Yes. You CAN lower your workers compensation!Your Madison County Chamber of Commerce is the sponsor of our local Bureau of Wokers Compen-sation’s Safety Council program.

Through this program, participating businesses not only gain invaluable knowledge about how to keep their employees safe, but they also can lower their BWC premiums with a 2 to 4% rebate by attending 10 monthly Safety Council lunches and completing some safety related reports. Companies of all sizes save thousands of dollars each year.

If your business is in need of some BWC relief, sign up for the Safety Council by contacting Jessica Lane at 740-852-2250.

TARGET SELECTS WEST JEFFERSON FOR COLD FOOD DISTRIBUTION

By Sean Hughes

The Madison County Future, Inc. Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) and the Village of West Jefferson, Ohio are pleased to announce Target Corporation is expanding its West Jefferson State Route 29 Logistics Corridor operations with a new cold food storage distribution facility.

Target intends to construct a new 450,000 sq. ft. refrigerated and highly automated facility to serve the as a perishable food distribution center for approximately 370 stores in Ohio and the surrounding States. It will add up to an additional 150 new jobs to the State Route 29 Logistics Corridor.

“I am very pleased that Target’s new food distribution center will be joining our West Jefferson SR29 Logistics Corridor. The original Target Distribution Center has been a wonder-ful neighbor for many years now,” said West Jefferson Village Mayor Darlene Steele. “This $103 million investment into our commercial park along with the 150 new jobs that it will bring will be very welcomed into the village.”

The CIC and the Village of West Jefferson competed with sites in Indiana and Pennsylvania

for the new distribution center.

“We began this project in September of 2010,” said Sean Hughes, Executive Di-rector and Economic Development Direc-

tor for the Madison County Future, Inc. CIC.

“This is a unique facility, so Target was very careful

about where they placed it.”

The CIC and village negotiated a Tax Increment Financing Agreement and a Community Reinvestment Area real property tax incentive agreement with the company to keep the project from going to the other states.

“The state of Ohio, our state representative and state senator worked very well with our CIC and the village to win this project,” said Hughes.

“I could not be more please to once again see additional jobs coming to our area,” State Representative Bob Hackett stated. “I would like to thank Sean and the CIC for all of their efforts and will continue to work with them in an effort to bring even more growth to our region.”

With this project the CIC has been successful in attracting or retaining nearly 3,000 jobs since 2007 ranking our county as one of the top net job creation counties in the state.

“Madison County Future, Inc. has quickly established itself as an economic development leader in the state,” said Dusty Parker, Presi-dent of the CIC Board of Directors. “The new Target facility is a prime example how we not only attract new employers here, but also of how we keep them happy and allow them to grow in our county.”

The Fisher Farm, Madison County Agricultural HeritageBy Jessica Lane The Fisher Farm is a unique part of the county that has evolved over the years. The Fisher’s bought the farm in the 1960’s as a bull feed farm, which then turned into a dairy farm in the 1980’s, and now is a farm where everything is produced naturally.

Derrick and Elisha Fisher moved to the county in 2008 after they met at The Ohio State University where they both received a Bachelor’s Degree in Live Stock Sci-ence. Derrick has lived in Madison County his whole life and is a third generation farmer at the Fisher farm. Elisha moved here from Hancock County to go to school, and they made the joint deci-sion to start their fam-ily in Madison County. They got married in 2009 and now have a one-year-old daughter, Kenley.

“We love the simple way of life, and are very excited to have the opportunity to raise our young daughter Kenley on the family farm,” said Elisha Fisher.

So, how does the Fisher Farm make a unique impact on the Madison County community?

The Fisher Farm is located at 8770 ST RT 38 SW in London, Ohio and is dedicated to produc-ing wheat, soy beans, oats, hay and pasture cutlery- but here’s the twist. All of the products produced on the farm are 100% natural. This means they grow all natural heirloom tomatoes, vegetables, and fruits as well as raise “grass fed” animals, which means no preservatives or hormones are given to the animals in their upbring-ing. Also, they raise “free range” hens that are kept in an electric netting to keep away predators. Each animal is born and raised on the farm to regulate their diet.

“Our country’s desire for convenience has led to more and more processed food and preservatives. Our products may take longer to prepare than a more convenient product from the grocery store, but you can be as-sured that it is healthy, safe and beneficial to the environment,” said Fisher.

If you are interested in learning more about the Fisher Farm, you can visit them at the London and Plain City Farmer’s Markets from May-October where they will be selling sweet corn, fresh lettuce, eggs and other varieties of foods. Also, the Fishers welcome anyone that may be interested to visit the farm and see how they run their farm on a daily basis, or purchase any of the delicious foods if you missed the Farmer’s Markets. Make sure to take some time out of your day to stop over and see what makes them one of many unique families in Madison County!
