19 "There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day.20 "But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate,21 "desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.22 "So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.23 "And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.24 "Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.'25 "But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented..

26 'And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.'27 "Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house,28 'for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.'29 "Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'30 "And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.'31 "But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.” - Luke 16:19-31.

Very rich, but lost his soul!

Important things to consider...

Wealth and prosperity…

Where our focus should be!

For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? - Matthew 16:26.

17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; 19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. - I Timothy 6:17-19.

IT IS NOT...

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

It was no longer something to be wondered about;

he was there!

26 'And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.'27 "Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house,28 'for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.'29 "Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'30 "And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.'31 "But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.” - Luke 16:19-31.

This torment was permanent!


Punishment is eternal…

Annihilation! or for a

limited time!

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: - Matthew 25:41.

IT IS NOT...

44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

We learn about Repentance...

A continuing to live as I want!

But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance - Acts 26:20.

IT IS NOT...

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

In death he could not change his fate!

Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. - James 4:14.
