Ludmila Curilova was born (1952) in Kishinev, Moldova. She was raised in an atmosphere of artistic exploration. Her father was a set designer and scene painter for Moldova's National Theatre of Opera and Ballet. Her mother was a ballerina at the same theatre company and together they instilled a love and appreciation for the arts in all their children. As a result, one of Ludmila's brothers is also an artist, another is a famous Eastern European writer. In 2001 Ludmila Curilova left her country and moved to Canada. Symbolism plays an important role in her paintings; some of these symbols are understandable to everyone and others have a very private meaning. “I still believe in fairy tales. While Ludmila uses traditional media and tools, acrylic paint, brushes and art knives, she also experiments with small clay sculpture, hand building and hand cutting the pieces and then finishing them with stains and glazes. Her images bring to life that fantasy world that lives within her mind

The works of Klint, Micheal Vrubel and Vasnetsov inspires Curilova.  Constant themes in her work are the different paths in life and the modern woman versus the fairy tale.  She has always had a love for fashion and this is evident in her stylized women.  Through fashion in her paintings she shows the figures level of society and their beliefs.  Curilova’s women invite the viewer into their world, one filled with beauty, mystery and love
