In the fall, board members, faculty, administration, parents, students, alumni, and business leaders met for the district’s annual School Board & Stakeholder Workshop. Through- out the past three years efforts outlined within the Plan, referred to as Madison’s “2020 Vision”, have resulted in an enhanced teaching and learning environment and, at the same time, has reduced overall energy consumption and operating costs throughout campus. As part of the guaranteed energy savings project, focus has been on energy efficiency, sustainability, and facility improvements. Included in the project is updated electrical service, connection to township water for concessions and bathrooms, and replacement of a well for irrigation. If all goes well, work will begin following the last home track meet this spring and the project will be completed prior to the first home football game. • Innovative Project Lead the Way (PLTW) programming in Computer Science and Biomedical Technology courses continue to be offered to students in an effort to have students explore career pathways and, at the same time, further prepare students for a post-secondary plan leading to a high skill, high wage, and high demand occupation. • Finally, the Madison Youth Athletic Council (MYAC) offered athletic opportunities to Madison students Young 5s through 6th grade. Last year, over 300 students in partic- ipated in at least one sport. Volunteers offered youth football, cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, baseball, and softball to students enrolled at Madison. From the Superintendent’s Desk:2018 Year in Review
Madison School District has a lot to be thankful for as we look back at numerous ac-complishments achieved throughout the 2018 calendar year. A few highlights include:
• Work outlined within the Strategic Five-Year Facility Maintenance Plan continues to promote a progressive, yet cost-effective teaching and learning environment. In the fall, board members, faculty, administration, parents, students, alumni, and business leaders met for the district’s annual School Board & Stakeholder Workshop. Through-out the past three years efforts outlined within the Plan, referred to as Madison’s “2020 Vision”, have resulted in an enhanced teaching and learning environment and, at the same time, has reduced overall energy consumption and operating costs throughout campus. As part of the guaranteed energy savings project, focus has been on energy efficiency, sustainability, and facility improvements. LED lighting has replaced inefficient bulbs and units inside and outside of the building, weatherization and improvements to the building envelop occurred, and repairs to heating units in the middle school gym took place prior to winter break. In addition, updates to the bathrooms within the mid-dle school will occur over the next few weeks. Finally, engineering occurred to ensure a seamless transition to install air conditioning throughout Madison Middle School this summer, prior to next school year, and a solar array will be installed to help offset the cost of energy consumption.
• A master plan for the football field and track was completed. A request for bid for new ADA compliant bleachers, a new press box, and a team room was approved by the board.
Last year, over 300 students in partic-ipated in at least one sport. Volunteers offered youth football, cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, baseball, and softball to students enrolled at Madison.
As 2018 draws to a close, Madison School District would like to again thank the stu-dents, staff, parents, and community for a year of success as it sets its sights on new expectations and goals for 2019.
