Standard Trust For clients who wish to pass down their established legacy to their beneficiaries. It is often used to ensure family members are well taken care of after the demise of the settlor. Another possible objective includes avoiding forced heirship rule.

Share Distribution Trust This type of trust is typically used by clients to hold their offshore companies and ensure that their beneficiaries take over the companies upon their demise without protracted probate administration.

Insurance Trust A trust established solely to hold insurance policy or policies as the underlying asset(s). The objective is to simplify the redemption process whereby the trustee, the named beneficiary, is able to disburse the policy payout in accordance with the wishes of the settlor

Private Unit Trust Private unit trust is a highly customised trust solution that allows clients to better manage and consolidate their diverse investments. By appointing managers to manage the unit trust, it provides opportunities for clients to invest into specific or targeted areas of interest. Lion Trust, aside from acting as trustee, will provide independent net asset valuations and ensure that the trust is managed in accordance with the trust instrument

Securitisation Trusteeship More forms of businesses are beginning to recognise the merits of assets leasing/financing. This allows the company to better manage their cashflow. Lion Trust has the technical experience and expertise to assist companies in executing these forms of niche financing. As an independent trust company, we are able to act independently and impartially as a securitisation trustee.

Bond Trusteeship The role of a bond trustee may also be required in structured corporate finance deals which differ slightly from a securitisation trustee. As a bond trustee, Lion Trust would collectively represent the bond holders who have invested their monies ensuring that their interests are equally protected.

Escrow Services As an independent escrow agent, we will receive and disburse money and/or documents to two or more transacting parties, with the timing of such disbursement being dependent on the performance by the parties on the contractual provisions that have been agreed. This will essentially provide a peace of mind to the contracting parties in specific financing or asset acquisition transactions and even in bankruptcy or judicial management proceedings.

Singapore – The preferred Jurisdiction

“Singapore is one of the leading financial centers of the world and has revamped and updated its trust laws. This makes it an obvious choice of jurisdiction to create trust structures”

Strong Regulatory and Legal Framework

Singapore laws are mirrored and based on the English common law system with repute of an efficient and reliable legal system. Modern trust laws legislation in relation to forced heirship and settlor’s reserved powers of investment are in place to ensure that Singapore remains relevant with the international trust standards.

Proactive Leadership

Singapore, a highly acclaimed politically safe and stable country, is managed by proactive leadership. The quick response to global changes and crisis by its leaders has attracted many financial institutions to set up base in Singapore.

Availability of Wealth Management Specialist

Aside from developing local wealth management specialists, Singapore has attracted specialists from all over the world that includes legal, tax and audit professionals

Strategic Location & No Key Time Differences with most Asian countries

Singapore is strategically located to serve people from all over the world. This allows it to serve and connect to the vast majority of Asian high-net-worth individuals without any hassle as there are no key time differences between Asian countries.

Confidentiality

The duty of confidentiality is owed by financial institutions to their clients and Singapore has strict statutory banking secrecy laws on disclosures. Though Singapore is in the white list of OECD, it does not allow “fishing” expeditions by treaty nations.

Tax Friendly Singapore has statutory tax provisions that exempt taxes from specified income earned in a foreign trust. Unlike many developed economies, Singapore characterise tax based on a territorial tax regime, where taxes are imposed on income earned or remitted into Singapore. As at 9 Mar 2011, Singapore has signed 64 comprehensive double taxation agreements (DTAs)
