academic success is having the confidence to live and perform in the chosen society; having the confidence to ask for help and realizing that in western society, seeking help is considered an attribute, not a negative.

Your child must be imbued with the confidence and inner-fortitude to resist negative and counter-productive approaches from those less fortunate Asian (Chinese) students that lack the benefit of the magman Transition Program. magman will give your child the knowledge, confidence and skills they will require to gain the respect of his/her foreign peers, teachers and citizens alike, in the face of the pressure applied by your child’s Chinese/Asian classmates, by insisting on utilizing English in and out of the classroom; as well, respecting and learning from that countries native culture.

Purpose and Aims海外晋级课程

目的与宗旨

magman海外晋级课程旨在让您的孩子将来在他们所选定的外国学校学

习时更好地发挥自己的潜力并取得成功,同时更好地适应当地的学校文

化。magman的海外晋级课程的创办人深深地意识到:很多的中国(亚洲)

年轻学生在国外学习的时候,将会遇到学习上的困境,magman海外晋级课

程正是针对这方面的问题,让男女学生在留学前作好充分的准备,并在将

来的学习中获得最大的成功。

学术:学生在留学期间如果可以更快地适应所有的教学科目,那么他们就

生在留学前,一般是先参加当地的ESL课程以及/或者参加英语夏令营;而

Transition Humanities.

The study of Humanities and the methods employed in teaching practice in the West are entirely different to that employed in China. Asian students and in particular, Chinese students are not generally well prepared to embrace the requirements that foreign schools demand.

Transition to Humanities as conducted by magman, is predicated on the premise that the teaching of English as applied to such disciplines is imperative to allowing the foreign student to successfully transition into foreign school curricula.

Without a considered and comprehensive preparation program to cope with the demands that the English language places upon students, let alone the methods and the skills required to evaluate, to understand, to research and to logically present, Chinese students invariably fail to perform to the demands of the subject requirements.

The disciplines will be presented in a manner that rigorously reinforces the language applicable to that discipline.

Transition Science and Mathematics.

It is an accepted and documented fact that Chinese students are well prepared to embrace the Math’s and Science disciplines that foreign schools demand.In fact, it is an area they excel.

The primary cause of disappointing results in Science and Math’s is normally not a problem with the mechanics of the subjects but with the English vocabulary. The magman Transition Program understands the vocabulary challenge and addresses it by implementing an intensive vocabulary regime.

Transition to Math’s and Science as conducted by magman, is entirely predicated on the premise that that teaching of English terminology as applied to both Science and Math’s is imperative to allowing the foreign student a satisfactory path to successfully transition into foreign school curricula.

An introduction to:Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Algebra, and General Math’s; with required English terminology will be undertaken, specifically under guidelines established after consultation with participating foreign schools.

Culture & Communication Course.

This course is designed to prepare the foreign student for the “culture-shock” of living and studying in the foreign country of their choice. The cultural challenges that confront students are divided into two areas:

Educational and Living.

Research: Instruction for the student on both Internet and library research. This course requires a student to undertake research projects and document reference sources, as is done in foreign schools.

Note Taking: Critical for foreign school success, students are instructed on effective note taking techniques from text and oral (teacher) sources. As well as taking the notes, we instruct the student how to prioritize and place notes into a meaningful format, including indexing.

Autonomy: Students are continually being challenged to develop and exercise their autonomy via the assigning of exercises in all subjects. All Transition courses will be taught in a student centered environment with the emphasis being placed on students taking responsibility for their own academic development.

Questioning: To question is to learn. Once a student realizes asking questions is a face-gaining activity, the fears of showing ignorance by asking questions will dissolve. Questioning will be encouraged as a learning vehicle.

Peer Behavior: Students will be placed into carefully designed role-play scenarios that illustrate the correct methods of dealing with positive and negative situations they may confront in their schools. Chinese students will be encouraged to determine correct and acceptable behaviour and to respond accordingly.

Cross-Cultural Communication: As an important element in the Program our Chinese students will be well versed in a large variety of foreign cultural situations and correct responses to these.

Whole Year Performance: magman will introduce a “whole year performance” measuring criteria.

Life skills: This ingredient in the Transition Program is “hands on” for the student. Students will be instructed on survival; how to wash and iron clothes, how to make a delicious sandwich, how to catch a bus, etc. Students will be coached in good citizenship and closely monitored to ensure that they put into practice what they are taught.

献参考资料。

课堂笔记:这是学生在外国学习取得成功的关键。我们将教导学生如何从老师的

文本和口头讲述中做好笔记。除了做好课堂笔记之外,我们还教会学生如何通过

整理笔记和索引,来提高其学习效率。

自主学习:学生通过应对来自不同科目的功课挑战,来提高和培养他们自主安排

学习的能力。所有的海外留学晋级课程将会以学生为中心,让他们来安排自己的

学习计划,并承担取得学习进步的责任。

提问能力:懂得提问才能有效地学习。学生只有意识到提问其实是一个很有面子

的事情,他们才不会惧怕向别人提问时会被认为是无知的错误观念。在该课程

中,提问将被视为学习的载体,而老师也将不断地鼓励学生进行提问。

同伴行为:我们将对学生进行角色分配,通过情景交流来演示他们在外国留学生

活中将面对的各种正面和负面的状况,并向他们展示正确的处理方法。我们将鼓

励中国学生去做出正确的令人接受的处事方式,以及对此作出回应。

跨文化交流:作为这个课程中的一个重要元素,我们的中国学生将在复杂的外国

文化背景中得到锻炼,并作出正确的应对。

全年表现评估:magman将会引入“全年表现评估”体系。
