bassist/ singer ICS Vortex, as well as Tjodalv leaving (due to his family commitments, and to form the subsequent band Susperia), only to be replaced with Nicholas Barker, Astennu was fired from his guitar duties as well due to in-compatibility (reportedly, he was speaking ill of the band behind their backs and wanted them to be a Morbid An-gel cover band). Dimmu Borgir’s newest album, In Sorte Diaboli, was released April 24, 2007. This album features the drumming of Hellhammer of Mayhem, who had to leave the band in mid tour in 2007 because of a neck injury, resulting in limited movement of his right arm. With the release of this album, Dimmu Borgir became the first black metal band with a number one album in their native country.

NEW ALBUM, WORLD TOUR AND A NEW ROAD TO FAME. Dimmu Borgir started as a melodic black metal band in

1993. Formed by Shagrath, Silenoz, and Tjodalv, the band released an EP in 1994 entitled “Inn i evighetens mørke” (“Into the Darkness of Eternity” in English). This album featured musical contributions by members of Dødheims-gard and Ved Buens Ende. The initial lineup consisted of Shagrath playing guitar with Tjodalv on drums and Silenoz backing vocals, however this changed before the release of Stormblåst (translates to “Storm Blown”) on Cacophonous Records in 1996. It is also the last album which features all lyrics written and sung in Norwegian. After Stormblåst,

Dimmu Borgir’s lineup took a turn. Keyboardist Stian Aarstad left the band due to his obligation to serve in the Norwegian army, thus being unable to participate in the

1996 recording of Devil’s Path. Stian Aarstad returned for the recording of 1997’s Enthrone Darkness Trium-phant. While on tour to support the album, he had trouble attending re-hearsals and being on tour, and was subsequently fired. Enthrone Dark-

ness Triumphant was a huge success for the band, and was their first release signed to Nuclear Blast, a well-known Ger man record label. After the tour for Enthrone Dark-ness Triumphant, the band recruited new members Mustis on keyboards and Astennu on lead guitar. Dimmu Borgir’s following albums Spiritual Black Dimensions in 1999 and 2001’s Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia, both met criti-cal acclaim. The band made new changes including

Six Feet Under have had ups and downs in their musical direction. After they did the graveyard classics ACDC thing I kind of gave up on them and figured that Chris Barnes was just fading away into re-dundant lameness. Now with Commandment, Six Feet Under prove that they are far from washed up and still have plenty of Deathmetal in them. Sick low growling vocals and thick chunky pure old school DEATH metal riffing. Commandmemnt is an excellent solid Death-metal release If you like Six Feet Uunder, BUY OR DIE!!!

This may the most violent black metal band ever to grace the scene. This album is wonderfully done, great (unblackmetal-like) production, and great songwritting. Kinda of like darkthrone enhanced w/ keys and fx. Carpathian Forest may be my new favorite black metal group The songs here are wicked, morbid, unholy, devastating, and just unbelivable!!! If you say you like true black metal and don’t have this album I strongly suggest that you get it. YOU WONT BE DISSAPOINTED!!!

This album is a milestone for death metal and is probably the greatest effort by Morbid Angel. The guitars a little bit soft on this CD and the solos are weak as far as sound is but it still displays the guitar work of master Trey Azagthoth. David Vincent’s vocals sound very demonic and raspy growling in this CD compared to his more grave and deeper vocals which would be features in the next three records by Morbid Angel. All the songs on this CD are pure mayhem and speed up so fast and the blast beating is incredible! This is definitelty a must have for death metal fans.

And I thought that Enslaved had become absolute masters of their collective fate and destiny with the release of “Isa”, then comes “Vertebrae”. No one else can claim the title of “Black Progressive Metal” like Enslaved. Mind boggling good stuff! The songs are very much laid back and they lack the agression of Ruun which suprised me because I really liked that direction. But this is no way a step backwards! The songs are forged with masterful writting skills.
