800 hp and 1,420 Nm instead of the standard-spec 12 hp: With the BRABUS 800 engine conversion, BRABUS offers owners of the new Mercedes G 65 AMG a fascinating performance upgrade. A sprint time of just 4.2 seconds to 62 mph, an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph and the optional BRABUS WIDESTAR wide-body version complete with 23-inch BRABUS forged wheels available in various versions set the tuned off-roader far apart from the rest. The electrically adjustable BRABUS Ride Control suspension offers a perfect symbiosis of excellent ride comfort and

safe, agile handling.

The BRABUS 800 engine conversion unleashes the power reserves inherent in the 6.0-liter V12 Biturbo engine. To this end the BRABUS engine specialists developed a high-tech Biturbo system. The exhaust manifolds custom-designed for the G 65 AMG with integrated turbine housings and high-performance turbochargers optimize throttle response and produce a higher boost pressure than the production turbos. Four water-to-air intercoolers arranged under the BRABUS carbon-fiber hood scoop ensure lower charge-air temperatures. This benefits power yield and durability even under extreme conditions such as in the desert. The optimized engine air supply is provided by two air filter boxes in the front fenders.

On the exhaust side there is a BRABUS stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with free-flow metal catalysts and a sound management system courtesy of a butterfly valve in the exhaust. The high-tech exhaust is controlled with

a button on the steering wheel. The V12 can purr discreetly in “coming home” mode or shout out its exhilarating power in the sport position. The sport exhaust adds some visual excitement with its two dual tailpipes - with regular or black chrome finish - exiting on both sides in front of the rear wheels.

The newly programmed engine electronics with special mapping for injection and ignition coordinates the perfect interaction of the high-performance components while at the same time ensuring compliance with EURO V emission standards. The high-performance lubricants for the entire powertrain are supplied by technology partner MOTUL.

The BRABUS 800 engine produces 800 hp (788 bhp) / 588 kW at a low 5,500 rpm and an even more impressive peak torque of 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft), already on tap from 2,100 rpm. In the vehicle, peak torque is limited electronically to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft).

The vehicle performance speaks volumes: In combination with the seven-speed automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel drive system the BRABUS 800 WIDESTAR accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.2 seconds. The top speed is limited electronically to 250 km/h (155 mph). Without the limiter the high-performance off-roader would be capable of reaching a speed of 270 km/h (168 mph).

It goes without saying that BRABUS goes beyond simply tuning the engine of the G 65 AMG. The designers lend the classic G-Class body updated for 2013 an even more striking and dynamic profile with the WIDESTAR wide-body version. The front of the off-roader is characterized, among other things, by the powerfully sculpted fender flares. The BRABUS front spoiler attaches to the production fascia and features integrated LED daytime running lights on the left- and right-hand side. But that’s not all: The BRABUS logos integrated into both sides of the aerodynamics component are activated by pulling on a door handle or by operating the keyless-entry remote.

The new look for the front is further defined by the front grille with integrated BRABUS logo and an additional panel below the radiator grille. The BRABUS front-end components are also available for all G 65 AMG models without WIDESTAR conversion. The same applies to the BRABUS rear fascia and the BRABUS roof spoiler.

The fender flares front and back add 12 centimeters (4.7 inches) to the width of the G-Class body. Integrated LEDs illuminate the running boards of the G 65. They are also activated by pulling on a door handle or by operating the keyless-entry remote. The integrated air vents and the BRABUS attachment components on the doors add further striking highlights when viewed from the side.

The widened wheel wells provide space for BRABUS forged wheels with a diameter of 23 inches. State-of-the-art manufacturing technology ensures that these wheels represent an ideal combination of lightweight design and maximum strength. There are three BRABUS “Platinum Edition” 11Jx23 wheels to choose from: In addition to the popular Monoblock E evo and Monoblock F “Platinum Edition” designs, there is now also the BRABUS Monoblock R “Platinum Edition” forged wheel. This design has nine double spokes arranged in two matt titanium and fully polished plains. It is fitted with high-performance tires in size

305/35 R 23 from BRABUS technology partners Continental, Pirelli or YOKOHAMA.

Another BRABUS high-tech feature is the Ride Control suspension developed in cooperation with technology partner BILSTEIN. An aluminum button sporting the BRABUS logo on the center console lets the driver manually choose between two setups for the two-way electrically adjustable shock absorbers. In comfort mode the off-roader provides exemplary ride comfort that even surpasses the production car. At higher speeds and for a spirited driving style the firmer sports setting offers more dynamic handling and even further increased safety reserves.

