Fun in February!!

What a fun time of year to live in “The Sweetheart City!” February in Loveland gives us a nice reprieve from the sometimes cold grip of winter. In 1947, Loveland’s postmaster Elmer Ivers created Loveland’s famous Valentine’s Day Remailing Program. 71 years later, 160,000 Valentines pass through the Loveland Post Office, each receiving that special stamp of love from The Sweetheart City. This year’s message reads:

“St. Valentine started the trend – A special day to reach out to friends.

Loveland, Colorado picked up the cue, Sending heart-felt messages to you.

Spreading friendship, love, and peace the world ‘round,

The Sweetheart City is a delightful town. Inspired by the beauty of nature, education, and the arts,

We’re happy to showcase our connecting hearts.”

Don’t forget about the wonderful Fire and Ice Festival, the largest Valentine’s Day Celebration in the country! The festival runs from February 9th – 11th with an awesome fireworks display at 9:00 pm on Friday and Saturday and at 7:00 pm on Sunday. See you there!

7 Deadly Sins of Sales You have heard about the 7 CLASSIC deadly sins but what the "7 Deadly Sins of

Sales"? Walk through some of the classic mistakes of salespeople and discover ideas for

correction! The end result? A more professional sales business and the happiest clients on

Earth! Don't miss Leigh's high energy and fun wit as she gets the day started at the Realtor

Summit!

Lunch Keynote Speaker: Terry Watson The YELP Effect (Pleasing the Empowered Customer) You no longer have customers. You now have Bloggers, online reviewers, and potential Social Media Vigilantes. One bad experience or a perceived unhappy outcome can encourage an online review that will repel potential business like a 2-day old baby diaper. A customer with a Smartphone or an Internet connection has the ability to actually affect your bottom line. Ironically, most agents are doing little if anything preemptive regarding reputation management and taking charge of the customer experience. When is the best time to handle a problem? Before you have one… Learn the simple things that have an enormous impact on customer satisfaction in a

laugh out loud way. You will come away learning some real life tools to help avoid problems, liabilities, missteps, etc. You will have the tools to make sure your clients come away with a great experience

LOCAL Larimer County REALTOR® Running for County Commission: Sean Dougherty, former Chair of the Fort Collins Board of REALTORS®, a member of the Larimer County Planning Commission, and current Chair of the Colorado Association of REALTORS® Legislative Policy Committee, has announced his decision to run for the Larimer County Board of Commissioners. The incumbent commissioner for District 1, Lew Gaiter, previously announced his candidacy for governor. In addition to Dougherty, two other candidates have announced to date: John Kefalas, who currently represents the residents of Senate District 14 in the General Assembly and Dan Sapienza, who works for the Health District of Larimer County. The Loveland-Berthoud Association of REALTORS® will interview county commissioner candidates this fall prior to the November election. REGION CDOT Secures Contract to Expand I-25: On January 4th CDOT announced it had finalized a contract with Kraemer/IHC to add one additional lane in each direction between Highway 14 in Fort Collins through the intersection with Highway 402 south of Loveland. The $248 million project is expected to take three years to complete. Work will begin this summer and should be finished in 2021. The project is the result of advocacy by the North I-25 Elected Officials Coalition and the Northern Colorado Legislative Alliance’s Fix North I-25 Business Alliance, in partnership with CDOT. It was paid for using a “patchwork” of funding, including a federal grant, state dollars and $55 million from local governments. As mentioned above, the new north and south lanes will be express or toll lanes. The purpose of the express lanes, according to CDOT, is to ensure trip reliability. Region 4 Executive Director Johnny Olson says drivers who pay to use the express lanes will reduce congestion on the highway for those who chose to drive in the two existing general-purpose lanes. In addition, the toll dollars raised will be used for further expansion and enhancements.

STATE Governor Sets Priorities: In his last State of the State speech term-limited Governor John Hickenlooper urged the legislature to work together and “giddy up” during the 2018 session. He argued the legislature should invest in the economic success of rural Colorado, increase education funding and put additional money towards transportation, broadband and water storage and delivery. However, the Governor didn’t specify how the legislature should pay for these projects, and the response from legislators depended on their party affiliation. Democrats gave the Governor multiple standing ovations while Republicans were less enthusiastic about the speech.
