  • Slip GearsThe mating gear pair on two adjacent shafts are interchanged or replaced by another pair of gears. If all the gears have the same module, the condition for interchangeability-T1 + T2 = T3 + T4 = T5 + T6 etc.

  • Sliding Key MethodTwo sets of gears on two shafts are constantly in mesh. One set is free to rotate on the shaft. Only one gear of the free set is engaged by a sliding key.

  • Tumbler GearsA number of gears is placed on one shaft, which is at a fixed distance from the output shaft. Usually used for feed drives and known as Norton Gearbox.

  • Sliding Type Cluster GearsA set of cluster gears is moved along a shaft to engage another set of gears (one gear of the cluster is engaged at a time).

  • Jaw ClutchesSpeed can be changed by engaging and disengaging clutches with levers.
