because one day a.tipico left the house, bought a

paper, started to read and didn’t like what it read.

So a.tipico thought: I’ll produce a paper and only

include things that I like in it. And so, mA is an

inspirational concept: reading should be a joy,

learning as you leaf through. So there we have it:

mA magazine! packed full of all the most beauti-

ful things you can imagine, heralding a new style,

a change in perspective, moving away from the

mundane in an act of defiance displayed in pages,

images, stories, recollections and glimpses into the

future. mA lives by its motto: better to be sur-

prised than disappointed. So, would like to

welcome you to the first edition of the zero series!

We like to be easily distracted around: I look around, what am I thinking? I don’t know and, without knowing why, I find myself face down on the carpet.

The cat purrs softly; it’s ideal for sharpening claws. I’m still a bit bewildered. Finally I get my thoughts together: what will win over: my indecision or the Nordic? There’s no doubt in my mind, it’s got to be Wales - a 70s classic revisited.

Around. a.tipico carpets come in many styles, each of them quite different but all sharing something in common. be cool, mi disse. Siediti, rilassati. Avevo gli occhi pieni dei suoi colori: amava il jazz, suonava il blues, sapeva apprezzare lo swing, mangiava jam nel suo loft con lo sguardo un po’ lounge. All’improvviso: dune all’orizzonte! E non eravamo nemmeno nel deserto…

A Milano, il 16 giugno 2010, dalle ore 10.00 alle 19.00, presso il locale Polpetta Doc, in via Eustachi 8, a.tipico ha invitato la stampa per presentare la nuova collezione Crudo: ceramica bianca, terra nera, vetro. Di Cotte e di Crude il titolo dell’iniziativa, che ha visto scendere in campo lo chef del locale per servire uno stuzzicante menu a base di specialità estive, fresche e sfiziose. Interessante il senso del nome della collezione interamente realizzata a mano: forza del fuoco invisibile cuoce la materia, ma lascia crudo e intatto il suo significato. Così, per accompagnare sui tavoli del locale cibi e bevande, ecco piatti, ciotole, vassoi, recipienti, bicchieri, bottiglie in diverse combinazioni di forme, colori, dimensioni. Giochi lineari e un design perfetto coordinato all’eleganza di un appetito garbato e curioso.

On 16th June 2010, in Milan at Polpetta Doc on Via Eustachi 8, from 10 in the morning until 7 in the evening, a.tipico invited the press to the launch of the new Crudo collection: white clay, black earth and glass. We called the event Di Cotte e di Crude and had the chef of the eatery take to the floor to serve an appetizing menu of seasonal, fresh and tasty summer specialities. This collection, handmade from start to finish, has an interesting aspect behind its name: the invisible force of fire bakes the material, yet leaves its essence raw and intact. So here, as the perfect accompaniment to the food and drink laid on by the bar, we have plates, bowls, trays, containers, glasses and bottles in various shapes, colours and sizes. Playful lines and considered design in perfect harmony with a stylish, pleasant and unique eating experience. crudo is the fruit of research and design work carried out by a team of cosmopolitan designers: Barbara Busatta, Dario Buzzini, Robin Bigio, Martin Maier and Oliviero Zanon - industrial designers of the moment. By fusing materials and forms they have created an exclusive concept in the preparation and presentation of food and drink. Ceramics, porcelain, glass and terracotta are assembled together to dress the most contemporary tables. Exclusive to a.tipico.

Zeus fece dono a Pandora di un bel vaso, raccomandandole di non aprirlo perché il suo

contenuto segreto mai avrebbe dovuto essere rivelato. Pandora, che era curiosa, non resi-

stette e lo scoperchiò. Da esso, veloci come fulmini corsero sulla terra tutti i mali che Zeus vi

aveva riposto: l’unico dono buono che il dio aveva posto nel vaso, rimase incastrato sotto il

coperchio che subito Pandora aveva richiuso spaventata. Era la speranza. Prima di questo

momento l’umanità aveva vissuto libera da mali, fatiche e preoccupazioni, e gli uomini

erano immortali. Dopo l’apertura del vaso il mondo divenne un luogo desolato e inospitale

finché Pandora lo aprì nuovamente per far uscire anche la speranza!

Zeus gave Pandora a beautiful box, which she was told never to open as the secrets contained inside were never to be revealed. Pandora, who was given the gift of curiosity by Hermes, could not resist temptation and opened it. All the evil on earth, which Zeus had locked away, shot out of the box like lightning: the gift of hope – the only good thing that Zeus had put inside – was left trapped under the cover which Pandora had shut tight in a panic. Before this time, mankind had lived free from evil, from struggles and from worries of any kind and, like the gods, hu-mans were immortal. Once the box was opened the world became a desolate and inhospitable place, until Pandora opened it again to let hope out.

Today, the expression “Pandora’s Box” is used metaphorically to refer to a problem or series of problems which occur suddenly having been hidden for many years and that once uncovered can no longer be concealed.

Oggi l’espressione “Vaso di Pandora” viene usata metaforicamente per alludere all’improvvisa scoperta di un problema o una serie di problemi che per molto tempo erano rimasti nascosti e che una volta svelati non è più possibile tornare a celare.

La nostra è tutta un’altra storia…Pandora è un vaso di bamboo, bellissimo, già aperto, pieno di tutti i beni e le cose belle del mondo.E non c’è niente da nascondere!

Our’s is quite a different story...Our Pandora is a beautiful bamboo vase, which is already open and filled with all the beautiful and lovely things in the world. And there’s nothing to hide!

Samurai stava un po’ rigidosul chi va là, di cos’altro verrà riempita la sua geometrica capienza? Vediamo un po’: un origami, una confezione di sushi take-away freschissimo, due bacchette per mangiarlo, una bottiglietta di sakè, uno yukata ben ripiegato, un rotolo di carta di riso. Finalmente sorride e forse arrossisce.

Sono gesti che non si fanno più. Adesso ringraziare è più difficile, certi cerimoniali non vanno più di moda. Dì quello che vuoi, io lo trovo irresistibile, così galante...These are long-forgotten gestures. Nowadays, it’s not so easy to say thank you, there are so many rituals which are no longer used. Say what you will, but I find it quite charming, and really rather noble…

Le idee per le ricette hanno bisogno di movimenti fluidi, larghi, coreografici: è parte del gusto.Lo spazio conviviale è anche quello della conversazione, dell’incontro dopo il lavoro. Space is always a welcome feature in kitchens. Recipe ideas call for fluid, generous and choreographed movements: it adds to the taste.
