Background Knowledge

Louis Braille was not born blind. He became blind after an accident. He studied at the National Institute for Blind Youth in Paris, France. While he was there he invented the Braille system of printing and writing for the blind. He was only 15 years old. Even though he had invented it, the school didn’t start teaching the system until 2 years after Louis’s death. Now all English speaking blind people use this system.