Furthermore, the BRABUS Ride Control suspension features automatic damper adjustment. If the vehicle sensors detect that certain parameters such as speed, lateral acceleration and steering angle might lead to a critical handling situation, the system autonomously switches to the firmer sports setting in the blink of an eye. The sportier damper setup further improves the directional stability of the all-wheel-drive vehicle. In return the CAN control unit also recognizes when the driver reverts to a more moderate driving style. In that event the system automatically switches back to the comfort position.

The interior of the G 65 AMG can be custom-tailored to the owner’s personal preferences in the BRABUS upholstery shop. The choice of colors for the especially softy and breathable BRABUS Mastik leather and the fine Alcantara is virtually limitless. Just as boundless is the selection of upholstery designs and the variety of exclusive wood or carbon-fiber inlays. In this area as well BRABUS can fulfill special color requests and designs, including wood inlays in an especially exclusive yachting design.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray is the most powerful standard model ever, with an estimated 450 horsepower (335 kW) and 450 lb.-ft. of torque (610 Nm). It is also the most capable standard model ever, able to accelerate from 0-60 in less than four seconds and achieve more than 1g in cornering grip. It is expected to be the most fuel-efficient Corvette, exceeding the EPA-estimated 26 mpg of the current model.

The all-new Corvette Stingray shares only two parts with the previous generation Corvette. It incorporates an all-new frame structure and chassis, a new powertrain and supporting technologies, as well as completely new exterior and interior designs. Highlights include:

• An interior that includes real carbon fiber, aluminum and hand-wrapped leather materials, two new seat choices – each featuring a lightweight magnesium frame for exceptional support – and dual eight-inch configurable driver/infotainment screens

• Advanced driver technologies, including a five-position Drive Mode Selector that tailors 12 vehicle attributes to the fit the driver’s environment and a new seven-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Matching that anticipates gear selections and matches engine speed for perfect shifts every time

• An all-new 6.2L LT1 V-8 engine combines advanced technologies, including direct injection, Active Fuel Management, continuously variable valve timing and an advanced combustion system that delivers more power while using less fuel

“Stingray is one of the hallowed names in automotive history,” said Ed Welburn, GM vice president of global design. “We knew we couldn’t use the Stingray name unless the new car truly lived up to the legacy. The result is a new Corvette Stingray that breaks from tradition, while remaining instantly recognizable as a Corvette the world over.”

The new Corvette Stingray will be built at GM’s Bowling Green, Ky., assembly plant, which underwent a $131-million upgrade, including approximately $52 million for a new body shop to manufacture the aluminum frame in-house for the first time.

“We believe the Corvette represents the future of modern performance cars because it delivers more power, more driving excitement and better fuel efficiency,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer. “The result is better performance by every measure. The 2014 Corvette delivers the fastest acceleration, the most cornering grip, the most track capability, the best braking performance and what we expect to be the best fuel economy ever for a standard Corvette.”

The owner of this particular 1965 Riviera was smitten by the styling of this factory custom and set out to find the best example he could get his hands on. He ended up with a nice example with a modern LS1 motor and transmission, however upon taking delivery of his new custom cruiser he was not as impressed by many of the details. Since

the Riv was kicking his new Maserati out of the garage and taking over daily driver status, a plan was hatched to make it a worthy replacement of the mighty Maser. He drove the car directly to Ultimate Auto in Orlando, FL for a complete overhaul and update. Ultimate Auto brought the Riviera into their 50,000 sq. ft. facility and expertly addressed the laundry list of requests by the owner. They handled everything in house, including, paint, interior, mechanical, audio, and custom fabrication.

The team at Ultimate Auto started out by removing the previously installed air suspension and replacing it with Ride Tech’s coil over suspension and Muscle Bar sway bar for a smooth ride and improved handling. Under the hood the LS1 was dressed up with Billet Specialties valve covers that hide the coil packs and give the modern engine a nice vintage look. A handcrafted engine cover was machined to match the valve covers and is the crown jewel under the hood. While under the hood, the firewall was shaved, along with all of the hoses and wiring tucked and detailed for a neat and tidy look. The brakes were updated with 4 way discs and an electric boost system that really minimizes under hood clutter and provides reliable, consistent braking power. A Magnaflow exhaust system is run underneath the car and provides a nice mellow tone and unleashes the fury when the hammer is dropped.

The roof of the Riviera was painted a deep gloss black for a nice two tone finish. The car came to Ultimate Auto with shaved doors, so billet door handles were added for a stylish touch and reliable operation. Hidden behind the clamshell covers, the headlights were replaced with modern halogen units, while the rest of the lighting has been upgraded to LED lights.

