Lourdes Soccer Club Annual Report 2014 - ABN 80016612139

President’s Report And there it goes - another year gone. This Club which is small in numbers (17 teams) but huge in ticker and tenacity that had four (4) of the competition teams make the Finals with three (3) taking out the grand Finals and one (1) going on into the Champion of Champions series. To the members of the Committee, I on behalf of all players, parents, guardians, coaches and managers thank you for your dedication, hard work and unity to make my job that much easier and viable into the future years. Lourdes Soccer Club Inc. has a noted working relationship with Football NSW, City of Blacktown Council, B.D.S.F.A and all of the other clubs within our district as a competitive but fair club which assists with the promotion for the youth of the area in sportsmanship, teamwork, skills, leadership and fairness - in the game and love of soccer. Remember mums & dads, the coaches are there to teach your children the skills of teamwork, leadership and the art of playing the game of soccer. The managers are there to assist the coach in all administrative matters for the team to function in the best manner possible. The parents and guardians of the players, it is your responsibility to supply the transport to and from the games, ensure fees and any match payments are made on a regular basis and on time. It is also your parental responsibility to ensure that your child is disciplined at home, before and after any match and to assist the coach & manager whilst the team is at training and games. Our constitution as well as other teams in this and other sports had to be reviewed and altered as per the Department of Fair Trading Regulations. We are constantly looking for and accepting volunteers from every parent to maintain our high standards and viability - you don't have to have any special skills except one (1) - Volunteer. Once again thank you for your faith and well wishes. Go Lourdes.

Lourdes Soccer Club Annual Report 2014 - ABN 80016612139

Secretary’s Report I would like to thank all our players, parents, sponsors and the rest of the committee for a great season with Lourdes this year. Without your commitment each week the club would not be as successful as it is. With 3 out of 7 competition teams winning their grand finals and our Youth team making semi finals, I believe our club has the skills, dedication and team commitment to mark our name against the bigger clubs in the association. Our non-competition sides show strong promise and we look forward to seeing them winning grand finals in the future. Having a side as young as U13’s go through to Champion of Champions is a great feat for the club and we are so proud of our U13 team for their great efforts this season. Although we are a small club, we re financially stable and we are very aware of sustaining the club in future years. We are working with Parks and Gardens and Blacktown Council to improve our grounds and make it a great facility. This year saw some challenges with our governing body the BDSFA, building a good relationship with the BDSFA is something we need to continue to do. I have put up my hand to sit on the Review of Football committee to help improve the game and it governance and hopefully this review will improve the issues in regard consistency, refereeing, penalties and female football that created some challenges this season. Many hands make light work and the larger the committee the lighter the load. Margaret works tirelessly to run the canteen and uniform shop for the club each week , which as a club we are extremely grateful for. This is our main source of income to the club and we appreciate the effort that is put in. If each team can contribute just a little bit each week to helping in the canteen the help would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy your summer. Sharlene Cormack Secretary

Treasurer’s Report

The financial year ending 30th September 2014 shows Lourdes Soccer Club’s bank balance at $36,246, with a further $10,547 in a term deposit. The club made a profit of 10,369.24 this year which was a very pleasing result. • Our overall income was down by about $3000 this year due to fewer registrations, leading to reduced membership fees and match fee income. The profit though was in proportion to last year as our registration fees and referee payments were also reduced. • Our canteen profits were much improved on last year due to fewer washed out rounds and by careful purchasing by our Canteen Manager • Our Term Deposit matured mid season with a resulting interest payment. We were also able to obtain a refund for withholding tax that had been collected. • Our expenses have decreased considerably from last year due mainly to fewer clothing purchases and less administrative expenses. This is now our Club’s fourth year of profit, showing that the committee are considerate of the financial management of the Club and how factors involved in running the club will reflect in the accounts. We look forward to another profitable season in 2015 and hopefully increased player numbers.

