Boart Longyear introduces metal coated diamond impregnated bits -the latest in industrial diamond technology.• Significantly outperforms the successful Series range in both drilling
speed and bit life.• Protects the diamond from oxidation and surface degradation
during manufacturing.• Inhibits the premature "pull-out" of the diamond.• Increases the number of cutting edges exposed to the rock.• Available in multiple standard configurations and selected on the
basis of relative rock hardness and ground conditions.
Impregnated Bits
* Available on special request.
NOTE: Refer to the Tech Data section for technical specifications andthe ITHT Product Manual or the Diamond Products FieldManual for additional operating information.
Standard: Designed to handle a wide variety of formations.
Abrasive: Recommended for broken "abrasive" drilling condtions. Forharder rock with broken conditions use a higher number bit tomaintain good drilling speeds.
Competent: Free cutting design for fast penetration in very hard"competent" rock or for use on lower powered rigs and geotechnicalapplications.
Express Geometry: Bits are supplied with additional intermediatewaterways which provide increased flushing. The reduced bit facearea allows for higher penetration rates with less bit weight required.Recommended when polishing occurs with standard geometry.
NOTE: "Standard Gauge" bits are defined as having a set outsidediameter which is 0.38mm (0.015") smaller than "ReamingShell Gauge". For more detailed information on "StandardGauge vs Reaming Shell Gauge" impregnated bits, refer tothe ITHT Product Manual.
The recommended practice, particularly in deep holes, is to alternatetwo reaming shells in each hole drilled to maintain hole diameter.Upon bit changes, the reaming shell should be checked for wear withthe bit and shell wear gauge. Failure to observe these recommendedpractices may result in either a poorly stabilized bit or an undersizedhole that will require costly reaming.
Surface Set and Impregnated Reaming ShellA full range of surface set and impregnated reaming shells areavailable to suit your needs.

BW Standard Impregnated Casing Shoe 4102625BW Surface Set Casing Shoe 4102631
Casing ShoeThe inside diameter of the casing shoe is not set with diamonds andis flush with the inside diameter of the casing, permitting free passageof the core barrel past the casing shoe.
Applications:• The casing shoe is threaded to the end of the casing string for
penetration through overburden.• Assists in seating the casing into the bedrock, providing a tight
seal for the drilling fluids to flow through to the surface.• Used to drill in casing for hole stabilization of surface or
underground holes when poor ground conditions are encountered(i.e. overburden, fault zones, etc.).
• Used for applications when casing is set in grout/cement forstuffing box installation at the collar of the hole.
Casing Advancer Shoes
BW Impregnated Casing Advancer Shoe 4101792
A selection of Casing Shoe Bits to ream over drill pipe of core barrelsare available.
Contact your Boart Longyear customer service representative forassistance.
NOTE: Refer to the ITHT Product Manual or the Diamond ProductsField Manual for additional operating information.
Bit and Shell Wear GaugeAs good practice, the diameter of impregnated bits and reamingshells should be measured. This will ensure that the hole size ismaintained. Impregnated bits typically maintain their gauge untiltotally consumed. All holes should be collared with a full gauge reaming shell. Ondeeper holes, two or more shells should be alternated in the hole tomaintain the hole size. Reaming shells should be gauged frequentlythroughout drilling operations to avoid costly reaming of undersizedholes.
NOTE: Refer to the ITHT Product Manual or the Diamond ProductsField Manual for additional operating information.
Hard Chrome StripsIn order to improve the protection of the blank for bits, reaming shell,or casing shoes, strips of hard chrome can be applied over the fulllength of the bit shank.
Super Flush WaterwaysWaterway designs can be altered in width to allow for an improvedpassage of drilling fluids.
Reinforced WaterwaysFor surface set bits, matrix protection can be provided by supplyingtungsten carbide inserts on the leading edge of the waterways.
Specialty ProductsBoart Longyear manufactures other special products such as PCDand TSD bits, hole openers and non-coring bits to complete thediamond product line. Contact your Boart Longyear customer servicerepresentative for more information.

The field proven, LTK60 Thin Kerf Conventional Coring System offersa cost effective, high production alternative to conventional wider kerfcore barrels. The Thin Kerf core barrel was designed for optimumproduction and core recovery in medium to extra hard formations.Small, lightweight circulation pumps can provide the low drilling fluidflow rates required. The use of water or polymer based drilling fluids isdesirable (clay based drilling muds are not recommended due to thesmall annulus between the inner and outer tubes). The low bit weightnecessary to run thin wall impregnated bits reduces wear and tear onthe drill and rods, and improves core recovery in highly fracturedground.
By minimizing on bit kerf, Boart Longyear has effectively increasedcore size in a "B" size hole to the point where nearly "N" size core isretrieved. This makes the LTK60 core barrel system the logical choicefor conventional drilling programs.

LTK60 core barrels may be extended from 1.5 m to 3.0 m or 4.5 m,or 3 m to 6 m lengths in consolidated ground conditions. LTK60inner and outer tubes consist of box and pin thread connections, which eliminates the need for inner tube couplings.
Example A: To extend a 1.5 m core barrel to a 3.0 m core barrel,add the following:• 1-inner tube 1.5 m• 1-outer tube 1.5 m
Boart Longyear has developed an innovative and practical approachto selecting the best core barrel for your drilling application. Thisapproach incorporates a standard core barrel consisting of the headassembly, inner tube components, outer tube components, the In-The-Hole Tools Product Manual and Safety Poster. To order thestandard configuration core barrel, select a 1.5 m or 3.0 m core barrelpart number from the standard core barrel page.
There are also options available for standard product which areindicated by a “ ”. A listing of the options available appears on theinner/outer tube options sections. If you would like to substitute thestandard product for these options, select a 1.5 m or 3.0 m corebarrel part number from the standard core barrel page and specify alloptional parts and part numbers from this section.
Packaging Information
Core barrel parts are packaged exclusively to provide the customerwith the ability to assemble the core barrel with the ideal configurationto the drilling application.

1 3544361 BWJLW Drill Rod, 1.5 m 8.5 18.71 3544303 BWJLW Drill Rod, 3.0 m 15.0 33.1
WJ Lightweight drill rod:• Friction welded pin and box ends.• Decreased rod body wall thickness to reduce weight.• Two identification grooves on the pin end allows for easy location
of joints in the drill string.• Z-50 Thread Compound (p/n 306486, 8 kg pail) is the
recommended thread lubricant to reduce wear and the possibility ofgalling during drilling operations.
• To reduce the friction between the walls of the hole and the drillrod, apply rod grease (p/n 62796) to the surface of the drill rods.Rod grease also reduces in-hole vibration, increasing tool andequipment service life.
Drill rods MUST be pretorqued with the minimum recommendedmake-up torque to preload the box and pin prior to drilling. Drillingtorque alone will not make-up the joint. Drilling operating torqueshould never exceed make-up torque.
LTK60 core barrel inner and outer tubes are
manuafactured to metric lengths and are best suited for use withmetric rods.
NOTE: Drill rods are sold by the bundle, see Packaging Informationsection.Refer to the Tech Data section for technical specifications andthe ITHT Product Manual for additional operating information.
