This tactic was often used as a punishment from my father because he felt I was not spending my money wisely which included buying the newest video game console. The punishment turned into a reward. As a public relations major at Murray State University, I am interested in the public awareness of the company through advertisements and events. MURRAY STATE ORGANIZATION REDESIGNS YOGURT CONTAINER TO HELP ENVIRONMENT

A Murray State University environmental organization brought attention to Yoplait Yogurt Company about the effects of their product packaging which is a danger to wildlife.

Murray Environmental Student Society, M.E.S.S, noticed how the yogurt containers could harm scavenger animals in areas such as Land Between the Lakes. Students found that when there was yogurt remaining in the container, animals would stick their heads in and not always be able to get their heads out due to a lip on the top portion of the container which trapped them.

MESS constructed a petition and raised awareness through their various forms of social media accounts to get the company to change the design of their containers.

Becky O’Grady, CEO of Yoplait Yogurt USA, was appreciative of M.E.S.S. students who presented the idea.

“We are removing the lip that folds in on itself and are replacing it with a lip that folds out much like the phalange on the bottom of the cup,” said O’Grady. “That way if wildlife gets their heads stuck, they have two areas of the cup to grip and free themselves.”

Bob Davies, president of the university, was very proud that students found a way to cultivate change within the environmental atmosphere.

The design change will take place in the factory on March 1, 2016.

Murray State University is a four-year public university that was founded in 1922 in Western Kentucky. Murray State has just under 11,000 students enrolled for the current academic year. The university is home to 155 Bachelor’s programs that provide a wide variety for students to explore in order to further their education. The student body is a conglomerate of students from 44 states, 61 foreign countries and 109 Kentucky counties.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST ROARS INTO PADUCAH Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is coming to the Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center in Paducah, Kentucky Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 7 p.m. The play follows the life of a young woman in France, Belle, who is held in the captivity of the Beast, a young prince under an evil spell. If the Beast learns to love before it is too late, he will physically return to the young prince. If not, he will remain in this state forever as will the rest of his household. The household dreams that Belle will cure the curse and set them free of the spell. Brian Laczko, executive director at the Carson Center, said he has tremendous expectations for the show and enjoys the variety of events. “We provide a wide variety from our own Paducah Symphony Orchestra to ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ It is truly a regional meeting place for the Four Rivers Community,” said Laczko. “Beauty and the Beast” is presented by CSI and Baptist Health Paducah. The play is sponsored by Milner & Orr Funeral Homes. Tickets will be available for purchase on December 11, 2015. Prices vary from $46 to $68. The Carson Center is a non-profit performing arts center dedicated to the people in the region. The venue is large enough for public and private events of all kinds. The main goal is to provide entertainment, education, and inspiration to all generations.

1. Ideal Trip Advisor Review a. Wrather Museum was definitely an amazing experience for anyone

who is interested in getting further insight to the Western

Kentucky area. All of the exhibits contributed well to the development of the local area as well as social and economic growth. There are exhibits here for people of all ages so there is always something new to learn.

2. Personal Review

a. I found Wrather Museum very interesting especially since I am not from this area originally. I learned a lot about the history of the area by visiting the exhibit that is dedicated to the tobacco industry in the area. There are several quirky exhibits that spike an interest that you didn’t know you had until you saw that display. Overall, it is a very good collection of conglomerate material!

Wrather Museum is a non-profit establishment that is located on Murray State University’s campus to provide a space for knowledge to students, alumni and residents of the area. The museum was established in 1982 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Wrather Museum specializes in Western Kentucky developments in social, cultural and economic exhibits.