Coaching Co-Ordinators Report

2014 was a good year for Lourdes. Out of seven competitive teams, three made the grand final and all won, AA2’s, AA6’s and U13/1’s who reached the semi-finals of the Champion of Champions, which was a great achievement. We had ten non-competitive teams from U6 to U11 with good results all round and a great job done by all the coaches and managers. This end of the scale is the future of the club. In the mid 90’s Lourdes was down to twelve teams and we build up to 24 teams in a few years, now we are down to 17 teams and we need to build up again. While online rego is the modern trend, we are not picking up that many new players. I think something needs to be done about this. A better presence in Centro at rego time needs looking at, plus any ideas from the committee would be welcome. Sean Battersby Coaching Co-Ordinator

U6 Lions

This year our Under 6 team was coached by Sean Battersby and managed by Fiona Malone. We had a very enthusiastic bunch of soccer players who rarely missed a match. Over the course of the season our Lions made us all very proud by improving out of sight. We had Rhys Ayres who was our youngest player and learnt to kick the ball to his players and run back quickly to the half way. There was also Ethan Bassett who learnt to stay on the field and support his team. Then we had our great defender Benjamin Clark who ran back very quickly to defend our goal whenever we were under pressure. Thomas Kendall was a fantastic runner who kept up with the ball and improved on his passing. Erin Malone was one of our best goal scorers and enjoyed her time on the field. Luca Miller was also one of our best goal scorers and showed great listening skills. Lewis Savic was one of the most improved players of the season, scoring a few goals and showing good ball control and passing. All of our Under 6 Lions have a lot to be proud of. They had a lot of fun learning to play the World game. Fiona Malone

For most kids in the team, this was their first experience at club level football. It was the first time for the coach and manager as well. I am very thankful to the club and the BDSFA for their support during my rookie year as a coach. I enjoyed the challenge and I hope I have instilled the love of football in the kid’s hearts. During the season, I saw the team grow & develop as a cohesive unit. I hope that the players carry their love for the game to the next season and we get to see them again. I am looking forward to the new season, when we do this all over again. Raman Dua Manager It was a thrilling experience managing a team of players and parents for the first time. It was very rewarding to see the kids grow into a team and the smiles on their faces when the player of the week trophy was handed out. The training sessions provided an opportunity for the parents to interact and encourage the kids as well. Hoping to continue involvement in the sport and looking forward to the next year. Thanks. U9 Kangaroos

The Under 9 Kangaroos had a great 2014 season with lots of fun yet competitive games. The boys tried their hardest every game - rain or shine - and always managed to have a good time. On behalf of the parents, I'd like to congratulate Adam, Alex D. Alex T., CJ, Connor, Daniel, Jackson, Lachlan and Noah on being excellent sportsmen and making us proud! A special thank you to the dad's who kindly stepped into the role of referee every game. And, a big thank you to coach Andrew for coaching the boys throughout the season. Cheers Justyna

Grand Final 2014

It’s been a momentous year for the U13’s. After the disappointment of losing the 2013 Grand Final to a golden goal in extra time, it was great to see the boys bounce back and give it all they had. Four new players joined the team this year - Chan D., Deng, Josh, and Ngor – a welcome addition to our core team: Amer, Ashiteip, Chan Y., Harun, Isaiah, Joey, Marc, Simun, Theph and Tong. What did they achieve this year? • Goals scored: 148 – the highest number of goals scored in the entire Blacktown Association. Even our keeper Joey got in on the action, scoring a penalty goal in the semi-finals. • Goals conceded: 4 – the second best defensive record in the entire Blacktown Association. • Minor premiers (undefeated) – ending the season on 70 points. • Championship winners – winning the Grand Final 1-0.

The results make it look easy, but it’s a testament to the boys’ hard work and persistence at training each week. The team also had to deal with a few difficult challenges during the season and they did well to stay focused. They should be proud of what they achieved as a team. Grand Final 2014 Now the season continues with the Champion of Champions series, where the boys go head to head against all of the other Division 1 winners from around the State in a knockout competition. This is the first time a Lourdes team has entered the Champion of Champions, and at the time of writing, they have made it through to Round 3. They will meet some stiff competition in the weeks to come so we wish them well. We would like to extend a big thank you to the parents and spectators for supporting the boys throughout the season. Special thanks also to the Viray, Gallema & Zulbeari families for their help with washing the team jerseys. And remember boys, “How you train is how you play”. Blago, Ramazan & Coleen

