Magazine analysis

What works?

Front Cover:I think my lead image works as it relates the lead line and also the model is

the same age as the audience who it is aimed at. I also think the name of my masthead works well as it shows that the

magazine is made by the students and it’s their decision what articles are used.

The red circular Flash box in the bottom right hand corner works well as it really stands out and it will be one of the first thing the reader will see on the cover.

What works?

Contents page: The two columns work well as it gives the contents page a

professional look about it.

What doesn’t

Front cover:I don’t think the text colour works as it is hard to make out

against the models clothing.

Contents: I think the picture at the bottom right hand corner doesn’t look right as it looks out of place.

What was difficult?

Front Cover:I found finding the right text type for my

masthead difficult as to begin with I didn’t know what type of magazine I wanted it to be.

Contents:Trying to fill the majority of the “white space”

What was easy?

Front cover:The easiest thing was positioning the layout like

the masthead, the lead image, the cover lines and the flash box.

Contents page:The positioning of the page

What have I learnt?

• I have learnt how to layout a magazine and use certain text types and colour schemes to reflect the type of magazine that it is.I’ve also learnt I need to think about my house style before I make a start on my magazine.

If I had all the money in the world what would I change?

I would hire well known models and use a higher quality camera to take my photos with.

I would hire a graphic designer to help with the front cover and the contents page to improve it’s quality.

Magazines to compare to

Lucky magazine is similar asthe models photo is a medium close up like the one I took of my model.It also has a colour scheme like mine.
