Show Your Support for Life, and the Work

of Your Local Christian Crisis Pregnancy Home.

Lynden Human Life is encouraging individuals, churches, and organizations in this community to support life this January by sponsoring a Luminary For Life and participating in A Light In The Darkness on Sanctity of Human Life Sun-day (January 21, 2007). For every $1.00 luminary sponsorship, $0.67 will di-rectly support the “Great Expectations” Maternity Home.

Just imagine, if just 5 churches or organizations sponsored just one Luminary For Life Kit (250 count), we would light over 1,250 LUMINARIES FOR LIFE on January 21st and raise over $1000 for the “Great Expectations” maternity home in Lynden. If ten churches participated we could double our funds.

For additional information, or to order your Luminaries For Life today, call 1-888-399-life.

The live birth rate across America includes almost 50% of all babies born to single moms. Meanwhile the teenage rate of pregnancy has declined, with more women in their late 20’s and early 30’s have chil-dren before marriage, or while living together with the child’s father. Should we be alarmed for the con-dition of the human family? Yes, we can only imagine what the stats will show for the next generation.

During the summer things were slow at “Great Expectations” , We had a small space of time without residents. This lull in residents coincided with the North-west Washington Fair here in Lynden. A lot of coordination was required at that busy time, as we had an informational booth with baby models, “In the Womb” videotape running, booklets, bumper stickers and handmade baby items for sale. Volunteers served in four hour time slots at the booth. That again reminded me that this ministry is a joint effort and we need every participant in order to “do ministry”. The image of the body of Christ, and each of us using our part of the body to make a whole functioning body came home to me in a real tangible sense. At the end of the summer, Julie Schiffman joined the office as part-time office as-sistant. She brings to the table a sense youthful optimism to the home and office. . Together, we can tackle almost any project that comes. “Life Chain” came up very soon in October, and there was a lot to accomplish in order to have a successful day. Again, we were dependant upon volunteers to make the day a success. (See Life Chain report in this edition)

In Sept/Oct we have had a special night manager, Chelsie Miller. She has been a wonderful peer encourager to our residents. Whenever they were in the kitchen preparing meals there was always hearty laughter and a sense of camaraderie. Chelsie has gone to Guatemala a number of times with her church on short term missions’ trips. She felt the Lord leading her there once again, so she left our home at the end of October. A dear friend of Chelsie’s, Samantha Kellett, has agreed to fill Chelsie’s shoes until she returns. Samantha is a senior at Western Washington University and works part-time at Whatcom County Pregnancy Cen-ter as a caseworker and “Relate Counselor” in our county schools. Chelsie has just given word that she wants to come back to “GE”! We have been amazed at how God has provided these accomplished and dedicated young women to serve with us at Great Expectations.

