Chovar Hiking After the huge success of Candle walk, Chovar hiking was the next annual project of RC Lalitpur where members could relax after completing loads of work in making candle walk a successful event. About 18 members showed up for hiking. All the members gathered at Mangal Bazar and moved at around 5:30 am. It was fun walking with all the Rotaractor friends. Everyone enjoyed the hike.

Ps Meet The main discussion on the PS meet was fully based on the Agendas that were forwarded to the District by different clubs through their respective Zones. Total of 16 agendas were there to be discussed upon. Among which some agendas were passed and some were rejected and some of them weren’t even discussed. There we saw that many club presidents had their own opinion about the agendas and couldn’t come to a concrete decision. The session was divided into two sections. Before lunch each agenda was provided with just 10 minutes whereas after the lunch we discussed about the agendas for longer period of time. It was clear that people who were to vote cannot decide to go in the favor of or against the agenda and choose not to vote. There was presentation regarding Cancer as well. There were some musical performances which helped in relaxing the participants. Elect DRR Rtr. Amit Bajracharya presented the details regarding Board for Rota year 2014-15. There was the announcement for the district Council which will be held in St. Xavier School and the detail registration procedure and timing was announced. The whole program was extended to 6pm.

My experience of Candle walk 1134 After joining the Rotaract club of Lalitpur on influence of my friends and my personal interest, I was finding the club activities very fun and informative as well. Then there came one of the major events of the club i.e. Candle walk 1134. I had participated in the event but

never as an organizer team. So, I was already excited and more to that I was given the opportunity to host the program as a MC. I was never going to let the chance go away and so I grabbed it and went on for

the MC practice sessions. I had been hosting different events but I had never hosted any event in Newari language so it was a challenge for me and an opportunity to learn more on my mothertoungue. Me along with three other rotaractors were there as MCs. Sanjal and Naina were paired up and I was paired with

Prakriti. My fellow partners were great companions and help to me. Especially Sanjal helped me lot with the script writing as he had already experienced the job. Thanks to him! We all met many times for script

writing and practising at different locations sometimes at Sanjal’s residence and more times at Manka Khala, Dupat. Daily all of the rotaractors along with me used to meet at the meeting venue and give updates on the specific job we were assigned. Finally after long practises, script writings, meetings and all, the event day showed up and we were full prepared, determined to do the best and make the event grand. I and Prakriti

were to MC for the official program which was after the cultural part. The program commenced and it was our time to get on the dias and speak. There for a fraction of time I felt the chill but told to myself that I can do it and so I did and hope I did well. I was telling Prakriti to calm down and we would do just fine.

Pravin dai was there for our support and he was a sign of relief as well and thanks to him. The time passed so swiftly that I came to no notice of completion of the official part. Then the candle walk was to begin. I

was dressed in Daura Suruwal so was told to be at the starting of the rally. It was great fun to walk and cheer for the Newari New Year with friends. The roller coaster moment of Candle walk came to an end after we

reached at Mangalbazzar after the walk. Overall my exerience in a word was AWESOME!

Kartik Nach is one of the important tantric masked dances done in honour of Lord Kumar in the month of Kartik (October-November).The dance is performed as a thanks giving

to Lord Kumar for his protection to the community. Various incidents of the life of

Kartikeya (Kumar) are enacted in the Kartik dance. Kumar also known as Bhairava who is the patron deity of Newar of Patan and

elsewhere. The gentler aspect of Kartikeya is Kumar while Bhairava is fear-inspiring and

warlike.

Kartik Naach, one of the pearl immersed out from ocean of Nepali culture is the annual

ritual dance drama on Kartik Dabali (stage of Patan Durbar Square). During the first seven days, various dances used to be performed and on the eighth day, a man dressed up as Narsingh, Lord Vishnu disguising himself as a giant demon, used to kill another man

dressed up as Hiranyakashyap, an evil demon as illustrated in Hindu legends. The final two

days of the dance festival is important and are performed on Kartik Sukla Dwadashi and Thrayodashi – the twelfth and the thirteenth day of bright half of Kartik, according to the

lunar calendar.“The main focus of the play is evident: good

eventually triumphs over evil.”

The Kartik Nach, as an event, was first established by the devout King Siddhi

Narsingh Malla in the 17th century, during the Malla Era which begins after establishing the Natyeswar from hills in Baghdwar, Shivapuri

in Saugal of Lalitpur.

Naacartik

The Kartik Naach that among others attributes the characteristic of tantrik power has acquired the name since it falls in the month of Kartik

(October-November). It is based on Narsimha’s exploits as described on Vishnu Puran, a most appropriate holy sourcebook, as it focuses on describing the various incarnations of Lord

Vishnu.

When preacher becomes atheist!!!

We all are well confronted with the fact that Tobacco represents one of the most essential public health issues around the world today. Over one billion smokers worldwide and many millions are using tobacco products, creating great health hazards around the world creatting an adverse health effects on the human body contributing to the major causes of death and also to the people around a smoker. Likewise, Prevalence of tobacco use is considerably high among Nepalese people and is becoming increasingly frequent. According to the Health Statistics, in case of Tobacco consumption in terms of the total adult smokers, Nepal lies on 17th position whereas According to the Health Statistics, in case of Cigarette consumption (most recent), Nepal lies on 68th position.

Despite the negative effects of smoking, the healthcare profession and teachers is not entirely smoke-free, an issue which must be addressed as this group is on the frontlines of tobacco control. They taught the deleterious consequences of smoking on health, and yet some continue to be smokers. In relevance to this, a mini survey was conducted by group of students including me along with five other members in various hospitals and colleges considering two professions: teachers and health professionals as a project of critical thinking. This report is prepared on the basis of the data collected through questionnaire process among 50 health professionals and 50 teachers. According to it, 42 percent were non-smokers, while 46 percent were currently smoking, and 12 percent were ex-smokers. In which 14 male and 3 female in health

This increasing number of current smokers clearly depicts that in spite of health professionals and teachers being well informed about the health risks of smoking, and many of them currently giving advice on smoking cessation to their patients and students, they have not implemented it on their own lives giving a way to debate on them playing a key role in promoting abstinence from tobacco. These professionals who smoke may not be as effective in counseling patients and students to quit smoking as professionals who do not smoke. The professionals who smoke have the potential to affect unintentionally the smoking behaviors of others through modeling.
