Europian Rally Championship

What is the ERC?

With the first FIA European Rally Championship contested in 1953, the ERC is the oldest inter-national rally series in the world. Events take place between January and November on asphalt, gravel, ice and snow with competitive distances ranging from 215 to 300 kilometres.

There are titles for drivers, co-drivers and manufacturers, including the prestigious overall ERC crown, ERC Production Car Cup and ERC 2WD Championship. The ERC Junior Championship is new for 2014 for drivers under 25 in R2 cars on Michelin tyres. The ERC Ladies’ Trophy and Colin McRae ERC Flat Out Trophy are up for grabs on every event.

Surface specialists are recognised through three new accolades created by Eurosport Events, the ERC promoter under a 10 -year agreement with the FIA. The ERC Asphalt, Gravel and Ice Masters will be handed out in honour of the drivers who perform best on those surfaces during the sea-son.

Drivers count their best four scores from the first six rounds and their best four scores from the remaining events. ERC Juniors count their best four scores from the seven nominated rounds, including at least one loose -surface event. ERC Ladies count their best four scores. FIA and ERC priority drivers take part in Free Practice before contesting a Qualifying Stage to determine start-ing order for leg one. There’s shakedown for all other drivers.

All rounds are filmed and produced for television –some live –by Eurosport Events with expanded coverage on Eurosport. A dedicated website, Fiaerc.com, is up dated daily and features news, videos, results and points plus links to social media channels and ERC Rally Radio.