Presently we have four young women from eighteen to twenty-six years of age living in our home. Three having their first babies. Just in the first two weeks of December, four 17 year old girls have needed housing. We will see how we can assist these new applicants. The existing “GE” family is excited yet apprehensive. It has been a joy to encourage and counsel them. They are all motivated to move forward with the programs that will help them handle single motherhood. Each of them does have caring parents in their lives, which is not always the case. The support of their own parents is so essential in a young lady’s chances of successful parenting. Good parenting begets good parenting. It makes our job of coming alongside them easier, so that we can focus on their spiritual growth and practical concerns. I look at it as sharing their burdens as Christ has shared ours, as we are yoked to Him, He helps carry the load with us. That is the image we try to model as we minister to these young, future moms. Please pray for this ministry as we yoke ourselves with these young women and their yet to be born children.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- "If the current trend continues, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America Inc. will com-mand a budget of more than $1 billion in three years," warned Douglas R. Scott, Jr., president of Life Decisions Interna-tional. The Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) generated $882 million in fiscal year 2004-2005, which is a whopping increase of 8.9 percent over the previous re-porting period. Nearly one-third of its income ($272.7 million) comes from American taxpayers. "This 'not-for-profit' entity ends every fiscal year with tens of millions of dollars in 'excess revenue over expenses,'" Scott said, "which is known to mere mortals as 'profit.'" The "excess" for 2004-2005 alone was $63 million. PPFA reported that on June 30, 2005, it had net assets valued at $784.1 million, of which $302.1 million is unrestricted. "This is essentially a savings account," Scott explained. "It is money that Planned Parenthood could choose to spend at any time. But for now it is sitting drawing interest." PPFA has another $107.6 million that is temporarily restricted. "Despite these huge sums that Planned Parenthood cannot seem to find a use for, the corporation's hierarchy inces-santly claims to need more tax dollars," Scott said. An affiliate of the International Planned Parenthood Federation, PPFA describes itself as the world's oldest and largest "reproductive health care" business. Founded in 1916 by elitist and eugenics advocate Margaret Higgins Sanger, it be-gan as the nation's first birth control facility. PPFA argues that "everyone has the right to choose when or whether to have a child..." It pushes for laws and con-stitutional amendments that guarantee "reproductive freedom," a phrase that encompasses unlimited birth control and abortion for everyone, no matter how young. The most proficient abortion machine in the United States, PPFA admits to killing 255,015 preborn human beings in 2004 alone (up 4.3 percent from 2003), generating an estimated $95 million. A scant 1,414 customers were referred to adoption agencies; down more than 20 percent from 2003. PPFA claims to prevent the "need" for abortion while simulta-neously working to increase its share of the lucrative abortion market. In 1984, PPFA committed just over 5.5 percent of all abortions in the United States. By 2004 that figure had risen to nearly 20 percent.PPFA confesses to having sold 983,537 "emergency" birth control kits in 2004 (nearly 21.3 percent more than in 2003). Every PPFA "clinic" dispenses "emergency" birth control. Most prescribe it over the phone and accept orders over the Internet, without an exam. In the vast majority of cases, "emergency" birth control causes an abortion. Scott noted that PPFA's release of its annual report was delayed by nearly six months. "This is probably because it took a long time for Planned Parenthood to count so much money," Scott said. Life Decisions International will publish an analysis of PPFA's Annual Report in the July-August edition of its newsletter, The Caleb Report.Emergency Contraception - Now They Are Willing To Admit The Truth! The weather was awesome and once again the Guide Meridian Road was filled with people and signs demonstrating the truth about abortion! Our numbers were about the same as last year, but the message was heard by all who traveled by. Many motorists honked a loud “GOOD JOB”, while a few were daring enough to shout a few profanities at the silent sign-holders. All in all, it is a privi-lege to stand with other Christians in this local area as well as the hundreds of

thousands who stood across America on that day. Over 1200 cites participated.

Thank-you to each and every one of you who hold the sanctity of Life in such high regard that you take the time to share your beliefs.

Life-Chain Sunday: A Blessing to Participate

SOCIETY Abortion opponents to demonstrate Meridian picket will in-clude county churches ZOE FRALEY THE BELLINGHAM HERALD

Nearly 500 abortion opponents will carry signs with pre-approved slogans such as "Abortion kills children" and "Adoption, the lovi-ing option" Sunday along Meridian Street.

"If you drive by, it is rather impressive to see that many people," said Juanita Verbree, spokeswoman for Lynden Human Life and the Whatcom County Life Chain.

Participants will gather with their picket signs at 2 p.m. between Kellogg and Telegraph roads for Whatcom County's Life Chain.

The demonstration "gives people the opportunity to rethink the current abortion situation in America and make better decisions than taking the life of a child," Verbree said. "It's a time of prayer and reflection and hope for the future."

About 40 to 50 churches countywide will be represented at the hour-long demonstration, the 14th held in Bellingham. Nearly 1,200 cities are participating.

Verbree expects the demonstration to run smoothly, though the group does not have a permit. Pickets usually stay on the side-walk, and police usually do not have any problems with them, said Bellingham Police Lt. Flo Simon.

Many families will be participating, including some with children, Verbree said.

"That's the crux of this issue, so children are always invited," she said. "It's a harsh reality and the more you know about it the better decision you can make."

Verbree said the availability of more information and better support services for single parents can provide options other than abortion for many pregnant women who don't know what to do.

“TWO FOR ONE” by Martin Verbree/fundraiser

How many times haven’t we all been drawn in by this retail line, to get us into the store?

When you donate to “Great Expectations” & Lynden Human Life, we in turn help young women in their crisis time of needing support & housing, but wait, they are with child so they are truly help-ing TWO people created in the image of God!

God has graciously been supplying our needs of financial support through people like you which we so appreciate. Thank you to our regular supporters, and I challenge any of you who have not done so to send us a donation one time, or monthly, however you feel led.

Remember, helping one girl who finds herself facing a crisis pregnancy is actually helping TWO people, a mother and her precious unborn child.

Keep in mind also, as we just celebrated the birth of Jesus, that He too was born to a woman who faced a crisis pregnancy! Joseph himself planned to quietly divorce Mary because he found himself in a crisis situation. God chose this unique situation to send His Son.

