WELCOME TO PERHAMThe History of PerhamFrom the railroad to industry, Perham has always thrived. As the first president of the Northern Pacific Railroad, Josiah Perham had a vision of taking a railroad from Lake Superior to the Pacific coast. The railroad entered Otter Tail County in September 1871, and many people began to settle in the area because of it. Although he never got to visit, the town was officially named Perham in 1877 after the president of the railroad. The village was officially incorporated on February 14, 1881.

With all of the lakes in the area, tourism has become a major player for Perham. However, with all of the industry around town, Perham thrives through every season. Our manufacturing businesses produce products or other materials that are sent not just around the United States, but around the world as well. We are a small community with a big city lifestyle and a hometown feel. A perfect mix if you ask us!

Our CountyOtter Tail County is the 7th largest county in Minnesota by total area. Of our 2,225 square miles, 252 miles of it is water. With 4,618 miles of shoreline in the County, we’ve gotten used to being by and around the water. Over 1,000 lakes are just waiting for you!

Otter Tail Lakes Country is home to about two dozen charming towns that are located throughout our wooded hills and crystal clear lakes. We work together with these communities to offer more things to do and places to see.

most communities, our summer festival is based around one of our local icons – ours just happen to be turtles. Turtle Fest features a wide variety of events and activities to suit the whole family. Whether you are up for racing turtles

Perham Sportsman’s Club has been in place since 2008; we have acquired 400 acres of land, planted over 16,000 trees, released over 69,000 pheasants, built a beautiful gun range, and an archery range, and now erected a clubhouse. Our plan is to do local projects, with local help, with local money.

The Perham Sportsman’s Club recently took on the project of building a clubhouse. The clubhouse is now in the final stages of completion. The purpose of the clubhouse is to have a place for PSC membership to meet, the board to have a meeting location, but also to give a home to the various outdoor, wildlife and conservation groups in our area for their use, whether for their board meetings or other events, such as gun training, atv training, boater’s safety and more.

Every Wednesday during the summer, a crowd gathers

around a paved ring to race turtles. Seems silly, but it’s been a way of life for over 40 years! We have turtles available, but you can also train your own for

the big race.

Perham Center for the Arts

The Perham Center for the Arts is a former 100-year-old

architectural marvel that hosts everything from musical productions to weddings and

painting classes.

Live EntertainmentMusic, concerts, and plays are just

a few of the live entertainment options in our area. Many of

the local bars have live music on weekends throughout the year,such as David Lee/David Lee Trio, while larger concerts and plays are held

at either the Perham Center for the Arts or the Perham High School

Auditorium. Either way, Perham always puts on a good show!

Waves of DiscoveryThe Waves of Discovery Mural is art to

experience and explore. It was created with a medium of carved concrete and includes elements of agates, fossils fused glass, and

mosaics. Designed to encourage interaction among viewers, there are over 50 items hidden

among the panels of the mural to seek and find.

Farmers MarketVendors of locally made or

produced goods gather each Wednesday and Friday during the summer for a local farmers

market. Buy local and buy fresh.

History, Arts & Culture Association

HACA, formerly Friends of the Museum, has a mission to unite

humanities, art, community, and culture in the Perham area. The

History Museum of East Otter Tail County, In Their Own Words

Veterans Museum, and Perham’s Pioneer Village are each a part of

this Association.

Culture Center in NYMThe Cultural Center in New York Mills is a rural hub for creativity, community vitality and lifelong learning in the arts. The Cultural

Center offers visitors intimate opportunities to encounter art and artists in the 80 set concert listening room, two art galleries in a historic building, a gift shop featuring local

artists, and artist residency program, classes and workshops, a sculpture park, and a variety of opportunities
