My favorite place My favorite place in Sweden is the archipelago in Luleå. I have been in the archipelago for all my life because we have owned a boat since I was born. The archipelago in Luleå consists of 1312 islands, but it´s only on a dozen of them that there is a jetty and a sauna. At a few Islands there´s also a restaurant. Luleå´s archipelago is one of the most beautiful in Sweden and it is famous for its rich and different plant- and animal life. Here is a short presentation of our three most popular islands to visit.

Hindersön

One of the biggest islands in Luleå is Hindersön. Since the 16th century people have lived at the island, but today there are just a few persons that live there all the year. On Hindersön there is a guesthouse where you can eat or sleep. Many people that live in Luleå go to Hindersön to celebrate our tradition "Midsommar“ in June.

KluntarnaKluntarna is one of the most interesting islands to visit if you want to experience the entire archipelago in one place. Kluntarna has a different animal- and plant life. On the island there are paths where you can see labyrinths and “kluntgubben” which is a large rock that resembles a human head in profile.

Sandögrynnorna-Skvalpen

On this island you find the best beach in Luleå archipelago, so if you want to bath - this is the right place! There were two separate islands that over time have become intertwined to one. The island is mainly composed of sand, so it´s easy to find your own beach. On the island there are many rare species of birds, for that reason is one part of island a nature reserve. So people are just allowed to visit that part from the first of August.

The archipelago in Winter

In winter you can also visit the archipelago, but then by car because there are plowed ice roads to the biggest islands. I would say that it´s a really cool experience to do, because it´s a special feeling to be transported by car over water.
