1.3 Cable qualities available: K01 –K05
M12 cables are offered in different cable qualities, which are marked in this document with the
former K2 and K3, which merge into the current cable qualities:
Kq1 Significance Short desription
K01 No normative
requirements of any
kind
Cables of cable quality 01 must meet the general technical requirements, but have no normative
requirements.
K02 UN/ECE-R 118 The cable quality 02 fully corresponds to the cable quality "K1" (the designation K1 is not used in this
document). The cables and wires of cable quality 02 must comply with the general minimum technical
requirements and be certified according to UN/ECE-R 118. The UN/ECE-R 118 regulation does not
contain any further normative requirements regarding material properties.
K03 Free of halogen + UN/ECE
118
Cable quality 03 fully corresponds to cable quality "K2" (the designation K2 is not used in this
document).
The cables and wires of cable quality 03 must meet the general minimum technical requirements.
They must also be UN/ECE-R 118 certified and meet at least one of the following halogen-free
requirements:
- VDE0472-815
- EN50267-2-1 (hydrogen halide content ≤ 0.5%)
- IEC60754-1 (hydrogen halide content ≤ 0.5%)
K04 Railway compatible cables
according to EN45545 R15
HL3 (halogen-free)
UN/ECE-R 118
The cable quality 04 fully corresponds to the cable quality "K3" (the designation K3 is not used in this
document). The cables and wires of cable quality 04 must meet the general minimum technical
requirements. They must also be UN/ECE-R 118 certified and meet at least one of the following fire
safety standards. Standards for extended fire protection: - EN 45545-2:2013 R15 HL3 - EN 50306
K05 Railway cable according to
EN 50306 (halogenfree)
The cables and wires of cable quality 05 must fully comply with EN 50306. Cables and lines marked "in
accordance with EN 50306" do not correspond to cable quality 05.

3 Typical installations in an Ethernet network
In the following figures show typical installation examples of IRMA MATRIX sensors in an Ethernet architecture. The examples show the connection of the sensor using different connectors (sCON).
For the sake of clarity the type of the connectors is marked by the color and form of their representation:
see p. 17
• Connector (m): contour shown in blue
• Connector (f) and SUB-D9 connector (f): surface filled in red
• The legend contains links taking the user to the detailed explanation of the component
in question.
EXAMPLE 1,SEE P. 11
• A return tag takes the user from the detailed explanation back to the installation
example.
(see left): The mark – blue or white letters, bold type, underlined and with differently
colored shading - shows the number of the installation example in question and the
page in the document.
• In order to improve recognition, an according branch mark is shown in the form of a
symbol in each of the installation examples.
EXAMPLE 2, SEE P. 12
For installations with more than 4 sensors on the CAN BUS, the IRMA gateway and the power supply are located in the middle of the CAN BUS.

Conformity of Ethernet cables, K3 type
For the cable with increased fire protection K3 ,the cable manufacturers4, in addition to the fire protection properties given in section 1.3, page 8,
warrant the observance of additional national standards:
Fire protection in rail vehicles
EN 45545-2:2013 Fire condition R15 (EL1A) HL3
DIN 5510-25
Fire protection level 4, indoor uses
BS 5853, GM/RT 21305 Category: Indoor cables: Ia, Ib, II

UNI CEI 111705 Hazard level: LR1 - LR4
EN 50306-1 For correct transmission behaviour, the Ethernet cable needs to have a defined wave impedance. For technical
reasons, cables with a defined wave impedance cannot be manufactured in accordance with EN 50306-x.
The Ethernet cable fulfils the main protection requirements pursuant to EN 50306-4, section 6.1.3 to the
maximum degree.
