PROTECTING TRANSFORMER ASSETS PAYS FOR ITSELF

OUR ABILITY TO REDUCE/MANAGE CRITICAL PATH TIME DURING AN OUTAGE INSTALL IS ANOTHER OF OUR VALUE ADDED SERVICES

Case History

Page 21: Luse Barrier Wall Extended View

THE BEFORE PICTURE

Page 22: Luse Barrier Wall Extended View

A fire started at a single transformer in an Arizona utility substation around 7 P.M.

July 4, 2004.

Page 23: Luse Barrier Wall Extended View

View of the first transformer where fire event began

Page 24: Luse Barrier Wall Extended View

Fire then spread to an adjacent transformer

Page 25: Luse Barrier Wall Extended View

Then a third transformer is impacted

Page 26: Luse Barrier Wall Extended View

And finally a fourth transformer joins the party

Page 27: Luse Barrier Wall Extended View

A DuraBarrier would have contained the fire at the first transformer and stopped the spread to the second, third and fourth transformers potentially saving a large part of the multi-million loss for the replacement of the 4 transformers. This cost did not include the loss of power to the electrical grid and business disruptions that occurred until replacement equipment was installed.

The result of the fire

What is a Fire & Impact Barrier?

A light weight, removable steel & composite panel fire & explosion impact barrier that affords an alternative to concrete, masonry, gypsum and other materials.

Design Allows for Flexibility & Difficult Site Conditions

Limited space between transformers Existing structures High voltage clearances Underground obstructions Maintenance access Limited shutdown window Other (oil containment, module wt etc)

Page 58: Luse Barrier Wall Extended View

Bolt-up Panelized System

Reduced shutdown time to install.

Can be temporarily removed.

No field welding, formwork or scaffolding.

Pre-engineered for site location.

Page 59: Luse Barrier Wall Extended View

Light Weight

Modular panels weigh 6 to 9 psf vs. 48 psf for 4” pre-cast concrete panels.

Smaller crane for installation & temporary removal.

Minimal seismic loads.

Panel sizes can be limited for hand lifting.
