SAFE ALTERNATIVE TO TANNING

A beautiful tan is a style that never seems to go

out of style. It seems to be what everyone wants even

when its not in the summer months. And with good

reason. A tan can ultimately be more attractive. It

also helps you appear slimmer and shows off more

muscle definition. It’s also great to hide any skin im-

perfections that you may have. So of course my sug-

gestion would be to get a tan.

Now we all know that spending countless hours in

the sun to achieve this golden bronze look can be dan-

gerous. Laying in the sun can increase the risk of skin

cancers in everyone. So what about a tanning bed? It

omits the suns rays. But it replaces it with UV rays. So

is this as harmful?

In theory a tanning bed can some what safe, but

more often then not they are accidents waiting to

happen. The two biggest problems are the two differ-

ent types of radiation the emit.

Page 6: Mach 10 May 2014

The first type of radiation is called X-rays. These

are emitted by the ends of both bulbs. This occurs

with any florescent bulb.

The second type is EMF. This is emitted by the

magnetic ballast used for most all of the tanning beds.

This is what gives the tanning bed the hum that you

hear coming from it. EMF drops off very rapidly the

further you are away from the ballast, but when you’re

in a tanning bed you are not very far it.

A “safe “ tanning bed can however be constructed

and if you are set on using one look for a home one

that contains these characteristics:

-electronic ballasts instead of magnetic

- health enhancing lights

- ultraviolet light

- infrared light

- red light

Also using a home tanning bed can be beneficial in the

way that you can be in charge of your own sanitation.

Page 7: Mach 10 May 2014
Page 8: Mach 10 May 2014
Page 9: Mach 10 May 2014

Depending on preference you can choose a stand

up bed or lay down bed. A stand up one takes up less

space and in some cases can be mounted to your door

or wall and it allows you more freedom to move so you

if you don’t like closed spaces you feel less confined.

But the benefits of the lay down one you can do just

that. You can lay down. That allows you to relax and

enjoy your tan and enjoy the benefits of the infrared

light, which will sooth sore muscles.

Once you obtain a tanning bed that meets the

safety requirement there are benefits that can be

gained.

cardiovascular health

Cancer prevention

Skin health and repair

Diabetes and osteoporosis prevention

Bone and muscle support.

But if you decide that you don’t want to use a tan-

ning bed or you don’t have one you could go in the sun

Page 10: Mach 10 May 2014

Benefits as well. It is the best and simplest form of vi-

tamin D so to avoid the sun totally isn't exactly good as

well.

Over exposure to both tanning beds and the sun

light can excessively age your skin and make it tough

the older you get. So even though they both have their

benefits they both have their dangers and can be cos-

metically costly on your skin through over exposure.

Well what is a safe method to achieve that bronzy

beautiful look? Simple. A sunless tan. A sunless tan

can look just as nice.

Now Im sure the first thing to pop into your mind is

the orange streaked lotion that in a few hours will

make you look like you should work in Willy Wonka’s

chocolate factory and then stain your clothes when you

get dressed, but sunless tanners have progressed.

There are several good ones that will leave you with

the glow you want with out making you orange or

streaking you.

When applying sunless tanner make sure you don’t

Page 11: Mach 10 May 2014

Have anything on your skin. Do not put on deodorant

or perfume. It will turn your arm pits green.

Exfoliate your skin really well with an oil free wash.

This removes any dead skin particles that may be stuck

on your body. You can also mix in white vinegar with

your bath water. This will also cause any dead skin to

come right off with out scrubbing.

Once you have showered and exfoliated really well

rub the sunless tanner into your skin. Make sure its

rubbed in really well. Some tanners are darker then

your skin so you can see them to make sure you get it

evenly applied. Let your skin dry and get dressed.

They also make lotions that will gradually darken

your skin tone the more you apply it. It uses your

natural tone and deepens what you have. This lotion

doesn't streak and usually with a consistent weekly use

your skin will deepen after about seven days. A lot of

times these lotions are also skin firming so it helps

your skin and is healthy.

Using these lotions is a safer alternative then

Page 12: Mach 10 May 2014

Exposing your body to harmful rays and aging your skin

prematurely .

Sunless tanners are relatively inexpensive and can

easily be obtained at a local drug store or department

store. They are usually in with the sunblock. There are

several brands out there. You may find one that works

perfect for you or you may try several before finding

one you like.

