Based on the aesthetic of concrete architecture, this design works conventional materials and simple forms into a house that addresses the needs of modern living in Macedon. It is designed to fulfil all the criteria to become a comprehensive community housing. This building solves the issue of bushfire, by using system that protects the house. Moreover, recognizing the limited nature of natural resources, the house is designed to minimize the impact on its location and also to use a little energy and as many recycle materials as possible.

Macedon is a town on the Calder Freeway between Melbourne and Bendigo in the Macedon Ranges in central Victoria, Australia. It is in the Local Government Area of the Shire of Macedon Ranges, and is located at the foot of Mount Macedon, a 1,013-metre (3,320 ft) peak to the north. Macedon was a town that considered located in bushfire prone areas. In February 1983, the Ash Wednesday fires swept through the area, destroying many house. Nowaday, the Macedon people are fearing that it would come again. So, there is a need for a better area planning in this town.

View in Victoria St, which is one of the major street in Macedon. It is a resdential area. However, there are few shop and cafe, which usually for them to meet each other. The road is located on the right of train station, so the place is quite easy to find.

These are the typical house in Macedon. Almost every house is just one level. The size of the area is quite big, around 20x53 meters. However, they could not make useful of the space. The house footprint maybe only using 20-30% of the area, the rest is for garden and backyard, which they are, not take care very well and becoming waste of space. A few house using their backyard quite well, by creates a child playground.

The house usually have big terrace at the front and at the back, which is in purpose for sleep out spaces.

The interior of the house are still using the classic British style. In some rooms, they have door that connecting to other room.

I proposed 156 houses which triple the density in Victoria St, Macedon. The idea behind this design was to create a community housing, which could become a tool for people or family in Macedon become closer to each others. To make it successful, I think to create smaller community between two to three families. By still using the lot that provided, I design houses for them, which they could share their facili-ties, such as kitchen, living room, and garden. I hope it can increase the awareness of families in Macedon about community. Moreover, although they will live together, there will be a differentiation between private and public space. So rather than designing one big house for them, it will be better to create a small pavilions or houses for each family, so they still have their privacy.

Furthermore, when i thought about Macedon, one word in my mind that could describe it was nature. Bush and gum tree cannot be sepa-rated from Macedon. Nature is the value that Macedon keeps until now. So my design should be incorporate bush and gum trees, not as an addition aspect, but somehow have to blend with the community. Then, I decide to place a bush and gum trees at the back of the lot. In the middle of it, there is a small pathway for people in Macedon to walk and feel the atmosphere of the nature. It also has an advan-tage for animals to migrate when there is a bushfire condition. In addition, to make it more accessible for the people, every two lot there is a laneway that connect the Victoria Street to the Gum trees area.
