Over the centuries and since the beginning of time, communication has always been linked to humankind development. Due to the constant changes and advances in written and oral language, today´s world has become a challenge when we need to express or thoughts, ideas and feelings on pa-per. Gutenberg Schule aware of the necessity to help its students communicate through written language offers the best resources when it comes to second language study. Books, articles, internet publications, and mini projects are some of the strategies used to teach students the correct use of written language. During this first half of the school year, students of eighth and ninth grade have developed different types of texts that have contributed to their writing skills, helping them learn different techniques and to understand the importance of correct text writing and spelling. This first number is dedicated to all those students whose effort has made this publication possible.
Thank you for your contribution, for the many hours of preparing, brainstorming, writing, checking. editing and rewriting texts, for all the time dedicated so that this magazine would be possible. It has been a great honor to work with such amazing children and to see how all their effort is now a reality.

The power of words
helped our ancestors to pro-gress, step by steady step. And yet there was a strict restraint — the limits of hu-man memory. Even the most incisive mind can re-member only so much, and
when that knowledge is passed on to successive generations there is always leakage.
In the passage of time, what once had been facts became fables, ideas blured and merged, names
and places changed into myths.
Words are powerful, but time is long and memory is frail.

Did you know
that Egyptians used
make-up not only to en-
hance their beauty but
also to keep the flies
away? And that to cure a
sick baby the mother
would some times have to
eat a mouse?
Well, these and other interesting
Facts were exposed by 8th grade “S” and “G”.
Here are some of those Facts for you to read and learn.
During harvest time the landowners would hire musi-
cians to play and keep the peasants entertained. Many
professional musicians were blind.
Camels were never used as a way of transportation.
Mummies were buried facing east so they could see the
sun rise.
Egyptians thought the intelligence was in the heart and
did not pay much attention to the brain. These are only
some of the curious facts about Egyptian life. We hope
that you have learnt something new and next time when
Halloween is probably one
of the most fun celebrations held in
the United States, and also a good
excuse to write a Spooky Story ,
just like the one done by María José
Jimenez from the 9th grade “G”.
Ready to feel scared !!!!

Learning a language is also learning a culture.
So, why not learn about other cultures and countries
around the world?
Making brochures of different countries, their
touristic sites, the important places and history, is
always fun and a different way to learn about places
we have visited, or would like to visit some day.
Check out this brochure done by Maria Paula
Arrellano form the 8th grade “S” about France.
I am sure that it will make you want to visit this
romantic country.

Studying Social THEMES
can help us learn a lot about our
ancestors and believes.
One the strongest mythical believes
is those of the Greek Gods.
Greek Mythology is perhaps one of
the most interesting topics of all
times and students have discovered
this through the study of the Gods.
Some even identified themselves
the most beautiful Goddesses
in Greek mythology.
