Supply Chain Broadcast

In collaboration with the University of Amsterdam’s International Development Master and Juhee Hahm.

An audiovisual series investigating coffee supply chains in Kenya and the Netherlands.

By collecting stories from different supply chain communities (farmers, importers, auctioneers etc) and sharing these throughout the chain we aimed to increase awareness of the wider coffee industry, empowering social change within it. Many people we interviewed had no idea of the industries full extent so we were able to share new experiences with them; for example farmers tasting coffee for the first time. Supply Chain City

Data analysis Physical ideation

A speculative future for the global coffee industry. Informed by my interviews and recent innovations.

Supply Chain City is a fully autonomous socioeconomic entity, somewhere between a city and a state. With no fixed geographic borders, it is instead centred around common economic and social goals decided by all its citizens, with the help of sentient algorithms. Along with a text and illustrations, I designed a series of interactive objects to bring the world to life and make the research accessible to a wider audience, for example shipping container VR headsets for communication along the supply chain.

Well Told Story empower social change in Kenya and Tanzania. As well as digital content production I was involved in ‘Ground Truth’ field research, organising interviews/photo shoots and mapping the institutional culture in the form of my own comic about the creation of Shujaaz.

Live data visualisation on Champions and Europa League match nights, responding to specific events as they unfolded to engage with football fans across the globe.

Script development and writing Set and costume design

A performance at the Dutch National Opera. It depicts the struggle for representation in an age of deregulated employment.

The story follows delivery workers searching for certainties in their work. Amidst traditional trade unions, the flexible platform economy and hidden contract clauses they must discover an effective way to fight for their rights. Content was gathered through work in the platform economy, joining trade union protests and interviewing experts. The opera offers a cathartic space of reflection for those involved.

Collaboration with the Dutch National Opera, the FNV, Riders Union, Jack Waghorn and Mattius van Malta.

Radio SE10

A portable performance prototype designed to encourage the sharing of diverse perspectives.

With students and staff at Ravensbourne UK.

Whilst at Ravensbourne I helped to set up and run radio SE10. People could broadcast anything from discussions to ideas or their favourite music. This mobile village hall acted as the centre of the SE10 community, gluing together the digital offshoots in physical space. I also designed and wrote a publication documenting the whole experience.

CircMap

CircMap allows users to build circular resource flows and discover their position in a global circular economy. It works across any device with a phone signal, so even the most rural farmers can use it.

A social network concept for the circular economy. There are ample options for business networking online, but it’s difficult to find digital tools set up for doing business with sustainable values.

Feeling Brave?

There are a total of 10 sessions, starting with generating a body of ideas, then sharing them amongst collaborators and finally creating an outcome that is well considered, effective and, most importantly, courageous.

An iterative design process used to produce unexpected and original outcomes. From initial concept through to project completion the user is guided on a journey of creative discovery, which concludes in a realistically useful and totally tangible outcome.

Rebrand for a Soho restaurant.

Traditional sushi preparation was the starting point for this visual language, implemented across a range of touch points. The heavier weighted pattern and type represent the physical movements involved in making sushi. The lighter elements emulate the ingredients and the delicate nori wrap.

Feeding the Future

Exhibition design

Feeding the future was a proposed exhibition to promote awareness of our global food network.

The first section of the exhibition details the magnitude of its’ impacts on us and our environment. The second area is an interactive exploration of the possibilities for solving food problems in the future. Including cooking demonstrations, a two course meal, and an app for colelcting information.

WRU.2?

Exhibition design

WRU.2? is a machine programmed to define human, it is capable of semi intelligent conversation.

This reverse Turing test asked users to have a brief conversation with what they percieved to be a machine, at the end of which it would define their level of humanity.

By highlighting our growing preference for robotic filtering of conversation I wanted to question the natural assumption that there is a difference between human and machine. The conversations also document how warped our mannerisms can become when we believe we are communicating with a computer.
