Video AnalysisIn this presentation we will be portraying the skills that we have

picked up, whilst analyzing music videos.

Madonna’s – Like A Prayer

Lyrics – Whilst listening to the lyrics we could hear that they have words which resemble a sexual manner or is it being portrayed in religious manner . For Example;

‘Life's is a mystery, everyone must stand alone, I hear you call my name, And it feels like home.’ – This shows that she is standing alone and portrays a sad emotion.

When you call my name like a little prayer, I’m down on my knees. – this portrays a double meaning in one, e.g. it could stand for a religious manner or it could stand for a very sexual manner.

Watching the music video, loads of mortifies where being played and directed in the music video, For example; Fragmentation Impossible sequence Ritual Celebration Post apocalyptic Sexual Objectification Break in the narrative

Fragmentation Fragmentation: Section of the video which is

being highlighted an scrutinized and emphasized, for example,

Fragmentation was portrayed through the burning cross which mainly focuses on it and causes a lot of controversy.

Impossible Sequence Impossible sequence – slow motion burning

items, this is also controversial as the cross is being portrayed in a devilish way.

Ritual Celebration Ritual Celebration – portrays a meaningful

celebration. In Madonna like a prayer, the black people are

very happy, and celebrating however the white artist “should” be happy usually, however she is domestic, through what is going on in the video, .

Post apocalyptic Post apocalyptic – shows the seen as hell or the

end of the world, in this video it is controversial because it is being depicted near and inside a church.

Sexual Objectification Sexual Objectification – she is being portrayed in

a sexual manner and wearing barely any clothes, in a church, this is very controversial as she is selling herself for sex in the church.

Break in Narrative Break in the narrative –she breaks from the

narrative as if she has woken up which gives an excuse for the controversy. And also at the end the curtains go down which can also create an excuse for what has happened for example it’s a show, its nothing serious, but is it?...
