Solving and Graphing Inequalities (6.1-6.2)

Greater Than: Arrow points to the right on a number line. Less Than: Arrow points to the left on a number line. Close Circle: ≤∨≥ Open Circle:¿∨¿

Step 1: Solve the inequality, just like your solving an equation, for the given variable (get the variable by itself).

Remember, if you divide or multiply by a negative, then you have to flip the inequality.

Step 2: Plot a point on the number line for the value that the variable was solved for. (Number on the opposite the side of the inequality sign of the variable).

Step 3: Draw your arrow on your number line.

If mouth of the inequality is facing the variable (x>¿), the arrow will go to the right, or greater than.

If mouth of the inequality is facing away from the variable (x<¿), the arrow will go to the left, or less than.