I would like to commence by thanking all the players for the effort they put in through the season, the Manager, Keith Cormack, for all the time and effort he contributed especially when I was away for four weeks and the parents for supporting the boys at all the games. After being promoted from third division it was going to be a challenging season. It didn’t start well but after shuffling players around and getting more training sessions under the belt things improved. The boys grew as a team and I could see the understanding developing on the field. We went on to win two games and draw one and they should all be proud of their effort. Regardless of where the team finished on the ladder I believe they improved greatly over the year and this can be exemplified by the final game when we lost 2-1, after having a goal disallowed, to the team that finished with the Minor Premiership. Finally thank you to the Club for all the equipment, support and time invested into the teams over the year. Philip Timpanaro

What an epic way to end what was a fantastic season! From what can only be describe as a slow start our season really started to take shape once our confidence in each other improved. That confidence also started to show on the score sheet! Marcus 'the Toiler' was always a hungry target in front of goal and when he found his range was quite a marksmen. Steve 'The Little One' had an electric start to the year and we did struggle when he took a mid season transfer deal in Europe! Luckily he decided to rejoin us and it didn't take him long to return to his scoring ways! We had a midfield that could rival any in the comp with Daniel 'The Flash Cauchi' burning down one side and Riley 'The Spirited One' or Dan 'The Enforcer' Sammit pretending to cross but actually shooting from the other! But Josh 'The General' and Darren 'The Back Bone' Frost where two or our standouts all year. their knowledge of the game is second to none. A special mention must also go to Josh for all of his help organising the team in the first place, much appreciated by all. So after the strikers have missed again and a goal kick has flown over the midfielders head we end up at the brick wall of the back line we have! Dave 'The Gentle Man - I'll head it if I have to" Rooke who showed great strength and used his old head to make great tactical decision throughout the year. Mick 'The Mouse' was one of the hardest workers by far this season. With not a lot of previous games under his belt his hunger, speed and vision off the ball made him a vital player in our back line and one of the first picked every week. David 'El Capitan' used his expertise and determination not only in meeting the opposition head on as part of the strong back line but also led his own players to many victories by calling the play and providing words of encouragement. Phil 'The Rock' Sammit was exactly that - the rock in defence, a tradesman like worker that will never let you down and is always there not only when the ball is in play but also determined in attack! To Will 'The Flying Dutchman' who secured our continuation in the finals series with his winning goal in the semi-final - the most clean hit ball all match.

So once the strikers have missed the sitter, the mids have missed the header and the full backs have been nuttied it got to Eddy "Whoppa The Guardian of the goals - it's Harkness like darkness Harkness. To be honest everyone at the start of the year would worry but after a couple of games and a couple of great saves Whoppa just became part of our growing family. "his blonde tips would put the fear of god into any opponent and his humour could lighten any tense moments during a match. A special mention also has to go to the '#Walking Selfies#' who are of course Adam and Chris. Thanks so much for your efforts toward the back end of the season, we would have been lost without you. To our travelling band of regular supporters we thank you for the cheers, tears, compassion and frustration shared with us during the season. Your dedication gives us purpose and motivation. Last but not least to our manager Correne Astill and her handy sidekick Brad. From all of us boys we cannot thank you enough. Every week you go above and beyond for us and we are forever grateful. So once again boys - CONGRATULATIONS on a successful grand final winning year and hope to see you all again next year - up the blue and white!! PS - A super big thanks goes to Sally 'The Snake' for all your love and support!

Well boy’s I thought last year’s grand final win was a pretty good effort, but for me this year’s grand final win(3-2)was outstanding. Down (0-2)with about 30 minutes remaining ,to win was a super effort by you all and a win I will not forget a win, you as a team should be extremely proud of too come from 4th position for the 2nd year in a row against quality opposition was an incredible effort. There are a few guy’s in the team I would like to mention. I’d like to thank Jack O’Riely on behalf of the team for unselfishly de-registering because of a long term injury and allowing Ben Katte to play out the rest of the season thanks Jack. Pappy the super sub who scored his first goal of his career this year. Well done pap. Also to Pat pope who scored his first goal for the club on the biggest stage, the grand final. well done pat. To Matty P, you were hard done by in the grand final qualifier and I know it was hard for you to watch but in the end the team rewarded you with a grand final win. To Wendy and Ken, thanks again with your help throughout the year. In closing, I’d like to congratulate the 13/1s and AA/2 in winning there grand finals, also a big thank you to Sharlene and the rest of the committee your help and support throughout the year without you people it would not be possible Coach Pop