Inside, the crew at Ultimate updated the dash with new Classic Instruments gauges and analog clock. The a/c system had been replaced with a Vintage Air unit and the controller for it, along with the clock, and Pioneer Avic-Z140 radio were massaged into the center stack of the dash board. The whole dash was trimmed in real engine turned aluminum for a vintage yet high tech look. The Lokar shifter sits next to a custom LED lit gear shift indicator. A Billet Specialties steering wheel and pedal set compliment the looks of the dash, while modified, modern GTO seats were recovered to match the original rear seats. The stereo system in the car has been upgraded with a complete JL Audio sound system. Two pairs of C3 component speakers were mounted in the custom built kick panels and rear deck. Two 8W3 subwoofers are visible in the plexiglass, band pass, enclosure in the trunk. The entire system is powered by an HD 900/5 amplifier for exemplary clarity and performance. The interior updates make this vintage cruiser into a daily drivable car without compromises. I’m sure Bill Mitchell would approve, and needless to say, that Maserati is now looking for a new home.

Bernar Venet remarks, “A Bugatti is already a work of art in itself, one that transports both its beholder and its driver into new dimensions of reality. I realized how I could translate my passion for mathematical equations and scientific treatises into three-dimensional form. My works are usually self-referential. So I found the idea of translating the equations of the Bugatti engineers onto the bodywork of the car very appealing. It was, so to speak, a logical conclusion and a new challenge in terms of the specific form of collaboration and implementation. To me, the result is also exceptional when measured by artistic standards and bestows the object with a mythical character.”

The artistic avant-gardes of the first half of the twentieth century found inspiration in the car as an object of desire; they depicted it in drawings, paintings and sculptures that projected absolute

French artist Bernar Venet has been invited by Bugatti, legendary supercar-maker, to create a work of art that

combines the artist’s vision and passions with Bugatti’s celebrated Grand Sport. Through a congenial synthesis of artistic concept and technical possibilities, Venet has created an object that integrates the symbol of speed with a fascinating, painterly exterior and an interior that alludes to haute couture. This one-of-a-kind sculptural work will be on view at the Rubell Family Collection in Miami during Art Basel Miami Beach.

speed as their point of orientation. In the 1970s, the car served as an unconventional canvas for many artists, such as Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, who painted what became known as “art cars”. This practice continued to be embraced in the 1980s.

Since the 1990s, international artists have concentrated on exploring the shifting cultural historical significance of the car. This has resulted in sculptural and conceptual responses such as those by Erwin Wurm, Gabriel Orozco, Christoph Keller, Olafur Eliasson and Damian Ortega, which tend to contextualize the car as a paradigm for the acute social and cultural changes of a globalized world.

Bernar Venet´s approach is radically

different from these movements and art works. He takes on the Bugatti Grand Sport by selecting a totally original solution, which distinguishes itself from the more traditional work of his predecessors. The application of mathematical formulae calculating the enormous power of the Bugatti engine on the car itself, allows him to implement the self-referential character inherent for his paintings. In doing so he pays tribute to the genius of technological science as well as the German Know-How of automobile production.

In his 2012 artistic adaptation and exploration of the Bugatti Grand Sport Bernar Venet has combined image and object to highlight the fascination with this model’s absolute beauty and speed. His work unites a conceptual approach and sculptural

craft on equal footing. In this work for Bugatti, Venet links the Pop artists’ claim to the car as a canvas with the utilization of every technical and aesthetic means available for designing the fastest and costliest car in the world today. Venet incorporates signs taken from the realm of production into his visual idiom and creates a total work of art that harmonizes object and outer surface, interior and exterior, and evokes the exhilarating speed of the Bugatti Grand Sport.

The Rubells have a long history with the artist, and Mera Rubell notes, “Our friendship with Bernar Venet began in the mid-1970s. Our young families bonded over dinners and great conversations in his SoHo loft. The children played and the adults engaged in endless talk about contemporary art. Don [Rubell] and Bernar have always shared an obsession with the beauty and complexities of mathematics. When

we met Bernar he was already an accomplished artist and a very intuitive collector of emerging art. We benefitted from his generous insight into the artist’s perspective and his artwork has been part of our collection since the 1970s. Bernar’s life-long, signature obsession with mathematical formulas has found a ready-made canvas on the Bugatti, which is both original and dynamic. We’re proud to present the Venet/Bugatti collaboration at our Foundation’s museum.”
