VibeA medium-close up shot is used as the picture for Michael Jackson. It shows his head, his shoulders and his iconic glove. This shot is used because the reader will notice who it is more easily and it has far more class.

The masthead is conventionally at the top of the magazine. This shows us that ‘’Vibe’’ wants to have the same page layout on every cover to make sure that once bought their cover is recognisable amongst the competition

The mastheads colour is changed issue by issue for a number of reasons. It is so it gives the magazine cover variation but at the same time is the same as every other cover. It also means that readers will be able to recognise the new issue better because the picture itself may not do it straight away. Whereas with a new colour in the title it makes the reader takes a second thought on whether or not to buy it.

QThe logo is conventionally in the top left corner and is always red. This is so passing readers will catch a glimpse of the red title and instantly recognise it.

The artists used in on the cover are all very popular people right now. In the past all of the magazine covers have has pictures of artists famous at the time of the magazines publish. This is an effective technique to draw the reader in and learn more about today's superstars. visual proof of this is the splash ‘exciting people.’

The shot used is a long shot to show the different genres of which each artist is involved. They are also dressed to show the reader what type of music they produce. This is another vital technique which shows how popular the magazine cover is, it attracts all manor of music fans and has the confidence to mix different genres

Another splash is the 10 exclusive interviews with other stars, exclusive is slightly bigger to emphasise the importance and speciality of the

interviews.

Each artist on the cover has their own splash and quote acting as an ‘icebreaking’ line. This is to give the reader some idea of the content inside and what they say in the interviews.

NME

The subheading is larger than the masthead. This is unconventional for magazines, but mostly NME magazines have a larger subheadings than mastheads because they feel confident that once looked at by the reader, they will recognise that the magazine they have picked up is NME.

A free piece of merchandise is advertised as a way of further encouraging someone to buy the magazine. Especially fans of the artist, in this case Muse. Additionally the smaller red splash below boasts winning a signed jacket by oasis, this is further encouragement to buy the magazine. Additionally ‘Win’ is in higher case to emphasize the splash

The shot used is a medium long-shot. This is so the huge sub-heading doesn't cover their faces along with the other splashes which could cover their faces.

The splash is placed by a band members head so attention will be paid to it, readers look at peoples faces so placing an almost skin coloured splash by someone's head will be recognised

The masthead is written in bold upper-case letters to get readers attention when the page is open. It additionally in a few tells the reader what the page is about.

A long shot is used to capture the whole of green day bodies. This is to show off things like clothes (to show what their current fashion is) and body language. In this image especially, one band member looks like he is about to do something and its as if the person behind is stopping him, this could also be to portray the rebellious nature of Green Day

The NME logo is just visible in the top left hand corner, another conventional theme in

the magazine.

Q Contents PageThe magazine logo is in the top left hand corner which is conventional for the magazine.

On the left hand side of the magazine is a features column highlighting the ‘best’ parts of the magazine, they talk about the main points in the magazine so people clearly understand what the magazine is about.

The shot used is a long shot so the photographer can capture the band and the background. They could be standing on top of the hill as a metaphor. Its alternative meaning could be that they are on top and popular.

The review at the bottom of the page is about the music that has come out and the magazine has chosen the best and worst and given their opinion on them as a way of identifying the best music in their genre.

NME Double Page Spread

The interview title is a quote from Lilly Allen which is informing the reader of her opinion and feelings. The title is so large because this is the part of the page the designers want readers to see first.

The title looks like cut out letters from different places to portray an anarchists work.

The large picture additionally is a technique letting the reader know what the article is about

In the bottom corners there is the logo by the page number, this is a conventional method to keep the they readers in mindset that they are reading the magazine.

The space behind Adam Clayton is lit up by studio lights. This is almost a metaphor for hi being photographed as if to say that he is an important star at the moment boosting his image.

Paragraphs are highlighted in red to start a new point to the story. They are also used to keep the reader entertained.

The main storyline is a short paragraph telling the reader the situation when he came for the interview.
