2 Pin LED Tube Lights are a solutionthat has combined the needs of easy and safe tube fitting with a unique solution to the electrical and mechanical protection of LED circuits within the dimensions of an existing tube light. C&D have utilised proven LEDs and adapted them to the railway rolling stock sector offering a variety of tube lengths and operating voltages to cover the needs of rail assets.

Eliminated the need for separate electrical inverters, C&D tubes are able to plug in directly to existing light fittings on the trains with minimal wiring modification or costly changes to surrounding panels.

DRIVER CAB CONTROLS0330 Series Rotary Actuator - N309B1 is Craig & Derricott’s 20A Mini-Rotary Switch, built to meet the rigours of the Rail environment. Ergonomically designed the ‘30 Series’ actuator is complete with a positive position indicator.

OptionsThere are many standard switch sequences available and almost any specific contact arrangements can be accommodated. This can vary the length of the switch. A robust stainless steel latching cover can be added to switches with 90o indexing positions.

The four distinct knob styles all provide a high degree of visual indication. Unrestricted switch sequences are preferred, however restricted movement switches can be supplied. The contact configuration is at the discretion of the specifier.

03Passenger Communication Panels that are designed for passengers tocontact the driver/guard has moved on considerably since the days of the ‘pull chain’. Upon activation of the momentary pushbutton head or grab-handle, the driver receives a signal that remains activated until they are in a position to acknowledge and take suitable action.

Most of the panels these days allow for audio communications but Craig & Derricott has been making audio and non-audio devices for many years.

With the introduction of ‘Disable Access’ regulations additional ‘call for aid’ alarms will be required by vehicle builders. Craig & Derricott has experience in the design and manufacture of such items.

01Master Controllers are designed to enablethe driver to set the running mode of the train i.e. Restricted forward or reverse speed for shunting, full speed manual, intermediate, auto and shutdown. These functions are selected using a six position selector knob driving a gear linked multibank array of rotary switches.

A key operated security interlock must be unlocked before the operating knob can be moved from the shutdown position. The key is trapped until the selector is returned to the shutdown position.

02Directional Switches are designedfor mounting directly into the drivers cab desk, the protection of which will prevent dust and water ingress. A pollution degree of PD3 is permissible.

These switches are used for selecting the direction of the train with Off and Neutral positions. The switch can be locked in the Off position through the use of the drivers key.

When properly installed in the working position, all electrical clearances shall comply with the appropriate railway standards.

Each switch terminal is individually marked in accordance with the customers drawing. To clarify the precise marking, each terminal is marked as close as possible to, and on the same switch base that contains the terminal. An additional ‘<’ or ‘>’ symbol may be used to identify a specific terminal in complex situations.

04Drum Switch Uncouplers units compriseof a multi-function electrical switch control module together with pneumatic valve controls. Supplied in various enclosures depending on the location of installation.

The uncoupler operates by allowing the wedgelock coupler heads to isolate electrical and pneumatic circuits through the autocouplers. This sequence of operations then enables cars to be coupled and uncoupled allowing changes in car arrangements, train lengths etc.

Craig & Derricott have been supplying uncouplers to the rail market for many years and have been installed in:

05Isolation switches are used to ensure that anelectrical current is completely de-energized for service or maintenance on the train. Craig & Derricott offer range of isolation switches which can be installed in a variation of applications.

These are 4-position rotary switches, fitted with a snap-action mechanism providing fast breaking and making between the contacts. Consequently, these units can be used both for direct and alternating current, even in circuits with high inductance. Numerous electrical combinations are possible, for simple applications (inverters or on-off switches) or for starting up complex motors.

The modular architecture of the basic components makes it possible to offer a wide range of variants, in the types of control and mounting. (Manual or remote control, flush-mounted or projecting or split mounting...)

Earth shoe enclosures are mounted on the traction vehicle underframe and are designed to ensure earth bonding of the vehicle during maintenance or repair. Switches in these applications can be rated up to 2,250A.

Equipment mounted on engine underframes has to survive some of the worst environmental conditions on the network. Sealing is paramount to protect the equipment inside any enclosure, as is the protection given to pushbutton actuators where they are to be made available.

Craig & Derricott is well known for producing equipment to high ingress protection standards and robust and reliable components. Nowhere does all this come together more importantly than in underframe equipment.

Engine Start Stop are specialunderframe control boxes comprising of selector switches and emergency stop units mounted in heavy duty deluge proof DMC enclosures or sheet steel enclosures for Class 14x & 15x fleets.

They offer high impact strength combined with excellent corrosion resistance. When inserted into the control system, they provide the local interface with which the engine can easily controlled.

It is the most convenient way of providing simple local control of the engine.
