One technique that I plan on using in my magazine is to give away free items with some issues of the magazine for example a free CD or a poster. This is often done by a lot of music magazines as it entices people to buy the magazine that would not usually, this could help grow the audience by creating return customers. A lot of people would not see magazines as something that is worth their price but with a free CD they would be a lot more willing to purchase it. In mixmag they have a small arrow that stands out stating that there is a free mix CD, the arrow is bold and stands out as it is the main feature that is selling the magazine.

PUGS Another technique that I am planning on using in my magazine are pugs, a pug is a small shape that is different to the front cover or page background that stands out to draw in the audiences attention to a particular subject. The pug is usually there to show a feature of the magazine. The pug on the contents page usually contains a cover line from the front page this is done because this is one of the biggest stories in the magazine.

Big double page spread big pictureOn my double page spread one of the pages will just be a image that fills the page. The image will be on its own or it will have a small piece of writing on like the example I have used on the right. The reason I would like to lay my double page spread out like this is it would take up most the page making it bold and stand out drawing in the audience. If I had this design I would need to be using a very powerful main image or it wouldn’t work.
