To re-think the typical behaviour and interaction between customers and sellers in a retail kiosk space.

The proposal is based in a previous spatial and morphological study of one of the most efficient -all in one- retail spaces. The study of the “in-formal industry” all over the world (predominantly in third world countries). Where, mobility, maximized use of a contained space, efficiency, ease of construction and use, etc. had become the key factor of their success.

An informal study of materials and ways to use the object vs space, customer vs seller, display vs security, have been developed constantly by this “empirical designers/architects/sellers” with outstanding results throughout history.

Our goal, to mimic and to follow this model of maximized use of space, plus a total renewable use of materials (ex. Re-use Hawai’i as a primary supplier of salvage materials). And also to add another way to interact between these two agents. Customer (demand) and Seller (offer). Proposing not just a place for typical retail activities, but an integral space where the customer can see/buy the offered items (mobility/flow of people) but also, a place that is more static, a place where you can sit and gather with other people that share the same interests as you in time and in space (Before a Ballet show, intermission of the show).

- An adaptable object/space (kiosk) that can interact in all their faces (programmatic boxes) offering different ways to approach to it de-pending on your status.- An object/space (kiosk) that can work as an individual cell or can work linked to the other Kiosk, depending on the available space at the site.- An object/space totally or in its most part, re-usable, re-invented, re-newable by the use of “already-used” materials.

WEcycleImagine living in a community where the bus stops have bikes for you to exercise with while waiting for your bus to arrive. These bikes are connected to a converter that turn the kinetic energy generated by your peddling into electricity. And in turns, these electricity help power the light fixtures that keep the bus stops lit and safe. And what do you get out of it? Fitness, fun and free bus rides!

That’s right. When you have generated a certain amount of energy, you can redeem your hard work for a bus pass. And that’s not all. These bus stops are equipped with photovoltaic panels to collect sunlight and convert them into energy while you’re not peddling. Based on the bus stop locations, the roofs are designed and positioned to maximize solar energy collection. To take advantage of the wind, windmills can be mounted on the roof to generate wind power. Rainwater can also be collected from the roofs to water the green walls that shelter the bus stops.

Potentially, these mobile community gyms can be constructed in any un-used public/private space; such as rooftops of commercial, residential, and government buildings. People are no longer working out in windowless basement gyms. They can be up on the roofs, exercising and enjoying the view.

These roofs, water basins, and green walls are intended to be built using recycled materials in modular system. The photovoltaic panels and con-verters are sponsored by the local electric company. They are prefabricated and dismountable. If necessary, they can be relocated easily to another community and city.

The same design and principles can be applied to train stations and all sorts of mass transit terminals. Not only will these stations become self sufficient in terms of energy and water use, but they will also be a fun gathering place. Waiting for your bus and train to arrive is no longer a boring routine. Your time will be well spent keeping yourself fit and contributing to the community. We hope to see these WEcycle stations spread across the land!