Won’t you consider supporting this vital ministry this season? We stretch a dollar beyond your imagination, and are proud of the way your donations are utilized. God bless you all…..

Mission Statement

“Great Expectations” provides

Love, Understanding, & a Place to Live at a crucial time in a young woman’s life.

“It is our goal to minister to the immediate needs of each young woman that comes to

our home, along with equipping her with the tools

she needs to lead a productive, independent

life.”

For I know the plans I have for you de-clared the Lord, plans to prosper you and

not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

It’s a Boy!“Today in the town of David

a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.”

Luke 2:11

Our minsitry is like unto the most wellknown story in history. A single momfacing the most incredible pregnancy ever to be! And Mary too felt the cr isis of

not having a place for her Holy child to be born. We can only imagine theantic ipation Joseph and Mary felt as they stepped forward in faith to deliver

a Savior to our World.

From the president of Lynden Human Life Greetings fellow Pro-Lifers, or as the media would call us, Anti-Choice. What a difference it makes in the perception of something simply by what it is named! I went to the dictionary and looked up the word media. It said, a plural of me-dium: see meaning of 3 medium. So I did, and 3 medium stated: a way of communicating with the general public, as TV or newspapers. With this definition understood, what is the media trying to communicate to the general public about Abortion? Is the media our friend? Is the media wanting to become our friend? Is the media wanting to learn about our cause? What do you think?

Here is an example of the media coverage of the very controversial embryonic stem cell research. This was in the Seattle P.I. on Nov. 16th 2006. The headline to the story went like this. “Stem cells offer hope for muscular dystrophy”, the arti-cle reports for 5 paragraphs on the remarkable easing of symptoms after stem cell injections were made on a group of golden retrievers, a significant step toward treating people. Not until paragraph 6 did the Associated Press disclose that the stems cells came from the affected dogs or other dogs rather than embryos. Most people scan articles don’t even read that far to get to the truth. The very last paragraph explained that blood vessel wall stem cells were used from the dogs.

Now, most people reading just the headline would assume that embryonic stems cells again, are our only hope! Never reading further, the general public falls prey to the medias’ purposeful admittance of the word “adult” next to stem, again portraying a half truth.

As of today, embryonic stem cells have never worked. Web sights for your own research in embryonic and adult stem cell are www.nrlpac.org and www.stemcellresearch.org.

Why does the media deliberately choose to call us Anti-Choice? The answer is Simple. If nothing is wrong, everything and anything we choose to engage in becomes acceptable. Thus generating monies and pleasure without judgment or guilt. Pretty nifty isn’t it.

To report the TRUTH that the latex material in which condoms are made from is capable of only stopping sperm would cause a collapse in the “safe Sex” mantra touted by homosexuals, Hollywood, and Planned Parenthood. Fact: Sperm is 25 times the width of an HIV virus, that same latex can only stop 5 microns and larger. HIV sadly is .1 microns. Picture a basket ball going through a hula hoop. (Source: Focus on the Family) The companies that have benefited from the three billion TAX dollars have been spent since 1970 to promote “Safe Sex” are doing everything they can to keep this fact from the general public.

Planned Parenthood, a non-profit organization earns an average of $692 million a year and 35% is from GOVERN-MENT grants, that is $240 million every year. (Source: NRTL) The media seems ride the shirt tails by benefiting from their constant advertising on radio, TV and newspapers.

The media will never be our friend simply because the Pro-Life movement doesn’t have money. So what are we to do? SPREAD THE TRUTH! Tell your family, relatives, friends, co-workers, youth leaders, pastors, anyone who will listen.

A while back I was watching the History Channel on an elite Air Force task whose job was rescue missions in Alaska. Their motto was “So that others may live” Many dangerous, but successful rescues were performed by these men in the harsh Alaskan environment, only one man made the effort to thank them. When they were asked about this, they re-plied with their motto and showed no hint of discouragement. WOW! I was so impressed. I felt quite wimpy and in re-flecting at what job I thought was difficult in my own life, the Pro-Life cause came to mind. My own efforts for the un-born seemed feeble, and Pro-Life warriors get few accolades and we’re up against the harsh and unforgiving environment of the media, and I can’t lie, at times I am are discouraged by the half truths and non-coverage of the slaughtered inno-cent. But I am encouraged by what Paul wrote in Galatians 6:9, Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up!

Enough said, carry on Pro-Lifers.
