SUMMER IS COMING!
Summer is on the way, just ask the Macarthur
Swimming Pool committee. They have been busy
painting and tidying up the building and pool
surrounds in readiness for the pool opening on
Saturday, 3rd December. One of the jobs under-
taken was the planting of some native plants

supporting the nursery.
The pool is one of many recreational assets this
town has available to it but to ensure it is always
presented at its’ best requires work, usually only

MACARTHUR WIND FARM
Did you see the first of the top tower sections that
came through town in mid October? They were quite
a sight as the trucks maneuvered around the corner
into Heckfield Street. Although they are substantially
longer than the bottom and middle sections they are
only about half as long as the blades. We waited in
vain for another delivery so that we could print a
photo but have been unable to get one. Watch out
for further deliveries. Delivery of the blades is
expected to start in November and the large crane(s)
to raise the top sections, nacelles and blades are also
expected.
The huge volume of vehicles on our roads means
that we all have to take extra care. Parents! Please

MACARTHUR C.F.A NEWS
Well another month has gone and I expect all CFAs’ have
been busy preparing for the Summer Season. Our Macar-
thur brigade recently had an equipment checking and clean
up day followed by a BBQ and I would like to those who
came and helped out. Thanks Simon & Julie for the chops
etc. We had a productive day and managed to get a lot of
chores done. As everyone is aware there is a lot of long
grass around already so please keep it cut. Any vacant
blocks you have must be kept tidy as well. If you are an
elderly person and need a hand please do not hesitate to
give me a call and I will get some help for you. I would
also like to thank all who have donated money towards our
brigade as it is very much appreciated.
In my last report I incorrectly said that the Macarthur CFA
had received a grant for a new vehicle. This was the result
of a misunderstanding on my part and I would like to clar-
ify that it was for a command vehicle for the Macarthur
Group which comprises 8 local CFA brigades. I apologise
for any confusion this may have caused.
As always we would like to see some new faces and
would like to encourage young families to come and have a
look or come to our training sessions which can be a lot of
fun as well as learning all aspects of becoming a volunteer.
We need more volunteers so please consider.
Thankyou

Macarthur & District Lions Club News
Members recently conducted a very successful Household Goods auction in the Macarthur hall. Buyers attended
from as far away as Coleraine, Hamilton, Heywood, Woolsthorpe and Caramut resulting in an almost total
clearance of goods on offer. We would like to thank Gloria Muldoon for her generosity in providing most of
the items for sale and thanks also to the other vendors on the day. A huge thankyou to the local people who
assisted our members collecting and displaying items prior to the sale, as well as those who assisted on sale day.
Thanks also to those who attended and purchased items and food.
This year our District Lions convention is being held in Portland over the weekend of November 4th, 5th and
6th. 10 Macarthur members will be in attendance and during the following week, from the 6th until 12th, two
Swedish Lions will be hosted by our members giving us all a chance to showcase our area. We will also be able to
learn a little about their activities in their homeland.
Coming up we have our Annual Community Tea on Friday night, November 25th, 7.00pm in
the Macarthur hall. As usual we will supply a 3 course meal—soup, BBQ and salads, sweets plus supper for only
$10 per head for adults, $5 for children or $25 per family (Where else do you get value like that?) During the
night we will have entertainment, plus a raffle and spinning wheel. A good night is assured so keep that date
free. Come along and enjoy an inexpensive night out with friends.
Enquiries about any Lions activities can be directed to President, Andrew Duyvestyn, ph 55761217 or
Secretary, Lesley Addinsall, ph 557761226.

YOUNG GARDENERS BLOOM IN MACARTHUR
Macarthur Primary School will have a bountiful harvest with the help of a Wannon Water Kitchen Garden Pack.
The primary school students showcased their crop of home grown fruits, vegetables and herbs to family and friends at their recent Open Garden Day.
The young gardeners’ enthusiasm, knowledge of the seedlings and established plants in their patch, and their home-made scarecrows, impressed Open Garden Day visitors.
Managing Director, Grant Green, said the corporation welcomed the chance to attend the Open Garden Day and support water efficient kitchen gardens across the region.
“Through our education program Wannon Water is committed to giving local schools a helping hand and encouraging budding gardeners to take a keen interest in growing and preparing their own produce,” said Mr Green.
The Kitchen Garden Packs are specifically designed to help teachers to encourage students to get out into the garden, grow their own produce and learn how to cook it. The packs contain a variety of water efficient garden products including:
• buckets
• tap connectors
• jug & cup sets
• trigger nozzles
• garden spikes
• rain gauges
• tap timers
“Wannon Water’s education program helps equip young South-West Victorians with the tools and the knowledge to be water wise both inside and outside in the garden,” said Mr Green.
“Congratulations to Macarthur Primary School on establishing such a wonderful produce garden and sharing it with the community.”
Over the past year Wannon Water has delivered Kitchen Garden Packs to more than 20 schools across the region.