This is an inexpensive less time consuming way to

achieve a nice golden brown tan. And it’s also health-

ier for your skin.

SPOTLIGHT MODEL

Since it is May we are going to shine the spot-

light on Model moms. Moms are busy people.

They where many hats and put in long hours.

They receive no pay or over time pay. They are a

chauffer, a maid, a nurse, a councilor, a mediator,

a peace maker, a career woman, a chef, a teacher,

and offers all her live. She makes sacrifices to her

life and her body and walks around with her heart

on the outside of her.

Her work is never done and runs on little sleep.

She loves unconditionally. A mother’s love is pure

and sweet and gentle. She stretches her self thin

and keeps her home happy. She often sacrifices

the happiness of her self. She often goes without

so that others can have.

She’s the type of person that no matter how old

you are or where you are or who you are when

things go wrong you call her just because her

voice is sweet and delicate and almost seems like

Page 16: Mach 10 May 2014

It could calm anything.

She becomes a rock. A symbol of strength. Yet re-

mains beautiful as a rose. She is a symbol of persis-

tence and realizing that never giving up is not an op-

tion.

She is a protector and a provider. Her soft kind heart

is often broken and she often sheds many tears that

her children that will never see. She will proudly hold

the hand of her child no matter how they look be-

cause that is her flesh, her blood, her dna. She shares

a bond that nothing could break. She falls in love at

first sight and the love never goes away.

She adds light and luster to any situation and seems to

make all the wrong right. Behind the eyes and and the

scars that carrying life leaves behind is a woman. A

beautiful woman full of life and adventure and chose

to give life to you.

Hug your mother. She went through a lot for you. Re-

jection, pain, sweat, tears, joy, love, laughter, but

through it all she’d do it again.

CREATE DEEP SPACE TEXT EFFECT IN PHO-

TOSHOP

Note: The Photoshop tutorial is done in CS6 – therefore some screenshot may

have slighting different layout as in the earlier version. Some brushes are exclusive

to Photoshop CS6.

Step 1

Create a new document sized 1400px *

759px with black background. Load a

ground image into Photoshop and copy

the entire image to our document, re-

size and perspective it as shown to the

left:

Page 23: Mach 10 May 2014

Use a soft eraser to remove the top edge as shown below:

Add the following adjustment layers to this ground texture:

Black and White Levels

Page 24: Mach 10 May 2014

and here is the effect so far:

Step 2

Type some letters onto the canvas with the font we downloaded:

Load the text layer’s selection, move the selection over to the “space image 1″

stock, as shown on the next page:

Page 25: Mach 10 May 2014

Copy and paste the

selection over to

our document and

cover the original

text:

Apply the following layer blending mode to this new space texture layer:

change its colour:

Page 30: Mach 10 May 2014

Attach the texture to the letter:

Continue to add the texture

to cover the entire letter,

make sure your rotate, warp

the texture to fit the shape of

the letter:

Keep going until all letters are covered with the fire texture:

Page 31: Mach 10 May 2014

Step 4

We will add some special lighting effect into the image. Create a new layer and

paint a small dot:

On the same layer,

use a smaller

white brush to

paint another dot

in the centre:

And use the warp tool to warp it as

shown below:

Page 32: Mach 10 May 2014

Attach a few of these lighting stripes to the letters as shown below:

Step 5

We will add

some extra neb-

ula and cloud ef-

fect into our im-

age. Select the

following portion

with a 30px

feather Lasso

Tool from a

space image:

Copy and paste the se-

lection to our document

and apply the following

Hue/Saturation settings:

Page 33: Mach 10 May 2014

Add 3 of these to our document as shown below. Make sure you place the layers

below the text layer:

Add one more

nebula texture

from “space image

″:

Copy and paste the se-

lection to our document

and apply the following

Hue/Saturation settings:

Page 34: Mach 10 May 2014

Add 2 of these to our document as shown below. Make sure you place the layers

above the text layer and set the layer blending mode to “screen”:

Add some cloud

effect on the

ground with a

cloud brush or the

cloud filter:

Step 6

For final touches, I flattened the

layers and apply this unsharp mask

filter settings to the background

layer in order to sharpen the image

a bit:

Page 35: Mach 10 May 2014

Apply the following selective color adjustment layer on top to fine tune the colour:
