Once all providers are trained, the web-based program will allow us to keep in constant contact with providers through broadcast emails and real-time updates. In addition, our staf will be able to spend more time designing and distributing educational materials or children and parents.” …meet the needs o amilies, Every amily is unique and their child care needs change with the changing tides o their amily. Many choose to enroll their child in an LVCC program because they value • safe, reliable care while they work; • sta who nurture and stimulate the development of their infant or toddler • a strong academic environment to help their preschooler prepare for kindergarten; • an enriching, structured after-school program; • or convenient, aordable child care while they nish high school. Whatever the reason, amilies look to LVCC or solutions to their early care and education needs. “It is very convenient to have child care available right at my child’s school. It is better or them to be around other children they already know.” – Mallony Kutz, Avona School “LVCC is second to none. All o my daughter’s teachers and all the sta are attentive, caring, and involved with the care and education o not just my daughter but all the children in their care. Tey are wonderul and my daughter loves it there.” – Wendy Duch, Campus Center “Te sta at College Hill are very caring to my children and mysel. Everyone is very riendly and compassion ate. Te director is excellent and makes accommodations according to my needs or my children.” – Parent, College Hill “I am very pleased with the center. Both my children enjoy the teachers, curriculum and amily-like setting that LVCC at St. Luke’s provides. Tere is a peace o mind that I have, knowing my children are being cared or by teachers that really care and are close to them. Tey are not just numbers or aces. Keep up the good work!” – Parent, St. Luke’s “I loved that there were many opportunities or my son to build things and draw in the art area. I see great areas or children to play/act. (Tey had an ofce and school). Tere were places to dress up and build lie-sized structures (a tepee and building blocks). Te outside and inside toys were in good shape and engaging. My son has been with the ruman Center since Kindergarten and he has never once said he was bored. So many o his needs were met at all dierent age levels rom K-5. – Parent, ruman School … and encourage children to discover the joy o learning. With lesson plans designed and acilitated by over 100 proessional educators, each LVCC classroom is a colorul, rich learning environment. LVCC teachers share one principal goal – to inspire young minds. According to a recent LVCC parent/guardian survey, 93% o respondents either “agree” or “agree strongly” that our teachers ofer interesting activities that expand their child’s knowledge . Below is just a snapshot o projects that teachers used to encourage students to discover the joy o learning in 2008–2009: • Te school-age classroom at LVCC’s Early Learning Center celebrated internation al oods week. Children discovered the joy o researching, cooking, and eating oods rom around the globe. • Te Center Director at Muhlenberg Elementary Schoo l used Keystone SARS unding to hire Mad Science®, a local science enrichment provider, to deliver hands-on science experiences to LVCC’s ater-school population. Students enjoyed educational and entertaining workshops on Dry Ice, Slime, Stunt Planes & Gliders and Rocketry. During the rocketry workshops, the students not only discovered the dynamics o rocket ight, but also built and launched their own rockets! • Infant teachers at LVCC’s Campus Center helped our youngest learners discover the joy o the outdoors. In addition to exploring their neighborhood during regular walks, teachers spread a blanket in the grass on the playground and encouraged the children to eel diferent textures and appreciat e the sights and sounds o the outdoors. • Te Center Director at LVCC at Allen High School encouraged teen parents to read to their children by acilitating the Raising A Reader® take-home book bag program. Each book bag contains age appropriate books or parents to read to their children and can be exchanged or a new book bag with new books each week. • Te older toddler teacher at LVCC on College Hill helped children use their senses, and even magniying glasses, to explore the outside and inside o pumpkin s. Tey learned that pumpki ns can be smooth, bumpy, rough, squishy, hard, slimy, or wet. Tey discovered that even though pumpkins come in diferent shapes, sizes and colors, they all start out as seeds, bloom owers and grow on vines. Children are selected or LVCC’s Pre-K Counts program because they are considered “at-risk” o school ailure; however, upon entering kindergarten, 79% o LVCC’s Pre-K Counts graduates either met or exceeded their teacher’s expectati ons in terms o eagerness and curiosity as a learner. Tey discovered the joy o learning at LVCC! B o a r o f i r c t o r s O F F I C E R S J . M i c h a l e , P h . . , C h a i e r o S a l y J . i r d , V i c e C h i r p r s o n S u s a C .
