        Making the Blocks 1. Draw a diagonal line on one end of (32) fabric G rectangles with the line drawn from the center to the upper right corner. Draw a diagonal line on one end the remaining fabric G rectangles with the line drawn from the center to the upper left corner. Place a marked rectangle on one end of a fabric C rectangle. Sew on the marked line.  

Trim leaving a ¼" seam allowance and press. Repeat to sew a marked rectangle on the opposite end of the fabric C rectangle. Be sure to position the marked rectangles as shown. Make (32) units. 

2. Sew (4) units from step 1, (4) fabric C squares, and (1) fabric A square together to make a block.  Make (8) blocks. 

3. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of each fabric E square. Place a marked square on opposite corners of a fabric H, fabric I, or fabric J square, right sides together. Sew along the drawn line. Trim leaving a ¼"‐wide seam allowance. Press toward the triangles. Repeat to sew marked squares to the two remaining corners. Make (18) square‐in‐square border blocks.  

Assembling the Quilt Top

4. Sew (4) blocks from step 2 together to make a block row; press. Make (2) block rows.

5. Measure the length of the block rows and trim four 1½"‐wide fabric D strips to this measurement. Sew a trimmed 

strip to the top and bottom of each block row; press. 

6. Sew the block rows from step 5 and the fabric B strips together, alternating them as shown in the photo; press. 

7. Sew five 1½"‐wide fabric D strips together end to end. From the long strip, cut two 54½"‐long strips and sew them to the sides of the quilt. From the remaining long strip, cut two 42½"‐long strips and sew them to the top and bottom of the quilt top. Press all seams toward the newly added borders. 

8. Sew the 3"‐wide fabric F strips together end to end. From the long strip, cut two 56½"‐long strips and sew them to the sides of the quilt. From the remaining long strip, cut two 47½"‐long strips and sew them to the top and bottom of the quilt top. Press all seams toward the newly added borders. 

9. Sew the remaining 1½"‐wide fabric D strips together end to end. From the long strip, cut two 61½"‐long strips and sew them to the sides of the quilt. From the remaining long strip, cut two 49½"‐long strips and sew them to the top and bottom of the quilt top. Press all seams toward the newly added borders. 

10. Sew (5) fabric A squares and (4) border blocks together, alternating them as shown at right to make a border row; press. Make (2) and sew them to the sides of the quilt top. 

11. Sew (5) border blocks and (4) fabric A squares together, alternating them as shown below to make a border row; press. Make (2) and sew them to the top and bottom of the quilt top. 

12. Sew the 4¼" fabric K strips together end to end. From the long strip, cut two 77½"‐long strips and sew them to the sides of the quilt. From the remaining long strip, cut two 71"‐long strips and sew them to the top and bottom of the quilt top. Press all seams toward the newly added borders. 

13. Layer the quilt top with batting and backing. Quilt as desired. Using the 2¼" fabric L strips; prepare and sew the 

binding to the quilt top. Add a label to the back of your quilt. 

Window Valance - Approx. 15" deep 

(Note: The amount of fabric you require depends on the size of your window.) 

Measure the width of your window; multiply this number by 1.5, to add fullness. Cut a 10½" strip of fabric B, centering the motif in the middle of the strip. Trim the length of your strip to match the calculated amount needed for your window. From fabric G, cut as many 2½" strips as needed to make a strip the length of the stripe fabric. Sew the strips end to end and trim to this length. Sew the fabric G strip to the bottom of the fabric B stripe. Then cut as many 3½" fabric G strips as needed to make a strip the length of the stripe fabric. Sew the strips end to end, trim to length and sew to the top of the fabric B stripe. 

Cut as many 15½" fabric E strips as needed to make a strip the length of the fabric B stripe. Sew the strips end to end and trim to length. With right sides together, sew the stripe fabric unit to the fabric E piece along their long edges with a ¼" seam allowance. Turn right side out and press. 

Press the ends under ½". Sew along the top edge, through both layers, about 1" from the edge. Measure the circumference of your rod, divide by 2 and add ¼". Sew a 2nd line of stitching the measured distance below the first seam to form the pocket for the rod. Sew the side edges together below the rod pocket by topstitching ⅛" from the edge through all the layers. Insert the rod into the rod pocket.
